| First Test Bulawayo 13 - 16 September 2005 Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat first.� India took the wickets of Taylor (13) and Masakadza (14) in the first hour but then was unable to make further breakthroughs.� By lunch, honours were even with Zimbabwe 2 for 75.� Again, India took the wickets of Duffin (56) and Ebrahim (24) in the first half of the session only to go wicketless during the second hour.� By tea, Zimbabwe was 4 for 167 with India gaining a slight advantage.� India managed to press home their advantage after tea with the wickets of Streak (27) and Coventry (2) falling in the space of 15 balls in the first hour.� However, India finally broke the pattern and dismissed Blignaut (4) in the second hour and by stumps, Zimbabwe was 7 for 265 with India more firmly holding the advantage. India dismissed Dabengwa (35) and Ewing (0) in consecutive balls of the second over of the second morning.� Mahwire (4) was bowled four overs later, leaving Taibu not out on 71, and Zimbabwe was all out for 279 runs.� Pathan was the best of the bowlers with 5 for 58 off 18.5 overs, his fourth five-wicket haul in Tests.� India began their reply and took the total to 88 before Sehwag (44) was bowled on the stroke of lunch.� Zimbabwe caught Gambhir (46) shortly after lunch at 2 for 98 before Dravid and Laxman combined to bat through to tea when the score was 2 for 207.� Zimbabwe managed to catch Dravid (77) mid way through the session before Laxman posted his eighth Test century.� By stumps, India was in complete control with the score 3 for 325 and a first innings lead of 46 runs. Zimbabwe slowed the scoring rate down on on the third morning.� Zimbabwe ran out Laxman (140) just before the drinks break and then Yuvraj Singh (12) and Karthik (1) were dismissed in the second hour.� India added only 71 runs in the session and was 6 for 396 with a lead of 117 runs at lunch.� Zimbabwe then struggled during the afternoon session.� India added a further 95 runs to their lead for the loss of only Pathan (52) and at tea, India was 7 for 491.� Ganguly posted his twelfth Test century after tea before being caught for 101 runs at 8 for 502.� India gained another 52 runs for their final two wickets of Kumble (17) and Harbhajan Singh (37) before being all out for 554 runs and a fist innings lead of 275 runs.� Mahwire was the most successful bowler with 4 for 92 off 25.3 overs.� Zimbabwe began the task of attempting to erase the deficit very badly and meekly surrendered the contest in the space of 17 overs.� Zimbabwe lost Taylor (4), Masakadza (2), Duffin (2), Ebrahim (1), Streak (0) to be 5 for 18 before later losing Coventry (24) to be 6 for 67 at stumps. India dismissed Blignaut (26) in the first hour of the fourth morning and then Taibu (52) and Blignaut (26) soon followed for Zimbabwe to be 9 for 138.� The Zimbabwe numbers ten and eleven then resisted India for another twelve overs, adding 47 runs for the final wicker before Ewing (34) was trapped in front and Zimbabwe was all out for 185 runs.� Pathan (4 for 53 off 12 overs) and Harbhajan Singh (4 for 59 off 15.5 overs) shared the bowling honours while India?s winning margin was an innings and 90 runs. Second Test Harare 20 - 22 September 2005 India won the toss and elected to field first.� The decision paid early dividends with Taylor (4) out in the first over.� Zimbabwe then took the total to 31 runs in the tenth over when Duffin (12), Taibu (0) and Ebrahim (14) were all out in the space of eight balls without adding to the total and the score was 4 for 31.� Zimbabwe again went through a short consolidation before Streak (14) was caught just before Zimbabwe went to lunch at 5 for 75 with India well on top.� Zimbabwe lost Masakadza (27) shortly after play resumed and then the tail managed to add a token amount of respectability to the score.� However, once India had dismissed Blignaut (13), Coventry (37), Mahwire (1) and Dabengwa (18), Zimbabwe was all out for 166 runs, having almost already conceded the match.� Pathan was the best of the bowlers with 7 for 59 off 15.2 overs, his best figures in Tests and his fifth five-wicket haul.� India faced eight overs before going to tea at no wicket for 43.� India lost the wicket of Shewag (44) during an evening session that saw them add 152 runs to their score.� By stumps, India was 1 for 195 with a lead of 34 runs. Zimbabwe fought back on the second morning, dismissing Gambhir (97), Laxman (8) and Ganguly (16) while India only managed to add 52 runs in the session.� At lunch, India was 4 for 247 with their lead now 86 runs.� Zimbabwe carried their momentum into the afternoon session when they picked up the wickets of Yuvraj Singh (25), Dravid (98), Karthik (1) and Kumble (8) while India only added a further 71 runs to be 8 for 318 at tea.� Zimbabwe then caught Pathan (32) and Zaheer Khan (2) to have India all out for 366 runs with Harbhajan Singh (14*) the not out batsman.�� Streak was the best of the bowlers with 6 for 73 off 32 overs, his seventh five-wicket haul in Tests.� Zimbabwe had just over an hour of play to begin erasing the 205 run deficit.� However, Zimbabwe began very poorly, losing Duffin (10), Taylor (4), Ebrahim (3) and Taibu (1) to be4 for 21 before ending the day at 4 for 39. India began the third morning well, dismissing Streak (8) and Coventry (25) to have Zimbabwe 6 for 85.� However, Masakadza and Blignaut then batted very well to take Zimbabwe to 6 for 190 at lunch, with Zimbabwe having added 151 runs in the session, to trail India by only 15 runs.� India reasserted control on the match soon after play resumed when the wicket of Masakadza (71) lead to a collapse with Dabengwa (0), and Mahwire (0) following in the space of nine bals for Zimbabwe to be 9 for 202.� Eventually, India dismissed Mwayenga (1) leaving Blignaut not out on 84 in an innings of 223 runs.� Pathan was again the best of the bowlers with 5 for 67 of 10 overs, his sixth five-wicket haul in Tests and his second ten-wicket match.� India was left with a victory target of only 19 runs, which they accomplished in the third over without losing a wicket to claim victory by ten wickets. |
