India won the toss and elected to field first after dampness on the pitch prevented any play before lunch.  When play began, India took a significant early advantage after dismissing Javed Omar (4), Nafis Iqbal (20), Rajin Saleh (0), Habibul Bashar (8) and Khaled Mashud (8) to have Bangladesh 5 for 50.  Bangladesh then staged a mini revival and batted through to be 5 for 105 at tea.  However, Bangladesh was unable to continue the fight back after tea, losing Manjural Islam Rana (24) and Mushfiqur Rahman (0) straight after play resumed to be 7 for 106.  Another Bangladesh mini revival saw the home side move to 171 before Mohammad Rafique (47) and Tapash Baisya (0), fell in consecutive deliveries for Bangladesh to be 9 for 171.  Mashrafe Mortaza (7) was the last man out, leaving Mohammad Ashraful stranded on 60 not out in an innings of 184 runs.  While Pathan finished with 5 for 45 off 16 overs, Kumble's dismissal of Mohammad Rafique took him past Kepil Dev's Indian record of 434 wickets to become India's greatest Test wicket taker.  Bad light prevented India beginning their reply.

India began their first innings on the second morning, but found conditions more difficult than expected.  Bangladesh dismissed Sehwag (13) and Dravid (0) to have India 2 for 24.  India then fought back, but lost Gambhir (35) at 3 for 68 before going to lunch at 3 for 102, only 82 runs in arrears.  India took control of the Test during the afternoon session despite losing Ganguly (71) at 4 for 232 on the stroke of tea.  Tendulkar had also raised his record equalling 34th Test century to draw level with Gavaskar and India was 4 for 232.  Bangladesh had a better evening session, dismissed Laxman (32), Karthik (25) and Pathan (5).  However, India continued to plunder the Bangladeshi bowling and by stumps, India was 7 for 348 with a probably match winning lead of 164 runs.

Bangladesh had early success on the third morning, dismissing Kumble (1) in the first over and Harbhajan Singh (8) soon afterwards to have India 9 for 393.  However, Bangladesh was unable to break the final partnership as Khan managed to hang around lo see Tendulkar past 200 runs.  At lunch, India was 9 for 492.  By the time Khan (75) finally fell, he had set the record highest innings for a number eleven in Tests, but he left Tendulkar stranded on 248 runs out of an innings total of 526 runs.  Bangladesh then began their second innings poorly, losing Javed Omar (4), Habibul Bashar (12), Rajin Saleh (0), Mohammad Ashraful (0) and Khaled Mashud (5) to be 5 for 36 by tea after only 15 overs.  During the evening session, Bangladesh managed to start scoring in earnest.  However, India dismissed Nafis Iqbal (54), Mushfiqur Rahman (6) and Mohammad Rafique (11) to have Bangladesh 8 for 170 at stumps, needing an unlikely 172 more runs to avoid an innings defeat.

India took 5.2 overs on the fourth morning to dismiss Tapash Baisya (29) and Manjural Islam Rana (69) for the addition of 32 runs.  Bangladesh was all out for 202 runs, handing India victory by an innings and 140 runs.  Pathan was again the best of the bowlers with 6 for 51 off 15 overs, giving him match figures of 11 for 96 off 31 overs.


Second Test

India won the toss and elected to bat first.� Bangladesh had early success when danger man Sehwag (10) was caught in the fifth over at 1 for 14.� However, that was Bangladesh's only bright spot before India punished the bowling for the rest of the session and went to lunch at 1 for 106.� During a wicketless afternoon session, Gambhir posted his maiden Test century in his fifth Test and India added another 131 runs to be 1 for 237 at tea.� Bangladesh eventually bowled Gambhir (139) at 2 for 273.� However, that was Bangladesh's only wicket for the session and, after Dravid posted his 18th Test century, India ended the day firmly in control at 2 for 334.

Bangladesh desperately needed wickets on the second morning to limit India's already large first innings.� Bangladesh had immediate success, dismissing Tendulkar (36) in the first over of the day and Dravid (160) eight overs later at 4 for 371.� Bangladesh then captured some momentum and dismissed Laxman (9), Karthik (11) and Pathan (4) to have India 7 for 413 at lunch.� However, Bangladesh was unable to finishes the job after lunch and too until tea to dismiss Kumble (23), Ganguly (88) and Harbhajan Singh (47).� India was all out for 540, while Mohammad Rafique was the best of the bowlers with 4 for 156 off 50 overs.� Bangladesh began their reply after tea and slowly to total to 48 before disaster struck.� India dismissed Javed Omar (10), Nafis Iqbal (31) and Mashrafe Mortaza (4) in the space of six runs to have Bangladesh 3 for 54 at stumps, still 288 runs short of the follow on target.

Bangladesh managed to slow their slide toward defeat on the third morning and batted through the first hour before Habibul Bashar (22) fell at 4 for 124.� Another long partnership followed as Mohammad Ashraful posted his second Test century.� India eventually made a double breakthrough, dismissing Aftab Ahmed (43) and Manjural Islam Rana (0) in consecutive overs to have Bangladesh 6 for 240.� Later in the session, India dismissed Khaled Mashud (22) before Bangladesh went to tea 7 for 312, only 29 runs short of avoiding the follow on target.� However, India struck hard straight after tea and dismissed Mohammad Rafique (4) and Talha Jubair (0) in consecutive balls.� Finally, only eight runs short of the relative safety of the follow on target, Nazmul Hossain (0) was run out leaving Mohammad Ashraful stranded not out on 158 runs in an innings of 333 runs.� Kumble was the best of the bowlers with 4 for 55 off 26 overs.� India immediately enforced the follow on and dismissed Nafis Iqbal (0) with the first ball of the second innings.� Javed Omar (6) and Aftab Ahmed (4) followed in the space for four runs to see Bangladesh 3 for 34.  After a short period of consolidation, Bangladesh took the total to 75 before losing Mohammad Rafique (22), Habibul Bashar (17), Manjural Islam Rana (0), Mohammad Ashraful (3), Khaled Mashud (0) and Mashrafe Mortaza (6) in the space of nine runs to be 9 for 84.  By stumps, Bangladesh was9 for 118 with an inevitable innings defeat due the next day.

India took four balls on the fourth morning to dismiss Talha Jubair (31) to have Bangladesh all out for 124 runs.  India claimed victory by an innings and 83 runs while Pathan was the best of the bowlers with 5 for 32 off 9 overs.
