India in Zimbabwe 2001
First Test 
Harare
7 - 11 June 2001

Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat first.  India dominated the first session dismissing Whittall (6) early on and then Ebrahim (12) and Carlisle (29) to have Zimbabwe 3 for 65 at lunch.  Zimbabwe was unable to consolidate during the afternoon as India dismissed Campbell (21), Grant Flower (5), Andy Flower (51), Blignaut (0) and Streak (16).  At tea, Zimbabwe was realing at 8 for 154 and memories of their performance against Bangladesh a few short weeks ago were ancient history.  India wrapped up the innings for a total of 173 runs shortly after tea.  Nehra was the best of the batsmen with 3 for 23 off 12 overs.  India began their reply by losing Ramesh (2) in the second over.  Zimbabwe was able to remove Laxman (28) and Das (30) and at stumps India was 3 for 83 but seemingly firmly in control of the Test.

Zimbabwe removed nightwatchman Srinath (1) with the first ball of the second morning's play and soon afterwards Ganguly (5) to have India 5 for 98.� Near the end of the session Zimbabwe removed Tendulkar (74) and at lunch India was 6 for 179 with a lead of 6 runs.� Zimbabwe struck early again catching Dravid (44) to have India 7 for 208.� However, they were unable to contain the tail enders and with Dighe (47) and Singh (66) India was 9 for 309 at tea and was able to get to 318 before losing their last wicket.� Streak (3 for 63 off 24 overs) and Watamba (3 for 94 off 25.5 overs) shared the bowling honours.� India struck three times before stumps, dismissing Ebrahim (0), Whittall (20) and Campbell (16) to have Zimbabwe 3 for 79 still 66 runs in arrears.

With India starting the third day in control of the Test, Zimbabwe lost nightwatchman Murphy (10) early and Carlisle (52) at lunch they were 5 for 143 needing only two more runs to erase the deficit.� The Flower brothers then batted through the afternoon session as Zimbabwe moved to 5 for 230 at tea and an 85 run lead.� India dismissed Andy Flower (83) soon after tea and Streak (14) but Zimbabwe survived until the early close due to bad light to be 7 for 303 with a lead of 158 runs.

India finished the Zimbabwe innings once grant Flower (71) was run out.� Zimbabwe made a total of 328 runs setting India a final innings victory target of 184 runs.� Srinath was the most successful bowler with 3 for 71 off 32.2 overs.� India was never in trouble as the Zimbabwe attach was without the injured Streak and Olonga.� Zimbabwe did manage to dismiss Ramesh (17) and Laxman (38) however Das (82*) and Tendulkar (36*) made the required runs to give India an eight wicket victory.

Second Test 
Bulawayo
15 - 18 June 2001

India won the toss and batted first.� Zimbabwe captured Badani (2) and Laxman (15) to have India 2 for 45 in the first hour.� India then batted through to lunch without further loss to be 2 for 85.� Zimbabwe then pressed their advantage in the afternoon session to send Tendulkar (20), Das (57), Ganguly (9) and Dighe (20) back to the pavilion to have India 6 for 166 at tea.� Zimbabwe finished the Indian innings for a total of 237 with Dravid not out of 68.� Streak was the best of the bowlers with 3 for 69 off 20 overs.� India then came out and fought their way back into the match taking the wickets of Whittall (0), Carlisle (3) and Campbell (8) in an hour's play before stumps to have Zimbabwe 3 for 31.

On the second morning Zimbabwe steadied and batted resisted India until the last half hour before the lunch break.� Andy Flower (45) and Ebrahim (49) were both dismissed by Harbhajan and Zimbabwe went to lunch at 5 for 113 still 124 in arrears.� Zimbabwe again batted for most of the afternoon session until Streak (40) fell within sight of the tea break and at tea Zimbabwe was 5 for 214 and looking for a modest first innings lead.� India captured the wickets of Blignaut (35) and Friend (15) in the evening session but were unable to prevent Zimbabwe moving past their total.� At stumps, Zimbabwe was 8 for 301 with a lead of 64 runs.

India quickly dismissed Murphy (17) on the third morning and then Grant Flower (86) finally fell to see Zimbabwe post a first innings of 315 and a lead of 78 runs.� Zimbabwe took the wickets of makeshift opener Dighe (4) and Laxman (20) and India went to lunch at 2 for 50.� India consolidated in the afternoon session and erased the deficit.  They made it through to tea without losing further wickets to be 2 for 117.  Zimbabwe struck back twice in the evening session to dismiss Tendulkar (69) and Dravid (26).  With the Test in the balance, India ended the day at 4 for 197 with a lead of 119 runs.

India needed only to consolidate their lead on the fourth morning to set a reasonable target for the Harbhajan 'The Turbanator' Singh to use the turning pitch on the final day to win them the series.� However, despite being a quick bowler short due to injury, Zimbabwe ran through the final six wickets for the addition of only 37 runs.� The fall of Ganguly (0) triggered the collapse and he was soon followed by top scorer Das (70), Agarkar (0) and Harbhajan (5) as India crashed to 8 for 207.� Srinath (3) and Nehra (0) helped Badani (16*) take the innings total to 234 and set Zimbabwe a target of 157 runs for victory.� Blignaut was the best of the bowlers with 5 for 74 off 31.5 overs.� Zimbabwe batted through to lunch to be 0 for 37.� India claimed the wickets of Whittall (10), Ebrahim (20) and Campbell (13) to be 3 for 71 and then batted through to tea to be 3 for 87 still needing another 71 runs to win.  India dismissed Grant Flower (3) straight after tea and Zimbabwe was 4 for 89 and showing signs of fragility.  Streak (8) was dismissed at 5 for 119 and then Blignaut (16) fell  at 6 for 144.  However, Carlisle (62*) and Andy Flower (8*) guided Zimbabwe home to a four wicket victory to level the series.  Nehra (2 for 45 off 13 overs) and Srinath (2 for 46 off 13 overs) shared the bowling honurs.
