Polynesian Cultural Center
photo

Thursday during our Hawaii trip we went by bus to the Polynesian Cultural Center.  We had been warned by people that it was big and hard to visit all the "islands" and see all the shows and demos.  Gilbert probably would have taken it as a challenge and scheduled it like a college student trying to get enough credit classes to graduate early, but had to travel at the speed of grandparents.  It wasn't too busy, maybe because of the midweek time, and the visitable area is smaller than most zoos or amusement parks, and because of the amphitheaters for the various demos there is more sit-down time.  Josiah also took a nap as well, battling an ear infection.  So with just slow random movements to the nearest available locations we probably saw half the demos and 3/4 of the visitable areas.  Rather than save the IMAX for an air-conditioning break in the middle, we watched the first show in an almost-empty theater as most of the guests were walking the park.  The "canoe pageant" is a better photo op due to the closeness and daylight than the nighttime show.  We had ordinary seats halfway up for that and it was adequate to see all the action, although after a meal and a day of walking even loud drums might not be enough to stop you from a relaxing siesta.

This photo is Gilbert and Andrew drumming in the Tonga area without impressing any of the regulars in the background.
