Saturday afternoon (Jan 26), Gilbert and the boys ran around the block (Gilbert had a lead and started up a side street by mistake, then trailed the rest of the way) with only a bit of old snow and ice on the sidewalk. Saturday night there was freezing rain and a short trip after supper found parking lots like skating rinks.
Sunday morning Josiah announced there was new snow. There were highway alerts on the radio saying to avoid driving and some churches had cancelled services so we decided to stay home. By late morning there was about 4" of accumulation so everyone went out to play even though it continued to fall. We could hear trucks moving snow on the main streets but we didn't leave ours, and did more snow collection than removal, trying to create large masses to slide on. Josiah tunneled into our largest one even though the snow was a bit flaky.
Monday there was no school and many employers announced that they would delay starts, including Gilbert's, so there was some more snow digging time under a blue sky. The photo is Andrew riding his bike near one of the mounds as a neighbor cat looks on. Tuesday was also clear but windy and there was no school again because of ice on the roads.
