Palermo, Sicilia
In this courtyard not far from the Cathedral, we visited the artist's studio where the ancient tradition  of terra cotta figures were being made.

All around the city I could hear the sounds of  my grandparents in the voices of the people we encountered.

On our visit ito Palermo in 2000 I chose to find accommodations in the area of the church of San Domenico. It is at the edge of the Vucciria, the oldest market in Palermo. My father told me his grandfather, Giovanni Citrolo, brought meat every morning by horse and wagon to sell at the old market in the late 1870's through the 1890's and until his  subsequent emigration from Sicily.

On my recent trip I stayed a week in a wonderful and  centrally located apartment located behind the church of the "Martorana" (my favorite church  in Palermo) We enjoyed everything about the place, especially meeting the charming Marika and her family.  Visit CASA MARIKA'S website
