My maternal grandfather escaped from the noise of a busy family and his American surroundings, by playing on his guitar or mandolin, the music of his Sicilian homeland. He didn't need an audience, but I enjoyed sitting by his side and tried to understand the lyrics in the Sicilian language.
My father learned to play the violin, as a boy, during the 1920's. His mother, a Sicilian immigrant, sent him for lessons in the"LittleItaly"section of NYC.
