Chapter Twenty Four

The men slowly moved out of her way and the group proceeded to the train station. They caught the first train into the city. Then deciding to walk to the hotel in order to get a mental map of the town. Port Royal seemed to be set up for the fulfillment of any vice one could think of. As they walked they saw casinos, restaurants, brothels and any other facility to service the clientele of Port Royal. The cit was loaded with announcements and advertising being broadcasted over speakers everywhere. There were so many different ones at the same time that they could not get them all straight. It sounded more like white noise to them.

They made their way to the hotel and gave the password at the front desk. The clerk said,

"Just a minute, I will get the manager for you."

The manager came out and they finished the password exchange. He said,

"You have been expected and I was asked to give you what help I could." Denise thanked him and they headed up to their suite. Once there Denise asked,

"How much do you know?"

"Not much, just that your mission is of the highest priority."

"We need to know about a specific syndicate operation. This one would have to do with cybernetics. Do you know of anything like that?"

He thought for a second or two before replying,

"I have not heard of anything like that, but something is going on with the Syndicate. They have been very superior of late, almost like they know no one can touch them."

"How can be find out more about their operations?"

"I would suggest going to the Silver Comet. That is the Syndicates Head Quarters. You may over hear something, at the least you can scout the place out."

"All right. We will try that. Thanks."

The manager then left and they began to unpack.

When everyone was finished they sat down in the lounge. Denise said,

"Are next stop is the Silver Comet Casino and Hotel. I think we should go tonight and find out all that we can."

Linda looked around the group.

"We cannot go in there looking like this." Everyone looked around, not knowing what she was talking about. Pogo spoke up,

"She is right. The Silver Comet is the most exclusive place on Penates. We have to look the part."

"I think we should go down to the clothing shops and get some formal attire," replied Linda.

Some of them looked uncomfortable with this idea, but all realized it was necessary. Linda said,

"All right. I will take the girls and you Pogo take the boys."

He smiled at the idea of that.

Down in the lobby the groups split up. Linda, Denise and Christine headed off in one direction and in no time Linda found the most exclusive woman's ware outlet. Walking into the store they were quite the sight. They still had on their comfortable pirate clothing. They were gaudy looking as well as baggy to allow a person to be able to fight in them. They also still had on their weapons. With all of this showing, they did not look very feminine.

A woman, whom they all thought had a pig nose since all they could see were her nostrils, came over to them.

"I am sorry ladies, but I don't think you want this store." This kind of snobbery always got Linda's back up. She shot back,

"If you are the only one who works here, then you are right." She noticed a young girl stocking some shelves and said,

"We will have that young lady serve us and she will make our commission."

With that, the woman's nose seemed to go even higher into the air. The three women walked over to the girl and Linda said,

"You work here, correct?" The young girl looked up at the three women and stammered,

"Yes."

"Good. We would like you to serve us."

The girl stood and replied,

"But I am just a fashion student."

"Do you know fashion?" Asked Linda.

"Yes," she replied.

"Do you think we should be some place else?"

"No. If you knew enough to come here then you probably know what it costs."

"Good," said Linda. "We need three formal outfits for tonight. Is that a problem?"

The girl looked at her and said,

"Honestly, it will depend on what you want."

"Good. Show us what you think will work for us."

The young girl lead them off to the back of the store and said,

"These two racks were designed by a fellow student. We could have them ready for you in less than an hour."

Linda looked them over and saw that they were very good. She said,

"Are these all originals? I don't want to be wearing the same outfit as someone else."

"Oh yes," she replied. "They were in a show last night and I won." Linda picked up on the change of tense.

"So these are your fashions then."

The young girl blushed and nodded yes. Linda said,

"I can see why you won. These are all very good."

The girl smiled and the three women could see the pride pouring out of her.

They then went to work getting an outfit right for each of them. After an hour and a half they were all ready. Linda had a full length red dress with no back and a low cut front. The bottom was long and straight with a thigh high slit. She finished it off with a gossamer thin red shawl. Denise wore a white lace, high collared dress with a full skirt. She looked like a southern belle from the old earth days. Then there was Christine. She wore a sky blue kimono that was embroidered with delicate white flowers. The three of them looked like a million dollars. As they walked out, Linda went over to the snotty sales woman.

"You work on commission. Too bad." Then they made their way back to the hotel.

The men on the other hand walked into a shop and were swarmed by sales help. They all got traditional formal ware for their species. Connor got himself a tuxedo with a very traditional cut to it. Pogo got a formal outfit of the Fraal and Yulp just got a nice outfit since the T'sa did not have a traditional formal outfit. They were out of there in half an hour.
