Denise made her way back to Auxiliary Control and got onto the Comm Link. She called up to the Warbird and got Huntly. When they were face to face and no one else could over hear them, Denise told her what was going on. When she was finished Huntly said,
"I can not take everyone off the planet even if I could get to you."Denise said,
"Is there any other ships around that might be able to help, we only have about twenty hours left."Huntly hesitated for a second then said,
"My sensors are tracking a ship that might be able to help but it looks
to big for atmosphere functioning, but maybe we can use the Warbird as
a shuttle. I will contact them and get back to you." Huntly then switched
off the Comm Link.
Turning around to yell for Susan she was startled to find him standing there with his big smile. She just shook her head and said,
"Did you hear everything?"
He nodded yes and so she continued,
"Well get me Captain Beighurin on the Comm."
He reached over and pushed a button on her consul and there was Beighurin's face. He said,
"Did you have any luck finding the Isopetet woman?" Huntly answered,
"Yes but we have a serious problem here. Are you finished with your other situation?"
"Yes it turned out to be a wild goose chase. You would not know anything about that now would you?"
Putting on her most innocent face - which was a dead give away that she knew all about it - she said,
"Of course not Captain Beighurin. Then she went on to explain the situation on Dione. When she was done Captain Beighurin said,
"What kind of a trick is this Huntly? It is impossible to move an object the size of Dione to Drive Space."
"I don't know Beighurin. These people are very technically advanced. Their main planetary defense seems to convert energy in a specific section of the ship then extract it somehow. That is more advanced than anything I have heard about, how about you?" He sighed and then nodded his agreement.
"I will be there in about 5 hours. Will that give us enough time to evacuate the planet?"
"I don't know. It will depend if we are allowed to land or not. I will try to communicate with the Gepz while I wait for you. If they let us land I will go in and get the first load. If not you might have to figure out how to get us all off the planet." He smiled and she noticed a small twinkle in his eyes. He said,
"If anyone can do it, it would be you. Good luck. Birmingham out." With that the screen went blank. She turned again and found an even bigger smile on Suran's face.
"What is that look for?"
"He likes you," said Suran. She looked at him as if he were crazy and said so.
"Get to the sensor station and let's try and find that colony and try and communicate with it."
He walked out and she thought about what he had said and what she had seen, but could not accept his conclusion. She monitored Suran's progress with the sensors and saw the readings that gave away the Colonies location a second before he did. They both agreed it must be there and so she ordered a stationary orbit over that spot at maximum distance. Then she used a tight beam Comm link and called the Gepz. She did not expect them to answer, so she just began explaining the evacuation plan to them and hoped that the would let it proceed. She was surprised when a one word answer came through,
"Accepted."
She looked at Suran with a look of wonderment and said,
"Oh my God. They answered us." Then she paused for almost a full minute, just staring into space.
"Let's get ready to enter the atmosphere."
Suran ran off to his station and started making the necessary arrangements
for them to come down near the other ship. This took him a couple of minutes
and he had to fight for a decent path. He buzzed Huntly that he was ready;
and they took the ship into the atmosphere.
