Chapter Forty Three

Graham, Christine and Martine had moved up to one of the bio labs. They had almost finished growing the plant culture that was needed for the photo reactor, as they were calling it. When Yalp called them. He said,

"You can put a hold on growing the goo. It seems the plan has changed. We are going to destroy the other computer complex." Graham looked at the other two and then said,

"What did they find? A secret stash of nuclear weapons?"

"Almost. They found a couple of functional defense satellites. They are going to turn them around."

"This place is just full of wonders. We would like to finish this though. We are intrigued to see if it works. Aren't you?"

"Yes, but we figured we would tell you what is going on. How long until you are finished?"

"We should be done in about two hours. How about you?"

"Our part is finished."

"We will bring the 'goo' as you called it, down when it is finished."

They then went back to work and finished growing their goo. It took just what Graham had said. Transporting it to the basement was more of a problem but they eventually found a large anti-gravity cart and used that. Putting all the components together proved to be the easiest part of the whole thing. When it was all together it looked like the one they had seen in the hologram. Minus the chemical reaction in the crystal chambers on top. It was now up to Aleerin to activate the reactor. Aleerin moved to the reactor and got down on his knees at the side of it. He put his hand on the side at the location Vergus had shown him. He then let his fiber optics work there way into the reactor. It took longer than it would have with typical stellar ring technology but he eventually found the right pathway. The extreme concentration showed on his face as his consciousness moved from one area of the reactors controls to another. Finally as the perspiration was dripping from his nose he found the start up protocols.

He started up the reactor and at once felt it's power. He was not prepared for the serge and it knocked him back against the opposite wall. He hit the wall and slid down it still with the shakes from all the electricity that had gone through his body. The rest of the group knew how dangerous it was for a Mechalus to get a shock like that, as they have small computer components built into them. If the components short out the Mechalus could die. Christine ran to the young Mechalus and checked him out, while asking,

"Are you alright?" Aleerin looked up at Christine and nodded his head yes. She took some readings and they were all normal for a Mechalus, but she was still worried.
