Chapter Forty One

Yalp, Graham, Linda, Aleerin, Martine and Christine were all around the image of Vergus. Denise and the others had just left so they had not much time. Yalp said,

"Vergus, what kind of information do you have on power systems?"

"Well, it was not my specialty as a scientist, but I do have access to a data bank that holds all the information of our time." He smiled as he looked at Yalp and Yalp smiled back. Another hologram appeared beside Vergus. It was some sort of viewing screen. He started to show them power systems. Yalp said,

"Do all these systems put out enough power to keep you active?"

"No."

"Can we make these systems in time?"

"Not all of them," said Vergus.

"OK, narrow it down using those two parameters." The view screen now had three names on it. The first was a cold fusion reactor. Yalp said,

"What about cold fusion?"

"Well, from what I have found out about your technology level it is a more advanced than anything you have. It will produce enough power but the only problem is, it could be made in ab out 24 of your hours, but that is with our technology level. Even if I told you how to do it, I don't think we could get it done in time. I would have to walk you through using the equipment as well as making the reactor." He paused then and looked at Yalp. Yalp's face did not hide his disappointment. Vergus smiled and said,

"Nothing against you my little lizard friend. It would give me the greatest pleasure to tell you all about our engineering techniques; but right now would not be a good time." Graham said,

"What about this one? It looks from its name that it gets power from a biological process called photosynthesis. How is that possible?"

"Do you understand how plants do it?" asked Vergus. Graham looked at the image and said,

"I am a research biologist. I was working on a water world trying to create a new biological food source. So I know about different biological processes and one of those is photosynthesis. I think that qualifies me to find out more about this process for producing energy."

"Well, it may be the best chance I have." At this moment Yalp interrupted and said,

"What about the third method? What is it?"

"Well, the third one is a geothermal method." Yalp looked at Vergus and said,

"Are you crazy? First, we could not get to the molten core in time and second the reality of geothermal energy is that it has a tendency to cause planets to explode." Vergus smiled and almost laughed before saying,

"I know a few techniques that will prevent the problems you have." Yalp said,

"Will you tell me, how we could possibly dig so deep, so quickly?"

"We would use a laser drill. That should get us to the core in less than 12 hours, but I do not think the core of this planet is as warm as it once was. This could mean it is lower down and not as good an energy producer. I my opinion, I do not think this would be the best option. Another thing you would want to consider is one of the controlling agents is a very high carbon dioxide content in the environment." Yalp looked at Vergus and said,

"You think we could have done this in about twenty four hours?" Vergus smiled and said,

"My little friend, we were about ten thousand years worth of research and development ahead of you. We could do things with our minds that would have made us seem God like to some of your most faithful. These abilities that you may develop in the next ten thousand years, but our technology was also ahead of you. Can you imagine, if you have accomplished such amazing things in 2500 years, imagine what you could accomplish in an additional 10,000?" Yalp was silent for a long time. Then he spoke.

"OK. Let's get this planet that produces power growing." They all smiled as Vergus created a huge hologram of the photo synthetic power plant. It looked like a coffin sized metal box. The box seemed to be made of a red and green marble. It was so smooth that looked to be unnatural and almost seemed to be breathing - or maybe it had a heart beat. Then, on top of the boxes there were 3 clear crystal cylinders. These were closed on top and looked like upside down test tubes. These tubes seemed to be full of a thick green liquid and there was some sort of bubbled gas rising through it. The tubes were about 2 meters in height and there were rubber tubes running from the top of one to another until they were all connected." Vergus said,

"We will break the work down into parts. Yalp, Martine and Aleerin, you will work on the mechanical and control systems. Graham and Christine should work on the biological part." He then manifested an information pad in each of Yalp and Graham's hands.

"Those have all the instructions and a direct link to me. If everything goes as planned, you could have everything done in about 10 hours." The group looked at each other and thought 'amazing'. Then a thought came to Yalp.

"How much power do you need?" Vergus looked at him and chuckled while he answered.

"My little friend, you are inquisitive. The power requirements for this type of computer is equal to the output of a normal size yellow star." The group was stunned into silence.
