Chapter Forty Five
Denise ran into the room followed by Pogo, Connor and the two Cyborgs. Everyone dove for their guns, and Denise yelled,
"No!"She came to a stop by Vergus's hologram and continued on, "The Cyborgs seemed to be out of the Emperors Grackless's control, these to even no who they where." The two Cyborgs put there guns down and came over and joined the rest of the group. Grady said,
"Hello, I am Captain Grady Regus, from the trade ship Bodwicks. We are out of Bluefalls and were dropping a lode of machine parts on Penates. As I told your friends here we were at the Silver Comet Casino, then we found ourselves here, with all these cybernetics." Then pointing to his friend he said,
"And this is my engineer Finster." Denise made the introductions to the rest of the group and then asked,
"So who saved our butt, you Yalp, or you Aleerin?" They both looked at her a little stunned and Yalp said,
"What are you talking about?"
"Didn't you take control of one of the other satellites?"
"No," then Vergus's image flashed into existence. He turned to Denise and said,
"That was me. When I got the added power from the Photo synthesis power generator I could do more , and one of those things was get into planetary defense." Denise smiled and said,
"Well thanks, you saved our lives."
Denise turned to everyone else and said,
"I think we got him, especially because the cyborgs seem to be free of any influence from the Emperor. Have you turned up anything Vergus?" Before Vergus could answer Denise turned to Christine and said,
"Maybe you could take them upstairs and see if you can get the mind control devices out of their heads." Christine nodded and lead the two Cyborgs out of the room. Denise waited for a moment then turned to Pogo.
"Go with them and make sure they are what they say, and they stay that way." He nodded and walked out.
She then turned to Vergus and said,
"So were you monitoring Emperor Grackless when the attack happened?"
"Yes and no. I could not monitor every possible way out. If he had a place to go he may have gotten without my knewledge."
"Great," said Connor, "How will we ever know?"
"I will search the whole planetary grid and see if I can find him."
"Ok, you start that and we will go and check his complex and see if anything is left," said Denise.
She then looked at the rest of the group and said,
"Who wants to go and see if anything is left of the Emperor?"Connor nodded that he would go, while the rest stood around, so Denise said,
"Lets go and see," and the two of them walked out.
After Denise had left Yalp turned to Vergus and said,
"We would like to set up some sort of communications between our world and you. It will keep you in touch with us and you will know what is going on." The hologram that was Vergus looked at him and said,
"There is a method to communicate through the wormhole generator. It should be set up as it is part of the equipment." He then produced another hologram to show Yalp how to set it up. Yalp looked at it but could not figure out the stone technology. It was all just to alien to him and his way of thinking. Yalp was understandably upset and Vergus could see this so he asked,
"What is the problem?" Yalp looked a little sheepish if a Lizard could look sheepish and said,
"I just can not understand the rock technology."
"I can help with that, we have what you would call knowledge implanting programs. It will give you all the knowledge of the rock technology as if you had spent years memorizing it." Yalp looked at him and said,
"I do not like people playing with my brain so are you sure this is going to work?"
"Yes, no problem, it was a short cut used to get the information to as many people who needed it as quickly as possible." Yalp looked at Vergus, there was concern on his face. He thought for a moment then asked,
"Is there any danger?"
"I don't think so, but just to make you feel better we can scan you and see if you are compatible with this process." If lizards could have sweat, he would have been soaked. He said,
"Ok, do your scan and then we can take it from there." A helmet then materialized in Vergus's hand and he handed it to Yalp, saying,
"Put it on, the scan will only take a moment or two." Yalp put on the helmet and stood there. He nodded to Vergus and stood there waiting. Yalp's mind went blank, he did not know how long he had stood there for he had no time reference or any other reference for that matter. Then all of a sudden the world was back. He thought the whole thing was really weird. The little lizard looked around and everything looked the same as the last time he remembered being there.Yalp looked at Vergus and asked,
"So how did the scan go?"
"I am sorry to tell you this but there is a chance you could be damaged in the process."
"Damaged, how?"
"Well your brain could be fried, or it could just be wiped clean."
"Well that does not sound so bad, is there a chance I could die?"
"Well yes."
"And how big are these chances anyway?"
"Well the brain wipe is the highest, and it is at .000006 %." At hearing this Yalp stared to laugh, he laughed so hard that tears came dome his face. When he got himself back under control he said,
"Vergus, where I come from I do not have odds that good that I will live another day." Vergus looked at him and said,
"You mean people on your planet actually die for other reasons then old age?"
"Why yes as a matter of fact people rarely live to old age," He then thought about his life and said,
"Well at least not people in my profession." The computer generated hologram looked at him and it almost looked as if it was sad. Then it said,
"Your life is very strange my little friend." Yalp laughed for a moment then getting serious he said,
"All right lets get on with it. The chance to understand your technology out weighs anything else in my mind. Christine came back at that moment and said,
"What's going on?" Graham answered,
"It is amazing it seems Vergus can transfer knowledge right into our heads." Yalp then said,
"I am going to try it first." Then Vergus said,
"It will take about ten of your minutes, and to the rest of you he will appear frozen in time. Please do not touch or remove the helmet before he is finished or he could be finished." Yalp just stood there and said,
"Jokes at a time like this,"
"Yes I have noticed that Humans and T'sa use humor to relieve the stress of many situations." Yalp shook his head. Then he put on the helmet and was at once frozen. He looked like a statue, they could not even see his chest moving up and down. Christine watched the time closely, she thought, 'This can not be good.' She could not remember how long a T'sa could go with out air. When five minutes had gone by she said,
"Vergus can I monitor his life signs?"
"Yes, but you wont find any. He is in what you might call suspended animation." Christine moved to take some readings and found everyone of them read as if he were dead. She then asked,
"How does this process work?"
"It imprints right on the neurons of the brain." Christine was amazed and said,
"Could you do this for me also with your medical knowledge?" Before he could answer Yalp came to and Christine moved to him. She took some more readings and asked,
"How do you feel?"
"I am fine," and her readings confirmed it.
"I now understand it all, it is so simple." She looked at him and said,
"Does it hurt or anything?" He just smiled and laughed at her.
"Ok then I am next, or I will never get those implants out of those
two upstairs.".
