Denise thought, 'we need to make a show of good faith, but how do we show an alien race that we do not mean them any harm, even if we could.' She said,
"Martine, since you have been on the surface have you tried to contact the base or any of the species below?"
"No, I am just now well enough to try."
"Ok, why don't you, me and Dr. Winegarden go up on deck and see if we can contact them. Maybe we can convince them that we are not a threat." The three of them then moved up onto the deck of the Empress.
"Ok, what do you need from us?"
"Nothing really, just keep me from being disturbed." Martine then sat down in a cross legged meditative position and closed her eyes. She reached out with her mind looking for any signs of the sentient's. Her mind went out in bigger and bigger circles, first she found Graham and Denise, then it was the rest of the people on the ship. Her mind moved out more and more and more, skipping over all the crew and passengers. Reaching out more and more with her mind, she found animal of all kinds from the smallest multi-celled creatures to another Levian, but nothing above animal intelligence. She was almost at the point of exhaustion when she touched a very strange mind.
It was an intelligent beyond her comprehension and did not seem, at least, unnerved by the mind contract. The two minds started to communicate and Martine found it could send information much faster than she could understand it. She told it to slow down and it did. The creature was a young male of a species called the Gepz. The Gepz were a species of pacifists, and also xerophytes. This group of Gepz were explorers and they travel from solar system to solar system monitoring other species and their ways. When the young Gepz thought about travel, Martine got an image of the whole planet moving through Jump Space. The thought conversation continued and Martine asked when they could leave. The Gepz told her not until they were ready to leave. This caused Martine to get a little anxious and the Gepz noticed it in her thoughts. He let her know that they were planning to leave within the next 24 standard hours. At this point Martine thanked him and broke contact. She had not realized it but she had been in her trance for about six hours. When the contact was broken she collapsed into an almost comma like state. Denise and Graham had been with her through the whole time and where caught off guard when she collapsed. They quickly checked to see if she was still alive, then they took her to the Empress's Sickbay.
As they carried her in Christine came over and said,
"What happened?" Denise answered,
"We are not sure, she is a Mindwalker and has been trying to contact the aliens on this planet. She has been in a trance like state for about six hours then she just collapsed." Christine motioned for them to put her on a bed and said,
"She is probably just exhausted but I will check her out any ways." Then she quickly started doing some tests on her. After a couple of minutes she said,
"Martine will be fine, she just needs some rest. Come back in an hour and she should be awake." The couple left the Sickbay and went to Auxiliary Control. There Denise got up dated by Yalp, but it was not very promising. He was no further ahead then when they had left to go up on deck.
After about an hour and a half Denise got a call from Christine.
"You had better get down here ASAP," then she signed off. When Denise walked in she saw Martine sitting up in bed trying to get out, but Christine was holding her down. Denise hurried over and helped Christine get Martine back into bed. Martine looked up and saw Denise and said,
"Oh thank the heavens you are here. We do not have much time." Denise looked at her with a confused look and said,
"Slow down you are not making any sense." Martine took a deep breath and calmed herself. Then she started over again.
"This planet is not a planet but a interstellar space ship and it is going to Starfall in less then twenty four hours. We have to get off or we could end up another 1000 light years away from home. You see I made contact, this is a planet that the Gepz have made into a ship. They use it to explore the universe without been found out, as they do not want contact with any other species. They picked the planet to be of interest to other species but not to the point of colonization. It was actually very ingenious, but I do not want to stay and see it in action," she then looked around the group to see if they where understanding what she had just told them.
Denise's mind was a whirl wind of activity, she was going over her options, but it did not look good. Huntly's ship could not take them all, they needed another ship and they needed it now. She looked down at Martine on the bed and said,
"Can you contact them again?" Martine frowned and said,
"No I am to exhausted. I would not be able to get out far enough." Denise nodded that she understood, and said,
"I have to go and make preparation. I am glad you are all right and
don't worry we have other options."
