The two women where sitting at a nice little table in
the corner of the restaurant. The place was not very busy as lunch was over and
the dinner hour was still an hour or so off. The two women were young and
attractive; one was a blonde while the other was a brunet. The blond said,
“Marie I do not
know what to do. All the fun and spontaneity has gone out of our relationship.”
“Well Christine
half of the problem is yours you know. You work so much at the hospital and on
top of that, your hours are not what you could call normal. I am not blaming
you or Gary, but if your relationship is becoming dull do something about it.”
“You are right,
why should I expect anything from him if I have not done anything myself.”
“Exactly, so
what are you going to do.”
“I don’t know,
but I will think of something.” The two women finished lunch and Christine
thought, ‘what should I do?’
Christine felt excited about her renewed feelings
about her relationship. One of the things she loved about Gary was that he
always seemed so interested in anything she had wanted to do. An idea occurred
to her and when she got home, she went right to the phone. Phoning a ticket
agent to see what was happening in the next couple of weeks. Knowing his tastes
in music as soon as she heard that Fleetwood Mac was coming to town, she knew
that would be the perfect outing for them. She ordered two tickets for the
Thursday night show. Thinking, she needed something for after the concert, it
hit her. The perfect thing would be a horse drawn carriage ride with a little
wine and cheese. She got on the phone again and eventually got through to a
company that had just what she wanted. Christine was very pleased with herself and thought that should get him thinking.
One more thing she thought, I have to make sure he is
not working that night. That would really spoil the whole thing. She picked up
the phone and called his work. She did not ask for him but instead asked for
his boss. He eventually answered and Christine got right to the point because
she knew he was busy. She said,
“I know this is
unusual and that Gary usually works on Thursday night, but could he have two
Thursdays from now off?”
“Yes of course
he has every Thursday off, both day and night.”
“Oh he does. I
guess I was mistaken, thank you.” She then hung up the phone.
She thought about that for awhile, ‘I was not mistaken, Gary told me he was working every Thursday night.’
Christine was a little afraid but being an intelligent girl, she did not let
her imagination run away with her. After all, there could be a million
explanations for what he could be doing that he would not want to tell her
about. She decided not to confront him about it, but to find out what he was
doing. She thought the best thing to do would be to follow him the following
Thursday.
She did not let on that she suspected anything, which
was fairly easy since she hardly saw him that week. Thursday finally came and
he left for work. She got into her car and followed him,
she thought this is not as easy as they make it look on all those cop shows.
She almost lost him a couple of time but luck was on her side and she always
found him again. He eventually led her to a motel down on Kingston road. It
looked like a nice little place and was called the Snooze Motel. She was still
giving him the benefit of the doubt until she saw him doing something wrong
with her own eyes. At that moment she saw a woman walk into the room, Christine
was shocked. How could he do this to her? She got out of her car and walked up
to the room. She had thought their relationship was in trouble, but this was
unfathomable. How could he do this? Leaving her would not have hurt so much?
She reached the door and was about to walk in, when she thought, I could be
wrong. She looked through the window and it all hit home in that spilt second.
The two of them were in a long and passionate kiss. There it was all the proof
she needed. The two of them started to undress each other, Christine turned she
could not look anymore.
How could she have been so blind? Her emotions were
tossed between walking in there and killing them both or maybe just him, to
going home and forgetting about it. No she could not forget about this but
neither could she kill anyone physically. Then a thought came to her and a
smile crossed her face, ‘since it was over with, why not get something out
of it.” An idea was forming in her mind as she walked got back into her
car. She thought, ‘enjoy yourself because when I am done with you, you will
not even be able to afford this place.’
She went home and pretended that she did not know
anything. It had taken her awhile to get her emotions under control, but Gary
would not know anything from her. They were sitting in the living room and she
said,
“How was work?”
“Not bad.”
“With all those
extra hours you are putting in I think we should spruce this place up a bit.
After all it is your escape from all that work.”
“That’s a great
idea what did you have in mind?”
“Oh I don’t
know maybe a new chair for you, for when you come home after those hard nights
at work. I might even paint the place.”
“It sounds
great.”
“Ok, why don’t
you give me your credit card for a couple of days. I
will shop around and see what I can find, don’t worry I know what we can
afford.” He was trapped and she knew it. She had planned this out, argument and
counter argument. He also knew, because he handed her his card and said,
“Don’t forget
we are not made of money.”
“Yes dear,” she
said in a very sarcastic voice, but she took his card that should have at least
four thousand dollars worth of credit on it.
The next day Christine started her revenge. She hired
movers to come and get her possessions out of the apartment and paid for it
with the credit card. Then she thought, ‘if I am going to get back into the
world of dating I need to get ’into shape. There was a fitness club
just around the corner from her work, so she went in there and got herself a
membership and put it on the credit card. The last thing she thought was she
would need some new clothes, so she went clothes shopping. When she was at the
mall she also ordered a chair that was the ugliest thing she could find. She
arranged to have it delivered the same day she was leaving. There she thought
that should do it after all I do not what him to have enough of a reason to
come after her.
She planed her escape for the following Wednesday,
that way she could go out on Thursday and enjoy the concert. She slowly packed
up all her stuff and hind it away with out him knowing. When Wednesday arrived,
Gary left. The moving men showed up about twenty minutes later. Everything was
loaded up and she was out of there in less then an hour. Just as she was about
to leave the chair showed up. She had it put into the middle of the living room
and gave the delivery guy a tip. She then put a note that read;
I hope you enjoy your chair, because
your Little Motel Friend will probably be gone when she finds out you are
broke!
Then she walked out to her car and drove away.
