To day I went and got a
couple of journal books for our trip. I have never done this before but thought
it might be interesting. This is after all my first trip to Mexico, a country who’s history I have always been deeply interested in. I
mean who would not be fascinated by the ancient Mayan’s civilization. Those
beautiful Temple Pyramids, how could you not be amazed, and then there are
those beautiful statues and carvings.
I got a journal book for
Susan and Mike also as I think they are just as excited about visiting the
Mayan ruins as I am. She was talking last night in the pub about how advanced
the ancient Mayan’s astrological skills were. She was very excited when she
talked about their calendar and how they could
predict astrological events. It was actually a lot of fun watching her, she got
so excited. It was very much like when I herd about my theoretical find of the
Temples in the highlands. Though I am still confused as why there was only a
Temple and no surrounding buildings could be found. It is the only location to
have a Pyramid to a God that no one has really heard anything about. Well,
Journal I will not use up a lot of space now, who knows what I am going to want
to write about later. I hope I will find some interesting things.
Jan. 14, 2000
Went out to the pub next
door to work last night, and gave Susan her Journal book. I told her what it
was all about and she said,
“That sounds like a great idea. I would love to keep a record of
what we see and find.” We then talked a little more about what we should take
with us and what we thought we might need. Are lists did not vary to much except when it came to our individual interests. I
am more interested in the anthropology aspects of the sites while she is
interested in their astronomy.
When I got home I went onto
the inter net and did some research into the Mayan civilization. It was
fascinating the amount of information, but looking at it I found that a lot of
it was very
interpretation. I had not really realized how much about the
Mayan’s we did not really know for sure. It would be so great to go and figure
out something really important to our understanding of their way of life. That
would make the trip all that much more special. I got images in my mind of the
fantastic temples and the ancient priests doing their gruesome ritual’s of death. What an image they would have made with
their multi-colored feather headdresses and feathered capes. They must have
looked stunning with the sunlight at their back to the common Mayan. They would
stand in awe looking up at them on top of the temple. The mental image of them
with their obsidian daggers as black as night, had me mesmerized. I shook
myself out of it and got my mind back on the pool game that we were playing,
just in time to watch me lose. My poor male Ego again.
Jan. 15, 2000
I had some really weird
dreams last night, it was almost as if something very
alien was trying to communicate with me. I am not sure but I think it had
something to do with the Temple we are going to see, but of course that is
impossible. It must have just been my over active imagination, it does get away
from me sometimes. I do remember one thing very clearly, and it make very little sense. It had to do with a rock and the
rock wanted me to know something, but it could not communicate it’s ideas with me. Pretty strange!
Jan. 16, 2000
Had another dream last night
but this one made even less sense then the last one. The rock was telling me
about other planets and how it wanted to go back into the stars. One thing
about these dreams that I find very weird is that the rock is always the same
and like no rock I
have ever seen before. Well lets have a coffee and
then get on with my day.
I started my packing today, I had to dig out all my summer clothes. I was also
told by a friend of mine on the inter net, that if I was going into the jungle
to take long pants and a long sleeved shirt. I am glad he said that because
when I thought about it, it made sense but I would not have thought of it on my
own. I tried to pack light but between the jungle, the beach and the night life
I ended up with my great big backpack full to the brim. I had to go through it
all because I figured that was way to much to take. I
must be getting to be like an old woman, you know the kind that travels with
fifteen trunks of clothes.
Jan. 18, 2000
The flight was not a long
one and we landed in Merida. At that point we were
met by a representative for our tour. Her name was Carla and she was to take us
to the resort. We had to take another short flight to go inland and to the
resort or so the itinerary said. The next plane was a small Twin engine plane that did not
deal well with all the thermal drafts. We were going up and down like we were
on a roller coaster. I had no problem with this and even enjoyed it a bit. I
notice Susan and Mike a couple of times and poor Mike did not look that good,
and there where a few there people who looked a little green by the time we
landed.
When we got our luggage and
headed out front, another surprise awaited us. There was a rickety old bus with
our guide standing in front of it. Some of the people complained to Carla about
the old bus but I thought it was quaint. It had the dingle balls hanging from
all over the place, and it sort of reminded me of the old Partridge family bus,
the way it was painted. We threw our gear in through the back door and boarded
the bus. As I climbed on to the bus the smell of the past passengers was still
lingering in the air and it was not an unnatural smell, PU. I sat down and
opened a window, that made it a little better. Susan
sat down beside me and said,
“Did you have any idea about this little bus ride?” I just smiled,
then with a little glint in my eyes I said,
“No, but don’t you think it adds a little color to our trip. You
know see the world through the windows of a bus.” She looked at me and we both
broke out laughing.
The bus trip was not so bad
when we got the right mind set. The view out of the window was absolutely
beautiful. I had never seen the jungle before and it was unbelievable. There
were so many shades of green, with smatterings of every color in the rainbow
all over the place. It was so incredible I could not believe my eyes. The bus
drove out of the jungle and around a corner and we were on the edge of a big
cliff. After I got over the thought that I was going to die
in a fiery crash at the bottom of the cliff. I realized we were still on
the road and that the driver really did know what he was doing, so I sat back a
tried to enjoy the view of the mountains. It was spectacular and I could not
believe it. I watch as numerous birds few out of the jungle and I noticed one
that looked brighter and more spectacular then the rest. I pointed it out to
our guild Carla and she almost fell out of her seat. She tried to point it out
to everyone, but no one but her and I got a good look.
After it was gone she told me it was a Doe Doe bird
and they are thought to have been extinct since the Mayan’s fell from power. I
thought how could they know of a bird so recently
extinct, I mean it did not have time to fossilize, so I asked Carla and she
said. That the birds were valued by the Mayan priests for there feathers. They
were written to have magical properties. I found this very interesting because
I had never heard these writings before. I mentioned my confusion to her and
she said, it was not on the temples but in some of there writings that had been
handed down over the years. This amazed me even more because I did not know the
Mayans had left any writings. She told me that they had but most scholars did
not believe the writings as being true Mayan. I asked why? She told me because
the writings had been translated and transferred to modern material over the
years and archeologist have trouble studying computer
text and images. I could see where that would be a problem, most of the
Professors I knew did not even know how to turn on a computer. We talked a
little more about the writings and she said she would try and get me a copy.
Then she turned to the rest
of the group and said, You should all watch out the
front now as we round the next corner we will come into view of the resort and
the ocean. It is quite the view. She had a measure for understating thing the
view was incredible. We rounded a corner and found ourselves looking down at
the coast. The contrast between the aqua color of the ocean and the green of
the jungle was fantastic. Then right in the middle of it all was a large white
building with a red roof. The hotel was done in an old Spanish style of
architecture and it’s beauty and majestic attitude
could not be described by mere words. We drove closer and closer and came to a
gate with a cobble stone drive behind it. At first I did not see them, but as
we drove through I saw them. Two armed guards and I do mean armed, they both
had 45's on their hips and Uzi’s over their shoulders. I asked Carla about it
and she said it was just protection for the guests, but I thought protection
from who we are out in the middle of nowhere. Oh well, better safe then sorry.
We drove up to the front doors and it was like stepping back in time. There was
another gate, this one was large and made of rod iron. It was painted red to
match the roof and could be closed to cover the front doors. A host of bell
hops came running out to grab our luggage and take it up to our rooms.
Walking into the lobby was
like walking into history, except for the electrical lights, computers and a
few other things. The lobby looked as if it belonged in the home of a very rich
land owner of the 1500's. The accessories and the
decorations were of the finest craftsmanship. The wood trim all around the room
was carved and polished to a luster that I could almost see myself in it. The
carpet was a rich red color and looked brand new, while the walls were a plain
white. It might even have been authentic white wash. I felt like Zorro was going to come swinging from the chandelier at any
moment. It all had a Saturday matinee feel to it, which I liked. This all gave
me a feeling of expectation and excitement about the place. The group moved to
the front desk like a group of Keystone Cops in a cartoon, and checked in with
the assistant manager. His name was Paulo, and he directed us to the right
bellhop. Then I followed him up to my room. Following the bellhop into my room
I was amazed, I had ordered a single room but we were walking into a two bed
room suite. It looked nicer then my apartment back at home. I turned to the
bellhop and told him this could not be my room, I had only a single. He told me
that this was the room I was assigned, so I picked up the phone and called the
front desk. Paulo answered and asked if there was a problem with the room. I
told him no but that I had only paid for a single. He replied that he knew
that, but it was not available, so we upgraded your room. I thought about that
for a second then thanked him very, very much. Then turning to the bellhop I
gave him a big tip. He looked at it and thanked me very much,
I told him if I have the big room I might as well tip the big tip.
I settling into my room, by grabbing a beer from the fridge and
unpacking, boring. That did not last to long and I was off to explore my
surroundings. Leaving my room I walked out on to the terrace and another
beautiful view assaulted my eyes. I wondered if people ever got tried of
looking at it. Nah, then walking along the terrace I made my way to the pool
area, It was huge and kidney shaped with a bar in the
middle, Very Cool. There was also another bar for people who did not want to
get wet and I walked up to that one. Getting a drink I started walking through
the gardens. Looking around I want to get a feel for the place and see what was
what. After a few minutes I came to a fountain with a funny little man sitting
at it.
He was so deep in thought
that he was oblivious to the beauty that surrounded him, so I guess that
answers that question. People can become jaded by the beauty of even this magnificent surrounding.
I walked up to the fountain and looked at it. It was of an ancient Mayan
design. I mentioned this to the little man and he looked up in amazement. He
asked how I knew it was of Mayan design. I told him I studied Anthropology at
school and South American cultures were the ones that interested me the most.
He smiled and told me I was right, then asked if I was going to the Temple. I
told him yes, that is why I came here. We talked about it for awhile then he
said,
“Be careful there is something not right about that Temple. I have
traced a mass migration of Mayans to this city just before they disappeared.
Close to a million Mayans came to the Temple and just disappeared. There is no
explanation for what happened, only stories of joining the Old Gods. Actually
it does not say old gods, a more literal translation would be the creators, but
that does not really make sense with what we know about Mayan mythology. Then
again either does Old Gods. Oh well just another mystery to solve.” He got lost
in thought again and I was not sure if I should disturb him or not. So I told
him I would be careful and moved off through the
garden.
The rest of the day was
pretty eventful I drank, I swam, and I ate, it was a party I will remember until
the day I die. I even met a lovely young lady, Ok so she wasn’t that young, but
we had fun.
Jan.19, 2000
Woke up this morning and I
was not feeling to well, Not enough sleep and to much to drink. Not to mention
the dreams are back and they were even more intense this time. I think it was
because I drank to much the night before. I dreamt of the exodus that the old
man had told me about in the garden yesterday afternoon. Millions of Mayans had
lined up to the top of the Temple and then just disappeared. It was really
weird, Oh well, I can always sleep on the flight home.
I went for breakfast and saw Susan and her boy friend Mike. Told them I was
going to go to the ruins of the Temple today and asked if they wanted to come
along. They told me they had all ready made plans and that they were going to
go tomorrow. I said Ok, and finished my breakfast as they made their way out to
the pool.
After breakfast I made my
way out to the front desk and saw Paulo the assistant Manager there. I asked him
if I could get a guild and a car to take me out to the ruined Temple. He smiled
and nodded yes, then told me it would be out front in about half an hour. I
went up to my room and changed into some bush clothes, and packed a small pack
of things I thought I might need. Then I made my way down to the front door.
Standing by the gate I was a little surprised to see Carla come driving up in
an open top jeep. I bid her good morning and she asked if I were ready to go. I
jumped in and we were off. I looked around in the Jeep and saw a cooler, a
picnic basket and another small backpack. I said you come well prepared, you must have done this before. Yes, I grew up
around the ruined Temple, and I know just about everything there is to know
about it. At that I smiled at her and said, is that so? And we drove off into
the jungle.
The drive to the ruins was
over some pretty rough terrain, there was no road
after all they did not want just anyone going to the ruins. It was for the
ruins protection, as well as protecting Carla’s livelihood. On the drive I
asked kidding around if she wanted me to blindfold myself, I was kidding but
she answered quite seriously, “no.” We moved through the jungle and eventually
came to a small stream which she drove across. She told me that the stream is
very low. At One time it was the source of fresh water for the Temple and all
the Priests that lived there. She told me, in the past
it had been much bigger and would have been classified as a river. No one is
quite sure why it has gone down so much in a thousand years,
the rest of the area is pretty much the same still. They broke through the
undergrowth and I came face to face with the ancient pyramid for the first
time.
I got out of the Jeep once
she had pulled up to the pyramid and started to look around. It was one of the
most unusual sites in the Mayan world. There was nothing there except the
Temple, no village. No one had even found any ruins from the huge work force
that had been needed to build such a wonder as a pyramid. I turned to Carla and
asked if anyone had ever found where the work men had stayed while they had
built this temple. She told me that the most excepted theory is that they came
from a village about a hundred kilometers up the river, but even that does not
make sense. Then I asked has anyone ever come up with a reasonable explanation
for why the Temple is here. She shook her head and said that is if you do not
include Professor Perkins. He is a weird little man who comes down here for a
month every summer. He has some very interesting ideas, but no proof, even if
they are not true, they would make an excellent Science Fiction novel.
I told her that I had sort
of met the Professor in the garden yesterday. He had warned me to be careful if
I come out here things just are not right he said. Carla smiled and nodded,
then said, that sounds about right. I think the Professor wants the place all
to himself. He thinks he is on the verge of a big discovery. I nodded that I
understood, but thought it had sound like more then that. At that point she
said she was going to get lunch ready, and I told her I was going to look
around and would be back soon.
I wondered off and started
looking at some of the pictographs. I could read some of it, but there were
also some new symbols that I had never seen and had no idea what they meant. I
took some pictures with my digital camera. Using my laptop I tried to figure
out, what they were trying to express. There were a couple
that kept showing up more then others and in different contexts. I took
more pictures of them all, so I could maybe figure them out later. I looked at
my watch and realized I had been gone for a lot longer then I said I would be.
I turned to find my way back, but I was not sure which way to go, so I flipped
a coin. Off I went and eventually got back to Carla and lunch.
As I came into sight she
gave me a look as if to say, ‘where have you been?’ I move to her and
told her about the unusual writing I had found. She looked at me as if I were
crazy. I told her really and then showed her the image from my digital camera.
She said she had never seen them before and that she had no idea what they met.
I sat down and started to eat and we looked them over. After having looked at
them for a couple of minutes she came to the conclusion that they were numbers,
but they were not numbers from the Mayan number system. She said they looked to
be of some earlier cultural group, but not really. Looking more closely I could
now see how she thought they were numbers, there was a
distinctive Olmec and maybe even other cultural
influences. Pulling up information on other cultures and there mathematical
systems we concluded that they were numbers. If they were numbers then maybe
the whole thing was an equation of some sort, after all the Mayan’s were very
advanced mathematicians. I tried converting some of the symbols to numbers and
make sense out of it, ‘NOT.’ I am just not as knowledgeable as I had
hoped. Carla pointed out a few different symbols that could have indicated
different numbers, but over all we were stumped.
Finishing lunch Carla gave
me a tour of the pyramid. She was very well informed and knew most of the
translations. When we climbed to the top she showed me the
alter, I just stood there looking at it for a minute, it was the same
rock as in my dreams for the last week or so. I could not speak, so she
continued and told me it is believed that thousands of Mayans had been
sacrificed on it. Looking at it I got the creeps it looked like stone but I
could not place what kind, I asked Carla but she did not know either. I am sure
it was my imagination or the fading light but I thought I saw it move. Not from
one place to another but as if it was breathing or pumping blood. I just
chalked it up to lack of sleep and an over active imagination. We made our way
down and tried to find the section where I had found the unusual writing. It
was gone, I could not understand. How could it be there one minute and gone the
next? Carla headed back to the Jeep while I looked more but I could not find
it. This Pissed me off because no matter how hard I
tried I could not convince her that I had really seen it. I just left it and
decided to work on it on my own and see what I could come up with.
That night at dinner I had made copies of the pictures and
was working on them at the table. I had not notice Susan come up behind me, she
was looking over my shoulder and said,
“That looks like an image of star constellations.” I looked at it
again and could not believe how dumb I had been. It was a perfect
representation of stars as seen from the southern hemisphere. I looked at her
and asked,
“Can these constellations be seen with the naked eye?” She thought
for a moment then said,
“Well some of them can,” Then she pointed at a small
representation, “but not that one.” I thought for a moment, ‘How then did they
know it was there?’ Susan continued,
“It looks as if your equations are not in base ten math.” I was floored, that is why it did not make any sense,
but why would the Mayan’s do math based on something besides base ten. They did
have ten fingers didn’t they.
I converted the number I had
and made up the equations. Susan said, I just saw that
equation in an article in Astronomy Today. I am not sure but I think it had to
do with calculating the existence of planets around other starts. There was a
big TO DO about them finally proving that other planets do exist in other solar
systems. Now I could see what the math was for, it calculated celestial
movement and existence of planets. I am really confused,.
I asked her if she knew if this calculation was for a specific solar body or
just in general. She looked at it some more, then told me it looked pretty
specific but it was impossible for her to know exactly. She did have
a program on her laptop that might be able to identify it.
At that point Mike came up
and said he was ready. They were going to the club on the resort, they asked me
to come and I said only if they have a pool table. Susan smiled and said yes
they do and I will kick your butt down here also. I said great but I have to go
get cleaned up first, I will meet you there. I did and went to the club, we had
a great time and I even danced a few dances with a lady I met, she lived about
ten minutes from my apartment in Toronto.
Small World.
Jan. 20, 2000
Well I feel much better
today then yesterday, I did not drink as much. GOOD BOY!!! After breakfast we
all met up and headed off to the ruins again, during the trip Susan and I
worked on the equation. Putting it into her computer with all of it’s astronomical information the computer almost seem to
have a mind of it’s own. It seemed to just draw out information that it needed
and use it, as if the equation was also a program that could search a data bank
as well. Susan was amazed, from what she could tell it was calculating the
exact position of a planet that was orbiting a star we called, M9. While the
calculations were going on she looked up what was known about M9. It is in the
constellation Ophiuchus and was not a star but a
globular cluster. It is about 26,000 light years from earth. Those stars are
much closer to the center of the galaxy only about 5,500 light years away and
thus it is much older then our solar system. It is believed that the stars in
the M9 cluster are from 12 to 20 billion years old. At this point the
calculations seemed to end, but all we got as an answer was a date. The date
was two days from now, but what did it mean.
At that point we arrived at
the pyramid, and both Susan and Mike were amazed at the sight of the great
pyramid. They climbed out of the Jeep and slowly walked towards it. It was
almost as if they were mesmerize, then Mike said,
“Unbelievable how in the
world did they ever build this?” Carla answered
“It is suspected that it took them about fifty years of continues
work and a work force of about 5000 people most of them slaves. The
organization must have been amazing, could you image any countries government
trying to do a project that would not be done in their life time today. I don’t
think they could ever organize it. So you can see there were advantages to
culture.” I looked at her and said,
“Yes but there were also major draw backs, like slavery and almost
constant warfare.”
“You are right, but no one went hungry and they all had a very
high quality of life.”
“Except the slaves and the
dead.”
“Yes but don’t you think our world would be better off with out so
many mouths to feed. I would rather have less people who could feed and cloth
them selves, instead of what we have now.” I could not argue with her on that
point, but I still do not think all that power in the hands of so few was such
a good idea. We then moved around the temple and I was looking for the
mysterious writings from yesterday. This time I found them, they were in a
small alcove that Carla had not ever seen. She was absolutely amazed that she
had never seen it before, how could that be she grew up playing on this
pyramid. I noticed something, there were more
pictographs this time, almost as if the next chapter had been written. I again
took digital pictures, just incase the alcove disappeared again.
While I was doing that Susan
and Mike walked up the steps to the top of the temple. The images this time were
very ritualistic. They described how the priests did there sacrifices and how
they could talk to the Creator. It looked as if a window or door
opened next to the stone alter, it did not make any sense to me. Carla
could not add anything that helped, she figured that
the sacrifice was what brought the window into being, but how? I had it all
down on my laptop so we made our way to the top of the pyramid to look at the alter again.
Carla and I climbed up to the alter and started to look it over. In looking at the
rock of the pyramid and comparing it to the rock of the alter,
the two are very different. I asked Carla if she knew where this rock could
have come from. She told him that she had never seen it before,
it must be from very far away. I at that point took out a hammer and was about
to take a sample of the alters rock. I rose the hammer
and was about to bring it down when all of a sudden there was a blow dart in
the hammer about an inch from my hand. When I saw it I dove for cover, and when
I did I cut my hand on the hammer. I
gabbed the alter and looked around but could not see
anything. The amazing thing was that the nearest place to hide and fire at me
was at least 50 meters away. I searched the foliage for any sort of movement or
image, but there was nothing.
At least not in the bushes,
but something weird was happening on the alter. At
first I could just make it out, it looked like a blue tinted window with a
frame around it. The frame looked like it was made the same rock as the alter. As it became more substantial a landscape could
be seen on the other side. It was evening there and the stars were coming out,
Susan, Mike and Carla were looking over my shoulder. Mike and Susan both looked
at the stars and then told the rest, that what they were looking at was not
earth. Susan even theorized that it might even be the planet that they had
proven was rotating around one of the stars in the M9 cluster. I asked why she
thought that, she told us that because of the stars in the sky there. They are
not the stars you would see from anywhere on earth.
At that moment there were
all of a sudden six natives standing around all with blow guns in there belts
and machetes in their hands. Carla asked them what they wanted?
One of the natives stepped forward and pointing at me, and said, the priest has
come back from the Creators. We have guarded the secret until your return. Now
you must send us to meet the Creators, so we can have eternal life. I looked to
Carla, With a what is he talking about look?
She shrugged her shoulders and asked the Mayan,
“What are you talking about? I have never read anywhere that said
anything about the Mayan’s believing in eternal life,
and what is this window or door thing that just appeared?” The Mayan looked at
me and eventually smiled, then he said,
“You are testing me. I have studied the old text and they tell of
the old one falling to earth, and the priests said to build a temple, and so it
was done. When the temple was done the Creator was raised to the top and the
sacrifices started. At first they where in secret, but then as the people
started to noticed the strange powers that the priest possessed there came a
demand to know more. The sacrifices became more public and bigger in scale.
Eventually the people wanted to go through and meet the gods, it started in
small groups. Then the word came that the Creator Religion had fallen out of
favor with the Mayan ruler, and an army had been sent to destroy them. The
people fled some to be with the Creator saying they would be back. While others like myself stayed to protect the old ways. We
passed on what knowledge we had but a lot of it was lost when the army arrived.
You see they destroyed the Creators city, not a brick was left, except the
Temple. When they went to destroy it all of a sudden all the soldiers got sick.
The more they tried to work on the Temple the sicker they got, eventually the
leader of the army moved his men away from the Temple, and everyone at once got
well again. This sealed it as far as the army was concerned the place was
protected by the evil spirits of the Creator Religion.
When we came back to look
for our hidden knowledge of how to use the alter it
was gone. We knew that the priests would come back for us, after all we
protected their escape and they promised us we would have eternal life in
return. You must be the priest come back to us in another form.” Then they all
got down on their knees and bowed to me.
I did not know what to say,
I did not what to insult their beliefs. After all they did have our lives in
their hands. I went to the one who had told us the story and made him rise up.
I took a chance and told him I did not remember my past life as a priest but as
I have always wanted to come here maybe he was right. I also told him I would
help him all I could to get back to his people.
At that I turned to Susan
and said,
“Is there any way to know if this is the planet that the other
Mayan’s went to?” She pulled out her laptop and started to do some
calculations. I asked what she was doing? She
explained that all groups of stars moved in a predictable pattern and if she
could project backwards far enough she might be able to give an answer. She
said it would take awhile and maybe we should head down. I looked at the native
in charge and asked if anyone else would be going on this trip. He nodded yes,
so I told him to go and get them and make sure they are ready to go. This is a
one way trip, I do not think you can come back, so
make sure everyone wants to go. At that all six natives got up and moved off in
to the jungle. Susan and Mike were working on her computer and they were have a heated discussion about something. I walked over to
see what was going on as Mike said,
“I don’t think it is the same planet,
look at the margin of error. It is way to large for
something like this. At those kinds of distances if it is out even a fraction
of a Nanometer it could be missed by so far you would not even see it.” Then
Susan said,
“Yes but we are all ready in contact, we just have to know if it
could be the same planet as we calculated in the other equation.” Mike shook
his head and said,
“I don’t know, but if you think you are right who am I to disagree with you.” I looked at them and said,
“So is it the same planet?”
“Yes we think so, but we can not be 100% sure.”
“Ok that brings me to my next question, do we have any idea if it
is safe or not?”
“No non at all,” said Mike. Then Carla said,
“I think it is safe, after all the priests did allow their people
to go there. The Priests of those days were very protective of there
congregation.”
“That is all fine and dandy to say, but had they even been there
or were they just going by what they were being told by some extraterrestrial
intelligence? Since it seems to be a one way trip it is almost impossible to
find out for sure.” Then Mike made a very interesting observation. He said,
“What was the date for?” We all looked at each other and thought, What was it for?
I was very confused, If this thing
connected planets, and it seemed to, I would have thought the date would have
been when the planets were aligned properly for
connection. That does not seem to be the case, or maybe it is after all we did
not try to send anything through the window. At that I picked up the hammer and
tossed it at the window. It hit it as if it were a sheet of metal of some kind.
I then put my hand up against it and gave it a little push. What ever was over
the window I could not push past. I turned to Mike and
said,
“There you go, the date tells us when we can open the window and
go through. Does that make sense?” Everyone nodded there head, while I gave
mine a shake. I must be the biggest moron around, what if I had been wrong I
might be 26,000 light years from home right now. I got a little light headed at
the thought and sat down. Carla looked at me and said,
“Are you all right?”
“Yes, It is just that I can not believe
how stupid I just was.” We all sat down and looked through the window to
another world, what a beautiful moon rising. It had a reddish orange color to
it and was a lot bigger then our own moon. I don’t know how long we sat there
and watched, but the sun was rising and the Mayan’s were back. This time there
were about thirty of them and they had all there worldly possessions with them.

Their faith just amazed me,
for them to just pick up and leave like this. I would love to have that kind of
faith. To believe in something so strong that you will risk your life as well
as your loved ones and travel thousand upon thousand of light years, I almost
did not have the heart to tell them they could not go until the next day, but
they understood. We all sat and watched as the day passed, the scenery changed
as if it were flowing over the planet, or maybe looking down from orbit
somehow.
About an hour after the sun
had risen on the planet they were watching, we started to evidence of some sort
of civilization. The first thing seemed to be some sort of dam. It was off in
the distance so we could not really be sure it was man made, but then we saw a
road. It looked to be made of dirt at first then it seemed to be covered with
some sort of hard top. It was amazing we were looking in on another
civilization. One that we were thinking might be thousands of light years away,
and even more interesting it may have developed from a culture right here on earth.
What an interest study that would make, and my mind wonder as to what a Mayan
civilization could have done in 500 years.
While I had been thinking
about all this the image in the window had been changing. Now we were looking
at what appeared to be some sort of a farm community. There were domestic
animals of all kinds at least I think they were animals. They were very
strange, there were tall ones with what looked like feathers and then shorter
one that looked a little like pigs, but they were
purple. There were other animals around, but they passing by to quickly to get
all their details. It was fascinating, to see animals from another planet. Now
I was thinking maybe it would be a good idea to go and see this place for
myself. If I can get there I am sure I can get back. At that I turned to Susan
and said,
“When does the planet come back around again?”
“You mean after tomorrow?”
“Yes.” She got on to her computer and looking down at the formula
again she plugged in the numbers and let it do some calculating. It took a
couple of minutes but an answer finally came to them. The answer was in the
form of a date again, and it said, 02/21/2000. I could not believe it, it looked as if there was an open window at least once a
month. If this were so we could travel back and forth. I was now getting very
excited and was actually thinking about going.
I had to go for a walk and
calm down, this was all getting way out of control. I
walked away from the Temple and started off into the jungle. My mind was on the
outer space. I had walked for about ten minutes when I came to the river slash
stream we crossed to get here. It was a good thing I had wonder off in this
direction because I had no idea where I was and where I was going. So instead
of getting lost in the jungle I just sat down by the river and thought. ‘Could
I possibly go to this other planet? If I went and could not get back who would
that affect and how would it affect them? Do I have the right to do that to
people who love me? This is what I did instead of looking at images of the
planet. After I finished with my dilemma, not that I had come
up with any answers. I went back to the window and saw it was looking
down on a beautiful city. It was modern but different, they had modern
buildings but there were no cars or buses. Then it hit me, the American
cultures never discovered the wheel it was introduced from Europe. How
interesting no wheels, how different will that civilization be? I asked Carla
who looked as if she had not taken her eyes off the window, have you seen any
indication of a wheel of any kind? She shook her head no and just kept on
staring, she had not even blinked.
That day we sent recording
as much information as we could of the displaced Mayans. It was very
interesting and there was always something new to get excited about. At one
point we even came across a electric sign. It did not
have letters on it but was made up of Pictographs. Some of them I recognized,
but others were new. I mean back in the good old days on earth they did not
have electricity and thus a lot of things that go along with it. We all watched
and were amazed at all the wonders we found out just from looking at their
culture from afar.
I talked to some of the
Mayans and learned what they knew about this window and the people on this
world. It seems Professor Perkins was right, there was a mass exodus by the
Mayans as the Army had moved in to wipe out The Creators Religious group. It
seems the alter on top of the pyramid could be of
extraterrestrial origin, but it is known that it can open a window to the
Creators world. At least that is the theory, but until now no one has been able
to prove it. The Mayans who have protected their secret for 500 years did not
know how it worked and believed the Priests would come back and show them. That
is why you came was it not? I looked at them and told them I did not really
know.
By this point the day was
starting to come to an end and I realized we had not eaten since yesterday. I
asked the Mayans if they could prepare some food for us. They were embarrassed
they had not thought of feeding are earthy bodies before and begged for our
forgiveness. It did not take long and we had a feast in front of us. I had
never had traditional Mayan food and found it excellent. I had also not
realized how hungry I had been because I must have eaten enough food to keep
the average Mayan alive for a week. They laughed and joked about it. After
dinner the elders told stories of the past and the mythical. It was very
interesting and I found myself understanding this culture much better then when
I had only read about it. That night I fell asleep listening to stories, it
gave me some weird dreams let me tell you.

The Mayans woke me up and it
was pitch black out. I asked what was going on but the one who spoke English
was not there. They lead me up to the alter on the top of the pyramid, it was very spooky with the whole thing only light
up by torches. We got to the top and I noticed that the window had become a
door. Looking through it I saw if I step through it I would step out
onto an exact duplicate of this pyramid. I put my hand out to touch the door, Slowly my hand moved forward until it came to a wall of what
felt like cold air. I pushed thinking
there must be something there, but there was noting, so I moved a little
closer. I moved to put my hand through the door right up to my elbow this time,
it felt cold but only for a second then I could see my hand on the other world.
The Mayans all cheered, and started to chant. I pulled my arm out and thought
my god I just reached across 26,000 light years. I thought, with the Mayans
chanting and realization of what I had just done I could see how power could go
to ones head. I found the Mayan who spoke English and asked him if he would do
a little test for me. He said he would and I explained I wanted to know if I
went through could I get back. He looked confused and said you came back
already. Yes I explained but this time I would like to do it in the same body.
He understood that and moved to step through. He step through and the door
disappeared. Everyone turned to look at me as if I should know what to do. I
went through everything that had happened before the window had opened, but it
took a minute or two to figure out it was the blood. So I brought forward
another Mayan and held his hand over the alter. When
they were all looking I sliced his hand and put it on the
alter. It took a second, but eventually the door opened again. I then
ushered the man through the door. When he had entered it also disappeared. I
got the next one and we did the same but this time I sent a note along with the
Mayan for the one that spoke English. The note explained what was going on and
for him to signal from his side what he could see. Eventually I found out their was no door on the other side, and thus no way back. I
asked him to check the alter and see if it worked the
same as the one here. He signaled that it did not.
The rest of the Mayans went
through and there was just the four of them standing there. I asked them if we
could leave and go back to the hotel before I do something stupid. We did and I
went right to the bar and had a very stiff drink. I drank and drank but could
not get drunk, people came and talked to me and eventually went away and still
I kept drinking. All the while I was drinking I was thinking about going
through the door to the other world. I could think of a million reasons not to
do it and only one reason to go. I WANTED TO GO. I excused myself and went up
to my room.

This is written by Susan.
The next morning I did not see Graham and figured he just had a
bad hangover. I went out to the pool and enjoyed the morning but I could not
stop thinking about what we had done the day before. I wanted to go back but
decided to wait until Graham got up. When he had not risen by noon I went to his room and found he was not there. I checked
with house keeping and found his bed had not been slept in. This is when I got
worried, so I called Paulo and asked if he had seen Graham. He had not and
started a search. I thought about how obsessed he had been the night before and
that is when it hit me. I called Carla to take us out to the Pyramid and see if
he was there. We drove out, when we got there we started to search, but he was
not there. We climbed up to the top of
the pyramid, and there it was. Sitting on the Alter was Graham’s Trip Journal, he had gone on another trip one which he may never
be coming back from.
