Team one had gotten settled in at the Chateau. They were having their drinks and Denise said,
"So what are we going to do?" Darren signaled her that they should not talk as they are probably being monitored. Darren then got out some paper and pens and wrote a note saying. We are probably being listened to. Denise then said,
"Well why don't we go for a walk in the garden?" The rest agreed that was a good idea and they got up and walked out on to the balcony. The balcony went all the way around the building on their side. There were steps leading down to the garden and they made there way down into the garden.
The garden was absolutely fantastic and they started to walk through it. Then coming to a little gazebo they all sat down. Denise said,
"How are we going to find Chris in a place this big?"
"Well I think we can narrow it down to the Grey's base is under the Chateau. The first thing we have to do is find a way into the underground cavern," said Dave.
"I think we should split up and walk around the place and see what we can find," said Suzanne.
"OK, you and Darren go to the west while Dave and I go to the east. We will meet back here in about twenty minutes. If one of the teams do not show the other should go in that direction." They all nodded agreement and started out.
Denise and Dave locked arms and started off in there direction. They walked through the garden looking at the house. Dave then noticed what looked like a very short man walking through the garden towards a garden supply shed. When the man had gone into the shed Dave pointed it out to Denise. She nodded yes and they moved towards it. They moved up beside it and a light came on in the shed. The light came out through the window and Denise signaled that she was going to look in the window. She moved under the window and slowly lifted her head up so she could look in. After quickly looking in she dropped down again, she turned to Dave and let a little giggle out. Dave looked at her like she had gone mad. She moved over to him and said,
"You have to look for yourself."
Dave moved to the window and slowly moved so he could look in. It took him a couple of seconds until he could see the person who had gone into the shed. It was a young boy and he had met up with a young girl. They were lying on the floor in a young lover's embrace. Dave quickly got back to Denise and the two of them laughed under their breath. They then moved off and started to look again.
Darren and Suzanne headed off in their direction and had walked almost half way around the house. When Darren said,
"What is that over there?" Suzanne looked where he was pointing and said,
"It looks like an underground entrance of some kind. Maybe it is for a pantry or something look the driveway pulls right up to it."
"Well let's check it out, maybe we will get lucky." They moved over to the door and noticed it was made of heavy metal. They Darren pointed out an electronic key reader for the lock.
"Looks like they don't want anybody going in there with out them knowing." Denise then said,
"Do you think we can get in there."
"Yes but first we are going to have to break into their computer. Lets meet up with Dave and Denise and see if they have found out anything. They then went back to the gazebo and meet up with Dave and Denise.
Once everyone was back at the gazebo, they talked about what they had found. Suzanne and Darren had a good laugh when Denise told them what they had found. Suzanne said,
"That's OK because Dave and I think we found a way in."
"Great lets go, we get in look around and get out, works for me."
"There are two small problems. The first is a door that looks as if it could guard Fort Knoks. The second is the lock on that door will be very hard to get open."
"Well lets got on a computer and find a way in the basement." Dave said,
"That would be too dangerous, we do not know the security of the Chateau. Why don't we ask for a tour at breakfast, then after that we will have a better layout of the place." They all agreed thinking that would be the safest method to get into the basement and then the caves. They headed back up to their rooms. They saw a patrol of two guards walking through the garden as they were going back to their suite. Once back they said good night and everyone went to bed.
Christine was not sure how to precede. She had talked the local natives into being their guilds, but they would not go into the cave. They had told her evil spirits guarded the caves. The tribal shaman had gone to the cave and put protective runes on to the cave to keep the spirits in the rock. It was said to be safe as long as no one went into the cave. Christine was thinking over what to do when Jeniffer and Denzel came in. Denzel said,
"We should get going if we are going to make it to the Grey's base before mid-day. If not we may have to travel in the jungle at night and that would be very dangerous indeed." Christine nodded and got to her feet. Jeniffer said,
"How is Graham?" Maureen came in right then and said,
"He is going to be find in a couple of days, but he will not be able to go with you." Christine said,
"Ok, Maureen you stay here with Graham while the rest of us go and pay a visit to are visitors."
They geared up again and this time they headed off with one guild in the lead and another following up behind. The two guilds lead them through the jungle and stirred them around the dangers they came across. They came to a stop in a small clearing and the native who spoke French said,
"We are getting near to the cave where the spirits live. I am not going any closer. If you follow this path and do not go off it you will come to the cave in about 10 minutes." Jeniffer said,
"I have had some jungle training so I will lead the way. Stay close and walk where I walk." As they were walking away Christine thanked the two natives and told them to go back to their village and make sure everyone is in a cave for the next two days. If nothing happens then pretend like you have never seen us or heard of us, because we must have failed.
Jeniffer started off down the trail and kept her eyes open for any dangers. The trail was not well used and Jeniffer had to be very careful to stay on the trail. They rounded a corner and Jeniffer let out a little scream. Christine turned the corner and she found her waist deep in quick sand. Christine through her a rope and pulled her out. Jeniffer said,
"Thanks I could have been a goner if you were any farther behind me. That quick sand came up out of no where." They continued on their way and eventually came to an outcropping of rock. Jeniffer said,
"This must be the entrance to the cave, it looks like what the native described. There aren't those the markings he was talking about that his people put on them to trap the spirits in the rock." Christine and Denzel went over to look at them and Denzel said,
"Yes they are for the binding of spirits. At one time in my youth I took an interest in the native cultures of different African tribes." Christine moved to the mouth of the cave and could feel a chill coming from the cave. Even though they were in 90-degree heat in the middle of a jungle. Shinning a light into the cave Christine could not see to far into the cave as it quickly turned out of her sight. The cave felt very unnatural, not in the sense of being man made. No it was made by nature but there was something wrong with it. She could not put her finger on it but there was something wrong with it. Maybe the Grey's did something to the cave so the natives would not go near it.
She motioned Angie forward and said,
"Scan the tunnel and see if there is anything out of the ordinary." Angie looked down the tunnel entrance. She modified her eyepiece a couple of times. On the third scan she said,
"Yes there is definitely something there. It seems to be similar to the golden light but has the effect of causing an uneasy feeling in people."
"That would explain why I have this uncontrollable fear of the cave. What is the frequency so I can block it out."
"I don't think that will work this time. You would have to go back to Toronto and get another filter for your goggles. You will just have to fight down the fear, it should only last while you are in the field." Christine nodded that she understood and looked down the tunnel again.
The next day Denise got on the phone, when a person asked what they could do for her she said,
"I would like a tour of the Chateau, could that be arranged."
"Yes how would a half an hour be?"
"Fine." She then got everyone up. They all got dressed and made there way down for breakfast. Just as they were finished. The woman who had met them at the door the night before came up to their table.
"I hear you would like a tour of the Chateau?"
"Yes, are you to be our guild?"
"Yes, are you finished or would you like some more time?"
"We are done, I am really curious to see this place."
She led them down a hall that came to two large double doors. Opening them they walked into a poorly lit room. It took their eyes a couple of minutes to adjust to the light, but when they did they were amazed. The room was full of all sorts of Chinese artifacts. There were scrolls in glass display cases as well as carved jade. What amazed them the most were the walls. They were covered with weapons from all regions and time periods of China's past. The group spread out and started to look at some of the objects. Their guild started to tell them about some of the different things on display. One thing that Suzanne found most interesting was a scroll said to be from one of China's most feared sorcerers. She tried to read it but could not make any sense of it at all. They moved on to another room. This one was a solarium, in here they found a very rare collection of Herb's. Their guild told them that some of the Herb's in the room were said to be the cure for aging. The only problem was that no one knew the proper mixture of them. Suzanne said,
"Maybe that is what is on the sorcerers scroll?"
"Maybe," said their guild. They then moved on again. This time they came to a group of rooms. They where all full of books, and full was the right word, as there were only little walk ways through the piles of books. The rooms had the smell of old books. It was quite fascinating, and Dave asked,
"How does anyone find anything in here."
"Oh, the steward knows where every thing is. It is actually quite amazing. I have seen him asked for something, he will walk-in and go right to it." They looked around and saw that most of the books were ancient. Dave picked one up and started to look through it. It was written in English but a very old style. He could not quiet figure out what it was talking about. They made there way threw the rooms and came to a large comfortable room. It was furnished in leather and wood furniture. It had the look of a research area in a library.
"This is the reading room. Here we have all the major news papers and access to the inter net through our computers." The group then noticed that there were four computers at individual desks. All four of them looked at each other.
The tour continued for another twenty minutes. When they were in a wine cellar Darren asked,
"The basement seems very small for a house this size? Is there more to it?"
"Yes there is but it has been deemed unsafe. The sections we have been in have all been restored. The rest is being worked on but it is a slow process as the Duke does not want things disturbed by the work." Darren then pointed at a door and said,
"Is that why it is so well guarded for the safety of those who do not know?" She nodded yes and led them out of the area and back up to the dinning room.
"I hope you enjoyed your tour, but I must leave you now. I have things I still need to do for the party tonight."
Walking into the dinning room was like walking into an issue of who's who. They got some food and moved to a table. Looking around they saw people who were noble prizewinner and professional athletes. They could not believe the people that were coming to the Duke's party it was quite a testament to his power. As soon as they were finished they headed back to the reading room. Once there they got on to the computer and hooked up with the DCD, back in Toronto. They then hacked into the security system for the Chateau. This took them quite a while as it was a very advanced system. So advanced that it was not human. The DCD came back with a report that the security was of Grey's technology. They eventually got in and found the door they were looking for and got it open. They also found a map of the caves lay out. They printed up a copy and headed back to their room.
Back in their suite the group made their plans. They could not talk so they had to write everything out. This took them a little while but they had it all figured out long before the party. They all decided to lie down for a nap as it could be a long night. Darren and Suzanne went into one room while Denise went to another. Dave stayed in the lounge saying he could not get any sleep.
Team one moved into the cave with Denzel and Angie on the point. Christine was in the middle, about a dozen paces behind them. Then came Jeniffer and Chico in the rear. Angie takes the right side of the cave while Denzel moves up the other side. The two of them are scanning the floor, walls and ceiling for traps and alarms. They are moving along at a slow pace as they check out anything that looks unusual. Christine says in a hushed voice,
"Check the upper and lower light wave. they will probably not put any alarms or traps in our visual range." Denzel says to Angie,
"I will do the upper wave, you can do the lower waves." She nods her agreement, and they move down the tunnel.
After about another twenty feet Denzel signals a stop. He says to Angie,
"Shift to the up end of the spectrum. There is some sort of web of light waves in front of us. It just came out of no where." Angie did some adjustments to her eyepiece. She said,
"They are serious about covering this entrance." The two of them moved forward to look at the interlacing of the light beams. Christine could see them pointing and talking. They were obviously trying to map a way through the web of lights. Jeniffer and Chico had moved up and where looking at the web from a distance. Chico said,
"They are never going to find a way through that." Jeniffer looked at him and said,
"Why are you always so negative?"
"It comes with the job, expect the worst and you are prepared for it. If you are ready for it you will usually live through it."
After about ten minutes Angie says,
"OK, I think that is the best route, let me try it first as I am smaller just in case it is not as open as we think it is." She then started to move. She was bending herself around the light waves that Christine could not see. It looked like some sort of bizarre dance in slow motion. After about ten minutes she said,
"I am through the way we picked works but some one is going to have to go through with Christine. It is very difficult and since she can't see the light beams it will be even harder. Denzel you come next with Chico right behind you. Then Christine you follow him with Jeniffer behind you. That should make it as easy as possible."
Denzel started out and made three moves around light beams. Then Chico followed him. Christine did not let Chico get so far ahead as Denzel was. She watched his every move and asked him where the beams were. Things were going well when all of a sudden going under a beam Christine slipped and fell flat on her face. She stayed perfectly still and Jeniffer moved up behind her. Jeniffer said,
"Don't move there is a beam right by your right foot. You need to roll your ankle to get under it. Then pull your foot into your body. You will then be safe on this side." Chico turned and looked at her and under his breath he said,
"Amateurs, they will endanger us all." Christine looked at him and said,
"If it was not for us amateurs you would be a walking computer right now, so take a look and see if it is clear for me to get up." Chico looked and said,
"You are clear." Christine got up and gave Chico a dirty look, and they continued on. She wiggled through the rest of the web of lights with out any problems. The rest of them also made it out with out any problems.
Denzel and Angie took up there position on the point again. The group then started down the tunnel again. The tunnel was going down as it had been since they had entered it. It was not steep but they had probably gone down at least fifty feet since they had entered the tunnel. It also seemed that the tunnel was going around in circles. Angie signaled a halt and her and Denzel moved back to the rest of the group. She said,
"There is a room up on the right side of the passage about ten feet around the corner. I think there is someone or something in the room but I can not be sure. I am going to scout it out and I will report right back." She checked her weapon and made sure the silencer was on properly. Everyone else did the same and they moved into position so they could get to her quickly if it was necessary. Angie moved down the wall until she was right next the opening to the room.
She looked in and saw two Greys. They appeared to be monitoring a control panel of some sort. She figured these were guards stationed to watch the door. The monitor was probably for the web that they had made there way through. The two Greys were not facing the door but had their backs to it. Angie signaled the group to move up. They did so as quietly as possible and when they were all by the door Angie watch into the room. When she thought it was safe she sent the first person past the open door. Denzel watched for her signal, when he saw it he quickly moved past the door and down the hall. He scouted the hall ahead and found it was clear.
Angie kept her eyes on the two Greys in the room. They had not moved so she signaled the next person to sneak past. Chico moved past the door and past Denzel. He went down the hall to watch for anyone coming up the hall. Angie checked on the Greys again and still they had not moved. She then turned and signaled Christine to moved across the doorway. Christine was as quite as a mouse and made it across. They were now all across except for Angie. She took one last look to see if the Greys had moved, they had not so she made her way across the door. They were now all on the other side and they started off down the tunnel.
This time Chico and Denzel took the point and Jeniffer and Angie came up the rear. Moving down the hall they came to a passage that, led off to the right. Chico said we should not over look any passages, or we may never find the power system. They headed down the right passage it was narrower and had more shadows to hide in. It only went about thirty feet. At the end they came to a door. There was some sort of push button doorknob. Chico opened the door to find they had entered a lab of some kind. There were no Greys there so they entered. The group split up looking around at the different equipment. Christine eventually figured out that they were in a biological research facility of some kind. She could not be sure if it was used to study humans or if they developed the viruses there. Christine was mad, how could these things come to our planet and just treat us like insects to get rid of. She said,
"We have to destroy this equipment, so they can not use it on other people." Chico looked at her with a look of contempt.
"We are here to destroy the whole base not just blow up a lab so you feel better. We do not have enough explosives to do both, so pull yourself together and let's get on with the mission." Christine was mad that she had given him another opportunity to prove she should not be there. She said,
"All right lets get out of here and find the power system."
They moved to the door and back out into the little hall. Things were quite so they moved down the hall to the main passage. They continued on it with two working point, and two as rear guards. Moving through the complex they found rooms that were obviously living quarters of some sort and funny enough they were all empty. Chico was becoming suspicious, and said,
"Where are they all? We should be encountering more Greys, could they all be at the Chateau for some reason we do not know about?" They all looked at each other but it was obvious that no one had an answer to his question.
They continued on looking and found what looked to be an armory. Chico opened the door and moved into the room. This time it was not empty. He was fortunate that he saw the Grey before it saw him. There was a quick burst of bullets form Chico's M-16 and the Greys chest was now gone. The rest moved into the room and started to look around. Chico was bent over a rack of weapons when all of a sudden a shoot few over his head. He turned quickly to see a Grey on the ground with a large knife in his hand. He had been sneaking up on Chico and was going to kill him with the knife.
He turned to see who had shot the Grey, and there was Christine with a smoking gun in her hand. Chico looked back at the Grey then turned to Christine and said,
"Thanks, now I owe you one."
"Wow, I bet that was hard for you to say."
"You will never know, but I do owe you one."
"That's all right you would have done the same for me." Chico said nothing, he just turned back to look at the weapons on the rack. He then said,
"We have to take some of these, they are years ahead of what we have. this one here looks to be a laser of some kind. While that one over there is a particle weapon. if we can figure out how they work that would give us a fighting chance against these creatures." He then picked up one of each and a dozen of what appeared to be clips for the weapons. The others did the same, but Christine moved to the weapons, then said,
"I don't think we should take these, we don't have a problem killing the Greys with our weapons and if these fall into the wrong hands."
"We have only come up against unprepared Greys. What happens went they are waiting for us? We don't know they may even have some sort of personal force fields. We may need these weapons just to put a dent into them." Christine though about what he was saying then she nodded her agreement.
"OK, your right we would be stupid to leave them here, but I am still worried that they could fall into the wrong hands."
"When we get back we will set up a security system to protect them. Would that put your mind at ease?"
"Yes I will feel better when I know they are safe." She then picked up one of each alien weapon's and a pile of clips.
They moved out of that room and continued on through the complex. They snuck past a couple of Greys doing some sort of maintenance work and eventually found the power system. It was in a large underground natural cavern. There were two or three Greys working in the cavern but it was so large that the group should be able to move around with out being seen. Christine was the look out. She would direct the others towards what they believed was the power generator or so they thought. She had a perfect view of the whole room from her elevated hiding place.
The rest of the group moved out on to the floor of the large cavern. They had no problem until they got about 1/3 of the way to the generator. Then one of the Greys started to move towards where they were. Christine ordered a halt and they all froze. The Grey came right towards them, Christine was about to tell them to move back when it stopped. It looked at a piece of equipment and then moved back towards the other Grey. They seemed to communicate but no one could hear anything. Christine gave the all clear signal and the group started on the move again. They had lots of cover and the Greys seem to be more interested in the equipment then anything else. They did not have any problem getting to the generator. Jeniffer said they were ready to start planting the explosives, if everything was clear. Christine gave the area a good looking over and was about to say all clear when another Grey walked into the room. She quickly told them to hold up as they had new company.
This Grey seemed to be a roving patrol as he seemed to just wonder around and see what was going on. He also had what looked like a weapon on his hip in some sort of holster. Christine shared her suspicions with the rest of the group and they pulled into deeper cover. The guard did not go near to the power plant or the hidden humans. In a couple of minutes he was gone and Christine gave the all-clear sign. The group moved up to the power generator again. This time they started to plant the explosives. They decided that they should set it up all the way around and that way they would get the most destructive force. It took longer to plant the explosives then Christine would have thought. She was starting to get worried when Jeniffer signaled that they were all done. She told Christine they had set the timer for an hour.
They had just got back undercover and were moving towards the exit when Christine said,
"Freeze. There is a group coming I can hear them." Everyone made for cover, and waited to see what was going to happen. Christine could not see the door it was right below her. She said,
"Can anyone see the door from where they are?"
"Yes, I can," said Denzel. "There is a group of five Greys standing in the door way. They look as if they are talking to each other but there is no sound."
"Can you get out with them there?"
"No, they would see us, no matter what we did."
"OK, we will wait for a couple of minutes and see if they are going to move on. If they do not we will have to take them out. How much time is left?"
"58 minutes, and counting," said Jeniffer.
They waited and each second seemed like an hour. Finally Chico said,
"We have to get out of here, get into position so we can take the Greys by the door out. Christine you are going to have to try and get a shoot on the two in the room. We can not leave anyone to set off an alarm." Everyone moved and they were in position, when one of the Greys came into the room and the others started off down the hall. Chcio said,
"Hold, it looks as if they are moving off." They waited another second or two and the way out was clear. They moved to the door and out as quickly and quietly as possible. in the corridor they met up with Christine and she said,
"The others did not notice you leave, I think we have made a clean break of it."
Christine then switched her communicator over so she could contact the plane. Graham quickly answered her and she smiled at hearing his voice.
"You are up and about all ready?"
"Well it was a bit of a fight with the Professor but finally I got my way."
"We are on our way out, If everything goes well we should be back at the plane in about twenty five minutes. Can you be ready to lift off by then?"
"No problem we will be ready. Did everything go as planned?"
"Not exactly, but we got everything done, I will tell you all about it when we get back."
"Ok, keep in touch."
By the time they had got out of the cave they only had about 40 minutes left. It would take them at least 20 of those to get back to the plane. They were cutting it very close. They made the best speed they could through the jungle and were back at the plane in just over 15 minutes. Christine had kept Graham informed of there progress, so he had the plane ready to lift off as they got in. they had 25 minutes to get away from an explosion that they did not have a clue as to how powerful it would be. They lifted off and flew straight towards the coast. They had been flying for 24 minutes when they started a count down. Graham took the plane into a slow gradual turn so everyone could see the explosion out the side windows of the plane.
When the count down reached zero they saw a huge flash where the base had been. It was not a nuclear explosion as there was no mushroom cloud but they figure it was probably as big. A couple of seconds latter they got hit with the first shock wave. It almost flipped the plane over and Graham had a very tuff time getting the plane back under control. He just got control as they were diving to the ground. He got the plane back to a good cruising height and headed back towards the explosion. If there were going to be any more shock waves he wanted to meet them head on. There were three more shock waves but they were not as big as the first and the plane rode through them with out trouble.
When it looked like the worst was over he got on the intercom and got a hold of Denzel. He asked,
"Is everyone all right?"
"Yes just a few cuts and bruises. What happened?"
"It was the shack waves from the explosion. We are coming up on the sit of the explosion now if you want to see what happened." Graham looked out his window and could not believe want he saw. Where the cave had been there was a swirling mass of light. It was every shade all at the same time. Graham could not be sure but it looked as if there were people down there, but that would be impossible. Graham called back to Denzel again and said,
"Start shooting off some pictures. I think there is someone or something down there. I am going to bring us in closer for a better look."
Graham circled the plane down lower and lower. He had to concentrate on flying the plane and could not look out as much as he would have liked, but he did catch a glimpse here and there. What he saw could not be happening. He called to Denzel and said,
"Are you getting all this on film?"
"Yes, I have video and digital cameras running, but no one will believe
this even with this proof."
