Chapter 3 - First Confrontation and the Last Goodbye

Relena was quite happy with herself. Not only was she able to fool Heero, she ended up having him for breakfast. Smirking to herself, she walked down the halls of the parliament building towards her office. Letting her smirk drop, she remembered how much actual paperwork she had missed because of the mysterious "occasions". Turning the corner, she opened the door to her office and gasped.
Duo woke up tired and slightly aching. He looked at the sleeping form next to him. Frowning to himself, he wondered how he got himself into such a terrible mess. He was hurting his best friend and most importantly, his girlfriend Hilde. Getting out of bed, he dragged himself into the shower. He kept telling himself that he had to end whatever it is he's having with Relena. They weren't going to be able to keep it secret any longer, and he already thought that Heero figured them out.
Heero walked out of the mansion and towards his black sports car. Slipping his sunglasses on, he stepped in and gunned the engine towards Relena. He needed to talk to her, and it just wouldn't have the same effect on her if he talked to her at home. He needed to get this out of him, otherwise he might do something that he would later regret. Smirking to himself, he stopped at a red light to think of what he'd say to her. Something along the lines of �Relena, I want to know what's going on right now.'
Getting out of the shower, Duo came face to face with Hilde. She kissed him good morning on the cheek and headed downstairs to cook breakfast. If Duo wasn't in such a mess, he would have thanked God that he had someone like Hilde to look after him. He did thank his lucky stars for a girl so perfect, but he mentally kicked himself for ever getting involved with his best friend's girl. Shortly after eating breakfast, he kissed Hilde good bye and headed down to talk with Lena. He had to end their affair now. Before someone would find out, and ruin both of them. Driving fast, he ended up cutting off six cars and running a red. If he wasn't more careful, he'd land up with speeding tickets. But he had to get there as fast as possible. Someone had to stop this because it was a mistake to begin with and deceit to keep it up.
Relena looked at her desk. It was overflowing with work. Stacks of files, papers and what not, were lined up along the edges of her desk, some even in piles on the floor. Groaning, she dragged herself to her desk and soon began to work out some paperwork with a space colony far from Earth. She really had gotten herself into a big mess this time. It hit her. This was the perfect excuse for Heero. He could see how much work she had and he would have to believe her because the proof was there! Grinning slyly, she got back to work, hoping against hope to see Duo later.
Heero parked and bounded up the front stairs to the guards at the door. Flashing his badge, they allowed him access and he was soon on his way to see Relena and hopefully the truth. Thoughts kept whirling around. Some saying to him, �what if you're wrong? Then you're accusing her of something she hasn't done...', etc. Shaking the thoughts from his head, he made a deal with himself to talk to her rationally, and if he happened to be right all along, break up with her gently. He didn't deserve to be used.
Duo managed to get to her office in time. She would be beginning her work just about now. Getting out of the car, he spotted Heero's black sports car. �Shit. He's here. How am I gonna talk to her this way? If he finds out, I'll have to kiss my ass goodbye,' he thought. Groaning, he turned back to his car and decided to head to Preventer's HQ for a talk with Lady Une. She might have some work for him to do since he had some time to kill, before he would be killed. Slumping in the driver's seat, he imagined what he'd say to her. Would she cry? Would she be relieved? He was trying to prepare himself for any reaction. Starting the engine, he turned around and made his way to Preventer HQ.
Heero walked down the long corridors until he reached Relena's office. Inhaling deeply, he tried to ready himself, calming his emotions before entering. Knocking on her door, he heard her scramble around and yell �coming!' She reached the door, slightly flushed and tired looking.
Relena was trying to figure out some numbers when she heard a knock. Bolting up, she tried to find a way out of her papers and just decided to jump over the stacks of paperwork. Running to the door, she told whoever it was outside, that she would be there. Finally reaching the door, she came face to face with Heero. "Oh! Hi Heero. Come in, uh I hope you can try to find a seat. They kinda left me with all this work to do. I'm sorry if I'm a little disorganized," she said hastily. Heero scanned the room. She was telling the truth after all...
Heero was discouraged. He had been wrong, or had he? Maybe she just got all this work sent in today so that if he dropped by, he'd follow her story. Not sure what to do, he spoke. "No, I'll stand. So much work, huh?" Heero asked. She smiled at him and hopped over her papers once more to get to her desk.
"Yeah, I've been bombarded with all this paperwork. I'm sorry if this is ruining any of our plans. Uh, what did you want to see me for?" she asked as she looked back on her work. �Oh God... please let him fall for this. I don't mean to do this to him, but I've dug myself kind of far and now it's a little too late to dig myself out without getting caught,' she thought to herself.
Heero frowned when she wasn't looking. He had to come up with an excuse fast, or she might think he's accusing her. "Uh, well I was wondering if you wanted to have dinner tonight, but I suppose you have too much work to do. I guess I'll see you tonight, or maybe not. I don't think you'll be home by midnight, am I right?" he asked.
She felt bad. This thing with Duo had to end. They were both hurting people they loved. He was hurting Hilde and she was hurting Heero, someone she strived long and hard to get. She wouldn't lose him now to such stupidity. "Oh, I'm sorry. Yeah, I think I'll be coming home kind of late. I really am sorry. Hopefully next time. I really can't afford to get behind in my work. These reports and everything just drive me mad. I wish I could spend more time with you," Relena said apologetically. She saw him frown once more, and felt her heart break. It was stupid of her to get pulled into something like that. She remembered that Duo was drunk and so was she, he made a pass at her and then all of a sudden that little kiss turned into a two-week long affair. It had gone too far already, and she wasn't about to let go of the man who loved her.
Heero knew it! Relena was never behind in her work. She was a hard worker who got things done as soon as assigned. She was hiding something. He'd find out soon enough. "Yeah, it's okay. I don't mind. But if you're coming home really late tonight, don't expect to see me waiting for you. I have to wake up early tomorrow morning. Meeting at Preventer's. I guess I'll see you later then," Heero said as he turned to leave.
Relena felt her heart sink. This was hurting Heero. Standing up before he left, she spoke hastily. "Heero, I'm really sorry. You know I wouldn't do this on purpose, it's my duty to finish these reports. I love you," she said, hoping that was enough to keep him from disappearing from her life forever.
Heero stopped as she talked. Turning around, he heard her words, trying to believe them. He just couldn't. He knew she was hiding something, if it hurt him, he'd just push it away. Then he heard her say she loved him. �Right, I'm sure you do,' he thought to himself. "Hn," was all he said as he turned to the door and left.
Duo finished speaking to Lady Une. Apparently they had a meeting tomorrow morning, something about terrorists. He left her office and walked to the elevator. Figuring he should go home, sleep a little and then go to see Hilde at the garage. She was doing the paperwork and he had mechanics that he pays to do work, since he's the boss, he may as well get some rest for tonight. He would go to Relena and tell her that it's over, that they weren't working out. Sure, it was fun, but they were going to get caught sooner or later and they couldn't afford that. Stepping into his car, he gunned the engine and went home.
:: Later that Night :: [12:45 AM > Relena's office]
Duo strolled along the halls of the building, quietly whistling a tune while he walked. Turning the corner of the last corridor, he saw Relena's office. �It's now or never,' he told himself as he turned the knob. Sure enough, Relena was there, but this time she was doing paperwork.
"Hey Lena. Wow, so much work?" he asked, astonished.
She looked up from her work and met violet eyes staring at her intently. Clearing her throat, she answered. "Yeah, I do. So, what brings you here?" she asked, stupidly. Mentally slapping herself, she knew what he was here for.
Duo grinned. She was trying to play dumb. Alright, he'd play along too. "Not much. Just to chat, check up on you, that's all," he said as he neared her desk. He heard the change in her breathing. Smirking inwardly, he came to stop a foot away from her face. Leaning casually against the mahogany, he spoke.
"Lena, this was fun, but I think we should stop this now. I'm sure Heero suspects something, and I can't keep lying to Hilde. You know I love you, but as a friend. I'm afraid that I may have destroyed that with you too. So, what do you think?" he asked, hoping she hadn't become attached to him.
Relena put down her pen and rubbed her eyes. "Duo, I think you're right. I mean, I love Heero, and I wouldn't want you to lose Hilde. She's a great girl. And, I don't think we've ruined anything between us. Let's forget that ever happened. So, how's life?" she asked, not sure what else to say. She was very much relieved. They both mutually agreed on ending this. Life would go on, nobody would be the wiser.
Duo leaned closer to hug her. She understood and she wasn't mad either. "Lena, thank god you're not mad. I shouldn't have let it gone this far. So, we're okay right?" seeing her nod her head, Duo pulled her up and into a hug.
"Duo, how bout one last time? Just for old time's sake?" Relena said, jokingly. Duo didn't seem to think it that way. A predatory look glazed over his face as he pulled her head towards his, taking her lips.
Relena squirmed momentarily, but stopped, once she knew it was what she wanted as well. Clothes fell as they moved to her crowded couch. With a swoop of an arm, the occupants of the couch [the papers] were strewn across the floor, forgotten in a heated rush. Duo licked outside Relena's ear, hearing her moan. He liked the way she sounded so much like a cat when he pleased her. She was his Princess, his little kitten, and one great fuck all in one.
Relena took the opportunity to push Duo's shirt off his shoulders and pull the hair tie out of his braid, letting his hair act as a curtain. She loved feeling the silky tresses fall over her body, almost as much as she loved him touching her. This would have to be fast though.

He felt her shoulder blades tense and relax as she closed her eyes, reveling in his touch. "Yeah, I think you're right too. Well, guess this is it huh? It was great while it lasted. Thank you for being there for me," Relena said as she triumphantly held up her bra and panties. Duo watched as her lithe form moved around the office in search for her thrown clothes. He pulled on his boxers and his pants.
They both dressed in silence and finally Relena spoke. "Duo, this has changed us hasn't it?" she questioned. Duo looked at her from the couch. She looked so pretty after they had sex. She was virtually glowing with happiness, something he didn't often see Heero able to do. He nodded.
"It has, but not for the worst. You know, things happen for reasons. We can't run away from it, and we didn't try. But it caught us and we fought it off. So, this is the end. We can't change what happened. I don't know about you, but I'm glad that we couldn't change it," Duo said as he stood to leave.
Relena looked into his violet eyes. They spoke with so much meaning, glinting love and happiness every time he spoke. "I feel the same way. I'm glad we didn't allow it to change, because this was a learning experience for both of us," she said as she came to meet him in the middle of the room.
Duo looked at her. She was so beautiful. Pulling her into his arms, he hugged her hard and kissed the top of her head once more before turning to leave. "Lena, I'll see you around," he said as he left.
AN: OOOO... Sorry people. Hey... don't worry. There will be more chapters. This one was just kind of closure for Duo and Lena.
