| Not only did the ZZ Gundam emulate the modular construction of the original RX-78 Gundam, but it was also designed from the outset to carry a set of add-on weapons and armor like that of the FA-78-1 Gundam Full Armor Type. Initial testing of these armor parts was under way as early as March of UC 0088, but it wasn't until the very end of the first Neo Zeon conflict that Judau Ashta's ZZ Gundam was fitted with an improved version of this add-on equipment. Ultimately, the Full Armor ZZ is used for just one sortie - begun on January 15, UC 0089 - in which the Near Argama's Gundam Team infiltrates the asteroid Axis and battles the Quin Mantha. The primary function of the Full Armor ZZ Gundam's extra components is defensive. Not only does the additional armor shield the core fighter and the vulnerable transformation mechanisms, but it also incorporates a small I-field barrier system that protects the mobile suit's chest area. Several batteries of missile launchers, and a backup waist-mounted hyper mega cannon, give the Full Armor ZZ increased firepower as well. The Full Armor ZZ Gundam can also be equipped with a powerful beam cannon - also described as a "hyper mega cannon" - which is mounted on the backpack in place of one of the missile pods. While Judau Ashta doesn't use this weapon during his sole outing in the Full Armor ZZ, it was tested on the FA-010A FAZZ some ten months previously. |
