To help the Gundam Mark II deal with the Titans' transformable mobile armors, the AEUG creates the G-Defenser, a power-up system along the lines of the RX-78 Gundam's G-Armor. The G-Defenser docks with the Gundam Mark II to form the G-Flyer, capable of cruising long distances both in space and in Earth's atmosphere. During combat, the G-Defenser pilot ejects in his cockpit capsule, leaving the main G-Defenser components to serve as additional armor and weapons systems for the Gundam Mark II. This mobile suit form, which has mobility and firepower equal to that of the Zeta Gundam, is nicknamed the "Super Gundam."

Gundam Mark II pilot Emma Sheen first forms the Super Gundam soon after the G-Defenser's introduction in August of UC 0087, and uses it often throughout the rest of the Gryps conflict. The G-Defenser parts are destroyed on February 21, UC 0088, in the battle in which Emma Sheen and G-Defenser pilot Katz Kobayashi also lose their lives.
