| After fleeing to the asteroid belt base known as Axis, refugees from the defeated Principality of Zeon began developing new technologies and weapons, in anticipation of their return to the Earth sphere. The Axis engineers eventually accomplished a goal that had eluded the Earth Federation's researchers - miniaturizing the psycommu system so that it could be installed in a regular-sized mobile suit. The result was the AMX-004 Qubeley, the personal mobile suit of Axis leader Haman Khan. Like the mobile armor MAN-08 Elmeth, the Qubeley is equipped with an arsenal of remote weapons, controlled by its newtype pilot via the psycommu interface. Unlike the Elmeth's bits, which each housed their own reactor, the Qubeley's tiny funnels use rechargeable E-caps to power their beam guns. After a few shots, the funnels must return to the Qubeley's funnel container to recharge and refuel. In addition to the funnels, the psycommu system is also used to control the mobile suit's own movements, giving it phenomenal agility. The Qubeley first appears at the very end of UC 0087, and plays a major role in the final stages of the Gryps conflict in January and February of the following year. Thereafter, Haman has her hands full launching her own campaign of conquest, and the Qubeley doesn't enter combat again until the end of the first Neo Zeon conflict on January 17, UC 0089. |
