An experimental mobile suit developed by the New Earth Federation military, the NRX-007 Colrel was built with tremendous speed and mobility as top requirements. To fill this tall order, the engineers who designed the Colrel stripped this mobile suit of almost every trace of armor and "excess" weight, even exposing crucial joints and frame parts. As a result, the Colrel was extremely light, and capable of moving at lightning-fast speeds. Due to its superlight frame, however, the Colrel's ability to carry any weapons was drastically limited to a single, hand-held beam knife.

When New Federation officers Shagia Frost and Olba Frost were looking for highly skilled pilots capable of taking down the Vulture ship Freeden's GX-9901-DX Gundam Double X mobile suit, they took charge of the Colrel prototype. The Frost brothers assigned use of this mobile suit to a possible candidate, the extremely psychotic Demar Graif, who earned the nickname "White Death" during a military campaign in Africa. Although the Colrel was originally painted in a red-on-light gray paint scheme, Graif refused to pilot it until he had it painted "perfectly white". With his new mobile suit properly colored, Graif moved out to destroy the Gundam Double X.

During the New Federation's invasion of Berude, capital city of the nation of Northernbell, Shagia Frost lured Garrod Ran's Double X into an enclosed town square, where Graif proceeded to administer the mobile suit equivalent of a "death by a thousand cuts". However, Garrod got lucky when he accidentally blocked one of Graif's beam knife attacks with his Gundam's beam rifle. The resulting explosion knocked back the Colrel and dazed Graif. Since the Colrel had virtually no armor to speak of, the mobile suit and its psychotic pilot then easily perished under a hail of vulcan gun fire from the Double X.
