Judging Criteria for Arts & Sciences
Documentation--Tell about your entry. How it was made, what and when such combinations of technique and material would have been used in period. If you used modern materials and methods, explain why you did so. Give a list of sources. Also tell the purpose or function of the item. The documentation should be neat, readable, and presentable. Be concise and informative, and include any relevant pictures, drawings, diagrams, or recipes. Complexity and/or Difficulty--Scope, ambition and difficulty of project. Workmanship--How well the goal was achieved. Does the item work? Aesthetic Quality--Presentation, based on period aesthetic values. Creativity and/or Authenticity--Creativity used /Authentic appearance.
Each entry is judged on an individual basis and each criteria is judged separately. Judges will assume every entry is "average" until their investigation of the entry and its documentation prove otherwise. This is a learning process, so judges will sign all judging sheets so the entrant can ask for further clarification, if desired.
