Life Without Duo    ending one

Red and blue lights flashed on the sheet-covered form on the gurney being loaded into an ambulance. Duo sat, crumpled slightly, on the sidewalk, watching them leave with wide violet eyes.
"Oh, Heero." He whispered to himself, one tear escaping his control. "Heero, you left me again."
A paramedic noticed the blood-splashed youth; the young man wrapped the boy in a blanket, forced a cup into his hands, and asked gently if he had any family.
"Yeah." Duo replied in a weary, bitter voice. "He went that way." He nodded in the direction of the ambulance, steam wreathing his melancholy features.
"Is . . . is there anyone I can call?"
"No." A sort of peace seemed to coat the pilot; an eerie gleam lit his eyes. "I'll manage fine on my own."
The paramedic talked to him for a while, but Duo didn't hear him.
'I'm coming, Heero. I won't leave you alone again.'
