Second Smallville Drabble
Hey, Lex, he said after a time. It would have been the perfect moment for a shooting star, but there was only the solitary satellite somewhere beneath the three-quarter moon.
Yes, Clark? Lex asked, careful in his acknowledgement as in all things. Clark felt the beginning of a grin, shrugged. The motion brushed his arm against Lexs, fabric on fabric, Lexs shirt catching enough moonlight to show violet.
Nothing, Clark sighed, kicked his heel into the fencepost.
Mmm. A knowing sound. Lex was a believer in information. Did you have a good time?
Yeah, it was great, he returned with a broad grin, shifting to catch Lexs eye, the older man watching him with a sideways hint of a grin. Just that little twist of the lips to indicate he was pleased. Sometimes Clark smiled enough for the both of them. I really appreciate you taking me -
Clark, you dont have to thank me. Lex stopped him with a hand, shaking his head and then rubbing the hand over his scalp.
No, I mean, Clark paused, frustrated. Thanks for, you know, hanging out with me. I have fun, you know?
Clark, Lex began, never getting much beyond a quiet sigh. Me too, he said at last, sounding very like a more cynical version of sincerity. Clark just laughed. A wind blew through the yard, kicking up a dust devil or three.
Do you think well be friends forever? Clark asked, something wistful in his voice, something even younger than his birth certificates sixteen.
Not friends, Lex said right away, with utter certainty, ignoring Clarks falling expression. You and I are destined for something more.
More, he said. His tongue flickered out to touch his lower lip. He could still taste Lex, their one kiss months old now and stolen from a dead man. What kind of more are we talking about, Lex?
Lex just slanted him a sideways look, the hinted-at grin never fading. As if to say, I think you know. Clark ducked his head, and smiled a little to himself. And, he thought, maybe he did.
