LATEST BILLY CURRINGTON NEWS Show Brings Singer Home - Well, Sorta Rincon boy Billy Currington is looking forward to his brief taste of home tonight as Loretta Lynn's opening act at Lanierland in Cumming. The venerable venue's season finale promises to be one of the most anticipated country music shows of the year. With "Van Lear Rose," country's reigning queen has produced one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the year. Currington's self-titled debut album, meanwhile, has placed two singles, "Walk a Little Straighter" and "I Got a Feelin'," in the Top 10. His latest single, "Party For Two," is a duet with Shania Twain. "Oh, man!" the 30-year-old told Buzz on Friday. "You wouldn't believe what that record and video have done for me. Shania actually called me to ask me if I would do the duet too. It was awesome. I was in a convenience store the other day, and it got a little out of hand. I was in there for maybe 20 minutes signing things for people. The bus was outside waiting on me too!" Currington has endeared himself to fans through the naked honesty of his songs, mostly co-written by the singer. "Walk a Little Straighter" was inspired by his late stepfather's battle with the bottle. "People cry and tell me stories from their lives after they hear it," Currington says. "As a singer, you always hope you can make that kind of connection." While the vocalist won't have time to visit Rincon (about 15 miles northwest of Savannah) on this visit, family and friends are making the trek to Cumming to catch the show. His mother, who works at the Super Wal-Mart in his hometown, has the night off for the occasion. Thankfully, his mother won't have to blush too much when the February issue of Playgirl hits the stands. Her buff boy is scheduled to be the subject of a four-page spread. "I'm not completely naked," the singer assured. "I'm crazy, but I'm not that crazy."
