| Why I love the market | ||||
| I think the left and right divide in politics is often overstated. I mean there are certain people who, when you grill them for a long enough period of time, want the same thing that you do. Not completely of course, but I remember talking to a hard-core capitalist, actually I've had the pleasure of having it out with a few over the past few yearsand they seem to want the world to be better with equality for all and they believe that capitalism and trade is the way to go. Look at China they say. It was a center for beauty, wealth and activity for hundreds of years and only started going down hill after it closed itself off from the rest of the world. I'm not going to get into this Needless to say, ya, they have a mild point in their logic. The logic ending in things getting better for everyone, which is what they want. I think that straight up, this is OK with me. I don't have a problem with this action. Guys like Gordon Campbell, I want to think are evil, but I can't. I know that somewhere under his skin he feels like he's doing the right thing. IF you look at his past, he helped as a volunteer in aid missions to Africa. The guy's father killed himself and he grew up pretty poor. So why would he fuck the people who were most like him? Well I figure he got out by belief in the market. And that's the whole point. The market isn't some evil thing. I like to think that it may be because of the insidiousness of it. It's one of those things that may be evil because it's not trying to do bad, but it's very creation makes it so Thing is that belief in the market was at some point hundreds of years ago something that I would have advocated for. This is a reoccurring pattern in history, things that are good at one point in herstory become corrupted at some point. It never fails. My thought too will go the way of the dinosaurs. The focus of this is 'intention' and it is why I love the market. It's pretty easy to dislike those who push for market capitalism as the only source and solution for liberty in the world. A quick look at there argument and the assumptions behind it exposes holes that you could drive a truck through. The point is that not everyone has a social science background, especially a majority of economists. Conversely none of the lefties I know have any background in political economy. But this is what's funny. I think that if everyone sat down, they'd realize a lot about each other and they'd both realize that they're getting fucked around by those in power or those who want to be in power. A lot of activists I know want to be the person who throws the rock that starts the revolution "never trust yourself and the rock that you hold in your hand" and a lot of people that have influenced the argument for the market being the system that we live our lives by, are sinister fuckers who are manipulating people for their own benefit. I don't give a fuck about rich people. I hate power. I hate hierarchy. And really on the face of it, those who get influenced by an ideology, or better put, a view of how the world is (i.e. run by people who know what they're doing if the fucking activists didn't always try to screw things up or run by people who know what they're doing if it wasn't for the man, man. The godamn capitalist, petty bourgousie, establishment, man), they are all going for the same thing, and nobody knows who's gonna being there laughing last. I love the market cause it's a goal. It's a belief system. It's something that people believe will eventually lead us to grace. It will save us from damnation. It will be the end of herstory. I've heard this before and I don't buy it. But then again I trust very little. Including those that tell me the revolution is going to bring the end. "Never trust the people you elected instead." |
