Where Love will Bloom (part 2)

"Oi, Duo! Are you done with those?"

The young man turned around and saw his father wobbling towards him with a basket full of carrots. He smiled warmly to the older man as he ran to help him.

"Phew, I don't think I could have held those much longer."

Duo frowned at his father as he hoisted the basket onto the worn-down old cart. "You know, you're as stubborn as a mule."

He winked at his father and helped the older man into the passenger seat. After settling in the driver seat he leaned over and planted a small kiss on his father's bald forehead. "But I love you anyway."

He winked to the smiling man, "I told you not to come out to field anymore. I'm strong and experienced enough to handle this alone. You, Dad, should stay at home and try to relax a little. That old back of yours isn't gonna get any better if you don't."

The man looked to his son and frowned, "You calling your dad old?"

Duo chuckled, "Don't worry Pop. Your still the boss."

Mr. Maxwell looked to his smiling son as Duo carefully rode down the broken road. It had been exactly thirteen years ago that his wife had died leaving him with their only child. Duo was a very beautiful young man. Though his skin was not smooth and pale, but tanned and peeled from the constant heat of the sun, his beauty was more pure and radiant than that of virtue itself. His long brown hair, which he always wore in a braid, accented his delicate almost feminine facial features. His large, expressive violet eyes could never lie. And his life radiating personality made him loved by all people he ever met.

He was raised a poor farmer boy. Even though the work on the farm was very stressful, Duo had never complained to his father. He worked hard in the field gathering what little money he made to keep the farm and support his aging father. Duo could not be more grateful for such a loving parent, and would do anything to make his old man happy. But besides his love and compassion towards his father, the young farmer brought life everywhere he went. Everywhere Duo went there was laughter. People found it very easy to radiate towards his personality. Especially women. He was greatly admired by many women. His firm body was every woman's dream, in the lower class at least. But though Duo had gotten many invitations, he never thought of settling down. He couldn't afford to leave his father with all the work and think of starting a family. They were too poor to do that anyway.

"I'm going to the city tomorrow. It's about time that I drop off all the carrots and milk. Is there anything I need to buy?"

Duo's sudden speech startled the old man out of his daydream. After a moment of thought, as reality sank back in, he responded.

"No. There is one thing though, Duo."

Duo had arrived at their old home. It was a petite wooden cottage. A small barn to the left kept the few cows and pigs that they owned, and a chicken coop was towards the back of the house. The young farmer helped his father out of the cart, and hoisted the milk cans onto the back seat.

"I heard from someone that the King is holding au~"

"Auditions for a man to guide the King-to-be." Duo interrupted as he allowed his dad to enter the house first.

"And you think that I should try out for it when I go to the city tomorrow."

The young man poured two glasses of milk and handed one to his father settling on the other side of the table.

"Dad, you know better than that. I'm not going to try out for it."

His father looked up at him sadly. Duo winced, he hated to see his father disappointed.
