Poetry Reading at the Art Gallery

Kevin Mikles

.

Tiny breads on a polished silver platter

accompanied by spreads and cheeses that catch my eyes and stomach.

yellow-speckled crab dip, warm to the tongue

chocolate and lemon tarts, as tasty as they are colorful

and strangely delicate.

pitchers of icy water to cool the throat of literary talk

and skateboard thinking

i'd like to grind down the benches by the art

my thick trucks could take the heat of this cultured environment.

or maybe you'd prefer the tropical punch

or the fresh coffee?

i stack my glass tea plate full of crackers and tarts

a fine dinner this makes as folks raise their eyebrows while

speaking of frost and whitman.

the spinach dip was very fine.

the poetry was pretty good, too.
