Benedict was born as a noble in 480 AD. The world in which he lived was similar to ours as it also faced uncertainty. In his youth he understood the dangers of engaging oneself in the pleasures of this world and retreated into the peace found only in God. However, the way towards it was not easy as he faced the pressures of human frailty and corruption. Resolved to unite himself with God, he overcame these and passed into eternal joy witnessing the greatest of human attributes, love.
