Answer by: Anthony
1. Hello Anthony! how are things going?
Anthony: HI!!!!!!!! Things...are...WONDERFUL! Except my computer seems to have something terribly wrong with it. Just got back from our Rape Camp...there are a ton of young victims that have all the talent in the world to be great groupies/or trade items in the future.
2. Can you give us a brief history of the band?
Anthony: Yes I can! But really we are all just poor metal heads that love gore/horror flicks and smoking reefer/taking bee pollen and making music. We started out in 2003 just for fun DOH and I recorded 3 songs in a very crude manner, sent them around to friends, one "friend" at that time is now a piece of shit, but he signed us to his label and we worked with him for a while. Long story short we left that french piece of shit and moved on to bigger and better things with much better music. Throughout that time we had several line up changes, and even a genre change as we went from grind to death. We were all busy with other projects at that time so Womb Raiders was more of a side project that stole the show as Womb Raiders is bigger than the other bands that we were all involved/still invovled with then.
3. Can you tell us why you chose Womb Raiders as a
bands name? Do you think it fits well to your musick
style?
Anthony: Well the name Womb Raiders has more than one meaning. It's got its own private meaning to the members of the band, and then there is the more public meaning which people came up with on their own which is commonly either thought of as raiding a womb in terms of rape, or raiding a womb in terms of aborting a child, or even just disemboweling someone. The band though started off as a joke so the name was meant to make people laugh, now that it has gotten serious we feel the name is just as effective since it offends most people, just as our music does, so yes it goes along nicely I think.
4. What are your musical and non - musical influences?
Anthony: Well musical influences are of course Impaled, Exhumed,Disgorge, Aborted, Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet under, Anal Blast,Abba(yes the roller disco band), Anal Cunt, Mortician, Death, and several others that people list all day long. Non musical of course
would be our families, and friends. Doh and I watch a lot of Gore/Horror films and b movies. Romero, Dawn, Argento, Fulci, and Hooper are all big influnces on us as their movies have shaped us into the gore loving bastards we are. Jay on the other hand likes a lot of
movies about flowers, and butterflies...but I guess that messed him up in a different yet effective way:) Also we have to acknowldge Spongebob for all of his contributions. Hunter S. Thompson had a profound influence on me, as did J.R. "BOB" DOBBS, and my great
friend/Co-Owner of the infamous Learn Skills Necropedophilia (LSN) drug cartel Paul Thompson, as we spent many a hours playing violent video games,selling/using hashish and other drugs, and spewing out Cannibal Corpse/Six Feet Under lyrics as young adults.
5. How is "Torn from the womb" doing? Are you happy
with the way it turned out?
Anthony: Well we have continued to update it everytime we think it sounds cool, we post some songs and get reviews back, and post some stuff on homerecording.com and other production sites and get ideas on how to make the sound come out better. So the current mixdown that we have online sounds 100 times better than the album we sent out just a month ago. But that is the same with the version that we do not have online right now. That version which we are calling the final version(with some luck the LAST final version) blows the shit we have online away. I think overall I am happy with the way it turned out. I know that the music has gotten a lot better, and the 2nd guitar is awesome. I just hope that our hard work doesn't go un-noticed and some of the people who get ahold of it like it as well.
6. Have you started contacting labels or any label
shows interest?
Anthony: We have signed with Symphonic Blast Productions.(www.symphonicblast.com) they've been great so far, and the plans we have for our next album are great. They're bringing us to malaysia to be one of the headliners on the extreme assult fest in june 2006. As the ethnics might say...Much love goes out to Kia, and Tiong!
7. You guys still use drum machine. Have you
completely given up the idea of having a real drummer?
Anthony: No not at all. For some reason drummers we've worked with just seem to not be able to keep up, or they dont show up when they need to.We are trying out drummers now though. There are a few trying out and we should have one very soon, by our next show.
8. How do you go about writing musick? How much time
you spend to write a song?
Anthony: Well Grave Slave, and Sick Needs I wrote the lyrics while Jay was messing around with riffs and we had some drums loops made so the plan was to kind of improv the songs just to get a feel for it. We
recorded it as a reference tool, but we only did the one take on each song and we thought it was great. The other songs together took about a week to write. Doh and I write so many lyrics we have at least 100 songs between us that we can mold into something and get a decent song out of.
.
9. You've done split releases with bands like
Vesuvius, Daughter of Lust, Speculum... What do you
think of all the bands that shared releases with you?.
Anthony: Vesuvius is an awesome band, as are the other two. Daughter of lust is a doom/death band from germany. There is another one from the us so we want to make it clear this is the german band we worked with. But they are all good in their genres of music, and we appreciate having known, and worked with them.
10. Which band/s would you absolutely love to do a
split? I heard you guys will be having a split with
Malignancy...
Anthony: Yes, Malignancy are great! We look forward to that split when it finally happens in 2006 a great deal. We are also talking to disgorge mex about doing a live split, and the one I look forward to
the most is one we will do with our heros Intense Hammer Rage!
11. You use samples on your song. What do they mean to
Womb Raiders?
Anthony: Well most of them we thought were funny so we put them in. Looking back we feel we should have used different samples in certain places but for the most part we think they fit well.
12. Can you tell us about "Decimation of the diseased
womb"? How was the new demo sounds compared to your
old releases?
Anthony: Well this demo is the first recordings of our recent songs plus a few bonus rare tracks. The production was very thin, however it kind of adds to the whole sound as it makes some songs sound evil. The bonus track of Torn From The Womb is a great song with shitty production. However the great Leon Del Muerte does some great riffs on the song and I butcher it with my rahmer inspired (yet terribly done) vocals. We thought we would throw in some old stuff just for our old grind fans who miss us being grind.
.
13. What are your lyrics about? Are they important to
the band?
Anthony: Our lyrics range from rape/abortions/murder. They are important to us, and I think people who are tired of bands who will not tackle these subjects love it as well. We know our lyrics will offend alot of people, since we don't care if people get offended it doesn't bother us. People act like its a big deal that they wont buy our stuff because it's offensive. I refuse to sell our music to certain people, most of the time I tell them right off the bat that our stuff is not for them and it will only piss them off, which for some reasons makes them want to buy it more. And what shocks us is that women and blacks are really into our music. We're even listed in the Urban Dictionary ..m/
14. In your own words, how would you like to describe
Womb Raiders musick?
Anthony: Brutal and Obscene death/gore metal.
15. Please give us your thoughts on the following:
Anthony:
* Bathory- a great band that deserves more respect than they're given. One of the bands that got me into metal.
* Exhumed- in my opinion one of the greatest bands around today, and all great guys, that we're proud to call friends!
* Obscuridad- ha....they did make quality shirts...not bad guys, but not all that smart either. Good music.
* Lordgore- I love the music, spoken with a few of the members and theyseem like cool guys. Would like ot hang out and jam with them some time.
* Cradle of Filth- I was once a fan, and know/knew them. I honestly have nothing against the band, however I hate Dani Filth. People who know the history understand...those who don't..lets just say it's not pretty. I'll be happy to explain ot anyone who asks, but I dont want to subject everyone to such dirty things.
* Whores- I'm fine with them as long as they don't press charges!
* Necrophilia- Typical saturday night....
* Tomb Raider- Angelina Jolie is a hot bitch. I don't mind watching those tits bounce as she shoots people. Other than that..a pretty shitty movie.
16. Ever fucked a corpse?
Anthony: I'm not sure about the statute of limitations on necrophilia,so in a word YES!..in two words YES YES!
17. Hows it like to fuck a corpse?
well the corpses...some are good others are not
so good. I like to think that their personality in
death is much like it was in life..so the good fucks
are often the ones that I like to think of as sluts or
ex porn stars..or just horney chicks that no one cared
about while alive. Unless you're a fan of "rough
riding" you will need lube...baby oil works great, as
does the ky, but with the baby oil you get that
warming sensation. Sometimes though if that is not
available you are forced to use roach guts, or
whatever insect is there. Just grind them up a little
bit and then spread it on per your own taste on
wetness. Doh likes to not grind up the insects but
let them live still. I likes maggots in the pussy
massaging him...but to each their own I say. ..m/
18. Other than metal, are you into any other type of
music?
Anthony: I like Johny Cash a lot. I wouldn't say im a country fan, but the man in black is a hard man not to like. I also like NIN, the doors, hendrix, a bunch of 60's-70's music, gta vice city got me loving
80's music again. I also like classical music, and even some blues and jazz. I spent several years as a child learning to play the sax, and classic piano. One day I might make it a point to throw those into womb raiders and do a burzum style song that doesn't make any sense, but I'm so rusty now that I would have to jam a bit on both to be half way decent.
19. What's the scene like in your place? Any local
bands you dig and what's it like to live in a place
like California?
Anthony: It's good and bad. Lots of great bands here but most of them are lazy, or can't afford to play. Places here like to make you pay to play or they make you do free shows since "metal isn't a draw" despite that being proved to be a lie. As long as there are bands willing to play for a six pack or free drinks and nothing more venues will continue to fuck over bands. Vesuvius, Army Of Darkness, Gang Raping Nuns, Accion Terrorista, Death In Progress, Gutsaw, and Desolate are friends of ours or bands that we like that are local to our area. Cali is a cool place to live, there are a lot of fake peole here, but thats the same everywhere you go. I think this is a great state, with some great music, and lots of hot women who like metal :D
20. Thanks for answering all of this... Anything you
would like to add?
Anthony: Thank you for doing the interview with us. We appreciate all of our supporters, and we love spreading our shit to everyone. So thanks goes to all who reads this, and even more thanks go to all who
listen to our stuff.
