1. Hey Sep, I hope all is well with you man. Tell us about Existential Obliteration and how it all started.
Hey Jamie, all is great with me man, thanks for asking. Although i've been busy as fuck lately, dealing with school and other obligative shits I have to keep up to. Well Existential Obliteration, started formally, when a friend who is into supporting the local underground scene asked me if I would be interested in doing an artwork for Human Mastication (cheers Gee! hehe). Since I used to draw some sketches, and is into the type of music that goes with the offer, I agreed on the spot. And that was it, Existential Obliteration was born.
2. Tell us why you have chosen Existential Obliteration as name. Do you think it fits well to your drawing style?
Well I've always considered myself being an existentialist, and since I liked the name to be a personal aspect of mine, I really needed to include it. As for the Obliteration part, I think it came out from eating too much lugaw. Hehe. I think if my drawing style would have a name, Existential Obliteration will fit perfectly.
3. How much time do you spend to mutilate an artwork? And please tell us some of the process on how you get your shit completed.
It depends on how much other things are waiting to be done by me. There is really no fixed amount of time a work will really be done. Another huge aspect is wether I'm in the mood for doing some art. I'm very moody when it comes to doing artworks. I think that's my weakness as an artist, and is doing a lot of work in overcoming it.
4. I think Existential Obliteration has been inspired a lot by the Mike Majewski, but with the 'cleaner' version. What inspired / influenced you the most when drawing?
Well I would be lying if I said that Majewski art is not a big influence of mine. ..ing in this particular genre of art, I really needed to look at some references basing my early artworks, and Majewski strikes me as the motherfucker of brutal art. But I really don't think that there is extreme similarity between his art and mine since we use different strokes. As for the inspiration, I really am at lost where and when it comes from.
5. Does your style cum naturally or did you have any formal training? And how long did it took you to develop your “own” style? Any artist you look up to?
I am really comfortable with my style at present, and would consider it as a natural inclination of mine. I had training formally, since I studied fine arts in a university for 2 years. Speaking of my "own" style I think I've had it since I started drawing, since I am not really great in imitating other artist's style, I really had to put my own brand into it.
6. At what age you started to spew out some artworks?
I think my mother told me I started drawing, or rather vandalizing our house, since I was 1.
7. What do you find so interesting about Horror and Gore? How about serial killers. Do you find them fascinating?
I think the human body is extremely fascinating, and its a shame if we would just expose the external parts of it. The insides is also beautiful, and I consider it a natural art. That's why I think gore is beautiful and is an art itself. Following that line of thought, I consider serial killers, who is really in for the delight of their deeds, is in that respect artists themselves.
8. Have you ever contemplated about how such serial killers feel about gore enthusiast such about yourself, using their twisted state of mind for lyrics and themes? Elaborate.
I have really no idea how those mother fuckers think. I'm really hoping to meet one soon. Hehe.
9. If you are to be a serial killer, who would you be and what sorts will your victims be?
If I would be a serial killer I'd not be anyone else. I would endorse my own murdering trademark, and mutilate my own style of obliteration. As for my victims, it will be the bourgeoise, since I think that they are really the sickness of society along with their values and ideologies. I would be doing culture a favor.
10. And how would you like to die??
Alone.
11. Existential Obliteration art are used and abused by Bands Like Human Mastication, Asphyxiate, and of course Guttural Sickness Zine! How did you get involved in this kind of scene? And how do you go about choosing on people to work with? So far what are the reactions like that you're getting from the scene?
Well, since the artwork for Human Mastication, it was really interesting how other people took notice of Existential Obliteration. The reactions were great, and it really helps me to know that other people out there have some positive opinions to what I do. Since I do brutal gore art, I really don't have to choose people to work with. The sick fuckers choose me. Hahaha.
12. I heard that you'll be mutilating art for the gods, LIVIDITY! How did you get in touch with these motherfuckers? :)
Yeah! It would really be an honor to do an artwork for Lividity, especially from the fact that I'm new to this kind of art. It started when Jamie, offered Manos of sewer zine some artwork. And since Manos knows Lividity, he reffered obliteration art on doing some artwork for them on using them as tshirt designs. They agreed and the rest is yet to come.
13. On your ejaculations, what's your personal favorite? Why? And what can you say about the bands that you've worked with?
I really don't have a particular favorite from my ejaculations, since I put my 100% in all of my artworks. I think the bands that I've met so far are great and it doesn't make me think twice in supporting them.
14. What severs you from other artist around?
I think what keeps me distinct from other artists is I don't strive to conform what particular subjects "should" look like. I think what makes an artist is to seperate his art from what things "must" be. I rather strive on being the own judge of my art, its mine anyway.
15. Apart from being mutilating sick art (fuck yes!) for bands/zines, what do you do for a living outside Existential Obliteration?
I'm a student at a university, and is simply living my life. I drink a lot of alcohol, sleep a lot, hang out with friends, and study. That's it. A typical life of a 22 year old in a third world country. Hehe
16. When did you first get into gore/splatter stuff? What is it about that got you so interested with this kind of smut?
I have always been interested in gore/splatter stuff ever since I could think straight. I think I have a natural inclination in finding something beautiful in what other people considers ugly or disgusting.
17. If you have an authority to implement a new law in the Philippines, what are those?
It would be the abolition of the ownership private property. Since this was the reason human societies came to be in this huge pile of shit anyway.
18. What's your current play list? What exactly is your favorite genre and why? Do you listen to non-metal stuff as well?
I'm listening to the new Carnivore Disprosopus and Human Mincer a lot lately. Of course my favorite genre would be brutal death since I really like the heaviness that goes with it. As for non-metal stuff, I'm not really into them, but I don't despise them either. I listen to some once in a while.
19. What was the most recent piece you were mutilating .. this interview? Do you have other planned stuffs before 2007 ends?
At the time being I just finished the artwork for sewer zine and is dead excited in starting the artwork for Lividity. Before 2007 I hope to finish my website.
20. Alright man, I don’t really have much more to ask, but I would like to thank you for taking your time answering these queries and thanks a fucking lot for mutilating the cover art!! I owe you some bottles of Emperador! Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Thanks for this interview Jamie, since I know how much difficulties you go through to come through with this stuff. I respect all the guys that do this type of things, that's one of the reason why I became a supporter of the underground scene as well. The achievement and fulfillment we get from doing so is much greater than money. Freedom with responsibility. Cheers!
