Hey Jamie, well things are all going okay with us man.
Can you give us a little background on the band and how you guys formed?
Oh sure man, well Down from the wound was originally formed by Me and Jep way back in the year 2001 and it all started in a small town called San Marcelino in the province of Zambales a three and a half drive northbound from Manila. The two other original members which is Jantzen on bass and Niño on vox are also from this place but the two of em aren't here anymore, Jantzen now is working in Dubai and Niño is now in America, he migrated there and I believe that he has no job there as of now yet just keeping himself busy smoking greener weed. We met Tristan (2002) in a gig in Olongapo a small progressive city just a forty five minutes ride from our place. He joined the group October of 2004, at that time we were having hard times searching for a bass player that's why we decided to play trio with no bass. December 2004 we have released "Durog na Mundo" split Cd with Dissimulate and after a few months our first self-titled demo fallows. Mid 2005 we invited Russell filing for bass but due to his lack of commitment, he was terminated in the pack. The band has to move on after Russell parted his ways, we have recorded 4 new fresh tracks and released it October of 2005 called Piercing through the veil of lies.
Can you tell us why have you chosen "Down From The Wound" as bands name? Do you think it fits well to your musick style?
Well, there is nothing much with the bands name man, Yes I think it fits very well with our music and style.
How was the response to your demo "Piercing through the veil of lies" Are you satisfied with the results and did everything go as you planned? If not, what would you like to have differently?
The demo is doing great man getting very good and awesome response. It receives a lot of good and honest reviews from local and international. Well, yes of course we were satisfied with the results from the lay out to the distribution and etc, but as far as the production is concern we were not so much content man. You know the demo goes a way too fucking raw, the guitar is too low and things that we were going to changed in the next release is the production itself man, we will make it more clearer that will define down from the wound own definition of modern death brutality.
Where have you recorded it and how do you go about writing musick?
We have recorded the drum track first at a rehearsal studio using a four track (Tascam) analog recorder and transfer it to computer. The rest, Guitars, vocals and bass are recorded using a computer and the mixing as well.
Jep will do guitar riff first and I also contribute some slamming riffs and we jam together till we create a good music and Tristan will do his part afterwards.
What are some of the band's strongest musical and non-musical influences at the moment?
Disgorge (USA) and Devourment is the band's strongest musical influence man.
Although I haven't read your lyrics, judging from your song titles on your demo, you guys aren't going for a typical gore/porn/splatter style, who writes the lyrics and what's the inspiration?
Tristan writes most of the lyrics man, and it is all about religion, serious moral and social issues that we perceive and experienced in our daily life man. These are the thing that has something to do in the life of every people.
What are your views about organize religions?
Well we don't consider our selves as part of any organize religion nor sect man. I have my own views regarding this shit and I choose to keep it within myself man.
One day, do you see yourself speaking about murder, rape and other sick stuff on your lyrics? For example, embalming a priest, nun being raped. stuff like that.. hehehe
Definitely no man!!! We will keep it the same for the lyrics and nothing will change.
Why have you chosen to inhabit on the issues of organize religion, social issues and the likes? Why not talk about flowers, stars, relationships, heartbreaks, sugar and spice and everything nice? =)
Hahaha!!! If we used to inhabit flowers, relationships, heartbreaks or whatever what will you call our style then? "Brutal death emo screamo" or "brutal death boy band"? Hahahaha!!! Where hell is this question came from man? Enough with it!!!
Because this is serious matter man, we just want to express our selves and we choose to use music as our tool by spreading the sickness in it.
And it has nothing to do with flowers or heartbreaks man, hahaha how about you, why not interview Mark Heras, Ping Lacson, Mike Enriquez, Patricia Javier, Orange and Lemons or Parokya ni Edgar man? Hahaha!!!
If you are to be a serial killer, who would you be and what sorts will your victims be?
If I'm going to be a serial killer, I'm going to be with my own and my victims will be all local zine editors man, and first in my list to kill will be Jamie Perez, and Anto chronicore will fallow so as Corix, Alex and many more, hahahaha!!!
And how would you like to die?
I don't know!!!
Back to your demo, your newest ejaculation "Mockery of the Truth" have a very different sound than your previous materials.. Any cumment on this?
I don't see any big difference in it man, fast technical tunes still remains and we just incorporate much more slammin' and breakdown parts.
Are you guys now in the process of mutilating new materials? Any other releases planned besides the "Down from the wound/Pus Vomit split CD"? And how would you describe "Piercing through the veil of lies" compared to your previous releases?
Yes we just recently finish one and still arranging another one.
There's been talked about split with surgery as for now but I still don't know when will it be going to materialize I'll keep you posted.
Comparing Piercing through the veil of lies from previous releases, the new one is more brutal of course, and our musical preferences has evolved and we never impede to go far in the most brutal. Our song writing capabilities has full grown compared from the previous and together with it is our passion and dedication to our music.
What about live ejaculation? How would you describe DFTW's on stage?
Head banging neck breaking sickening performance to the most fucking extreme!!!
What is like being a death metal in your place? How do people normally react to your musick? I believe there's a lot hot women on your place. Hehe...
Nothing much in our life being in a death metal band man, we live normal as other people lives.
Well of course "outsider people" would normally react pessimistic in our music but people who are into this kind of music will normally react absolutely fine.
Yes there are lots of women here man, I know you got to see bunch of them when you were here.
Give us your thought on the following:
*Berdugo Records - distributed piercing through the veil of lies worldwide, we owe Alex a lot. Thanks man!!!
*Berzerker 52 - oldskul guttural Blood upon Tristan
*Dissimulate - I really don't know what happened to them man, hope things will be all fine with them.
*"Durog na Mundo" - grind the world
*Kalawang zine - local zine
*Mud - fuck jerk
*Rural Carnage - Hope to see roel again soon
*Urban Assault - what is this man?
*Russell (Dissimulate) - use to play bass for Down From The Wound, How cum it didn't work?
He cannot give his 100% time for the band that is why the band didn't work with him.
What would be the essential qualifications if a certain bassist would try out for the band?
Not really essential qualifications man, as long as that he is at this same shit and wanted to do the same thing with us. And I know it is impossible to find someone like that here in our place. Dedication is also important and of course his musical ability to go along with the acrobatic riffs of Jep.
How would you describe the musick you're playing?
Brutal, Sick, Guttural as fuck to cut Pope Benedict XVI throat and leave him dead till his body rot.
How do you think of the Philippine Underground scene will be like in the cumming 5 years?
It will become bigger and hope that gig/fest organizers can easily invite foreign bands to play here in our land.
What's your current play list (local and foreign), favorite new bands etc.?
Pus Vomit, Orchidectomy, Devourment, Jasad, Rest in gore, Corpse Carving, Despondency, Cinerary and Disgorge destroy the speaker of my personal computer almost everyday man.
Thanks a lot for your time doing this interview brother, Best luck with the band.. I am personally looking forward hearing more sickness from you guys. Any last cumments?
We will gonna be entering studio again sometime this summer to record new fresh brutal shits, visit http://www.myspace.com/downfromthewound or email me at [email protected] to keep you posted.
