Devoured Flesh Regurgitation Interview

Question by: Alan
Answer by: Glenn

1. Hi Glenn!, how you doin' bro? Can you give us some history about DFR (Devoured Flesh Regurgitation).

Hell-o Alan, i'm doing fine i guess thank you. Well the story of D.F.R.starts in 2003, when our basplayer, our drummer and i stopped with our former band called Cannibalism and started as friends a Goregrind band called D.F.R. . We first had a vocalist called Rob, but he left the band after some musical differeces. After Rob, Geert joined the band and we recorded a demo in 2003. A very raw one, i don't like our demo. In 2005 we recorded a new promo with six(sixsix) new songs on it. Meanwhile in the time from 2003 till now we did tons of gigs we cool bands like: Regurgitate, S.C.D., Gruesome stuff relish, Fubar, LDOH, Yacopsea, Gronibard, Blockheads, Rompeprop and so on... We recently recorded a full-lenght album but it still has to come out. We didn't we record that much. But we don't like putting out a album every month or whatever. We like to do it our way, when we want it and when we feel like. That's the way to keep it fresh i guess.

2. Devoured Flesh Regurgitation, is truly a gut spewing name. Who and what came up to you guys in naming this band?

hahaha To tell you the truth, on a sunday afternoon i listenend to a Carcass record and i came up with the bandname Devoured flesh regurgitation, although it's not from there lyrics hehe. It's just a brutal name for a brutal goregrind band. I guess when i now must come up with a cool bandname it's gonna be like : I love beautifull flowers or something like that hahahah. No, but the bandname it's just a name, it means nothing, for us it's all about the music.

3. Your six track demo is a sick one man, do you have any problems recording it?

First of al thank you. No we had no problems at all with the recordings of the songs. We rehearsed the songs so much that it didn't go wrong. We had alot of fun recording these tracks. We used beer to get in higher levels, to seperate the body from the mind. That's why the promo is soooo blasting and Grinding.

4. Do you have any plans on recording a full length? Or any up cumming splits instead?

Hell yeah we recorded a full lenght. The recordings are done, only the mastering and the mixing has to be done. We recorded like 28 songs orso and there gonna be 24 songs on the album i guess. We are proud to announce that Grindhead records is gonna release our album. The album is gonna be called: Bones, flesh and partysnacks. More i don't want to say about it. Just wait until this grinding monster will crush you.

5. Who were the current line-up of DFR this time?

Ruud(basplayer) Bas(drummer) Geert(pitchshifting vocals and screams) Glenn( guitar and grunts and shouts)

6. What are your musical and non-musical influences these days?

Well i have such a large taste of music. But the influences for D.F.R. are a simple mix of: Regurgitate, Dead infection, L.D.O.H., Napalm death and Terrorizer. But what i listen is alot to give you a little idea what i listen is: Slayer, Exodus, Tool, Cannibal corpse, Brutal truth, Warsore, Queens of the stone age, Turbonegro, Zeke, The Dwarves, Candy snatchers, Morbid angel, Testament, The Haunted, My minds mine, Fubar, Blood i bleed, Nasum, Soilwork, Destruction, Righteous pigs, Rompeprop, Misfits, Neurophatia, Rot, Arch enemy, Birdflesh, Dropdead, Bile and even Deep purple and stuff like that.

7. It states at your site that DFR was once a deathmetal before called Cannibalism, what made you change your style into goregrind?

Back in 2003 i saw Last days of humanity and Rompeprop live in a little bar called Soos Plock. The gigs of those bands blew my mind away and also my friend Bas and Ruud. So together we started D.F.R. . We took an other name, from Cannibalism to D.F.R. because of the musical change.

8. There are lots of bands in the Netherlands, and most of it are into goregrind styles. Is this really a trademark of your country? hehehehe

hahaha No i don't think it's a trademark from our country. Maybe there are also allot of Goregrind bands in the US but aren't good enough hahahah no just joking Alan. But yeah we have a healthy scene. Not only Goregrind bands like Rompeprop, L.D.O.H.(rip), Cliteater and D.F.R. but also Grind/Crust bands like (one of my favorites) Fubar, Blood i bleed,Kru$h, Grindustry are doing a great job in our Dutch scene.

9. Can you give us some info about the scene in the Netherlands nowadays?

Yeah sure, We have a good healhty scene. There are lots of gigs with cool bands and the whole Dutch Grind scene is about friendship. A band like Rompeprop is very famous at the moment and there are touring alot, Cliteater also and Fubar rips every squat in europe. D.F.R. don't plays every week but we like it that way. But we love doing shows. A D.F.R.show is totally wild. Also we have here 2 cool Grindfests called Bloodshed fest and Op volle snoeren.

10. Do you have any upcumming shows or tours? What can we expect about DFR in the near future?

Well in September the 2th we play in Belgium and hopefully we play more gigs later this year, but we'll see. What you can expect from us in the near future is hopefully as i said more gigs. We started to make new songs, so maybe some recordings. But i don't now, we'll see what;s gonna happen. If we feel like doing something we will do it, soooo.

11. Geert have also run a Urethra Records isn't it? Do you have any problems conducting a rehearsals or maybe recordings on DFR?

No, it's just planning everything the right way. Geert has also alot of projects. We all have projects exept for our drummer. Geert plays in: Faeces eruption, Acrtomwkeljdlq(whatever),D.F.R., Gangrene and we also has a project with me and a drummer from the Madeliefjes it's an old school Grindcore project but we did;nt have a name for it. Ou basplayer Ruud plays in D.F.R. and a Rock 'n Roll project called Scumbags. I (glenn) play in D.F.R. and i also play with Ruud in Sumbags a Rock 'n roll band like Zeke, I play in the Grindcore project together with Geert, and i just recently stopped playing in a Death/Thrash band called Relentless assault. So that's alot, but it's just about planning things the right way. I love making music, i also think it's good to have some other musical projects it keeps your mind fresh.

12. Thanks for the time bro.. Spit out your last words. Stay sick and keep it fucking brutal...

First of all i like to thank you Alan, for the interest in D.F.R. . Cool you spread the word of Grind. Keep it up, keep on grinding.Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
