BORN TO BE CHEAP
One thing that's been evident in life, the universe and everything is, that in this modern day and age there's a district lack of sleaszy glam rock'n'roll bands. However, in recent years the Backyard Babies and Hardcore Superstar have emerged from Sweden, and apparently there is a scene there. So it would there for be likely that if i got a sleaszy glam rock'n'roll demo, it'd be from Sweden. What do you think of when you think of Switzerland? Ski slopes? Cheese? Swiss Gold? All very likely and stereotypical. You're not likely to think of Sleaszy Glam Rock'n'Roll, are you? But that is precisely what the Gutter Queens are. A Swiss Sleaszy Glam Rock'n'Roll band. And if that's surprise 1 then surprise 2 is, that they are amazing! Better than a large portion of glam bands. Ever. Playing their self-styled sleaszy slut-rock. It's time to dig out your feather-boas, over do it with the hairspray, splatter on your make-up and pretend that the whole glam scene never went underground. They fill bigger venues then some signed bands can manage (how many unsigned bands have you heard about HEADLINING to 1'500 people?). Anyway, what's the music like? Pre-warning, it's sold-out, but you can download 4 of the 10 tracks from their website and i'm sure if you really wanted a copy you could come up with some deal with them. Oh yeah, the music, the music! The music is everything you could want, and a bit more! Taking influences from the likes of the New York Dolls and Hanoi Rocks, they transform these influences and make them their own. There's the warp speed rock'n'roll of songs like "Juvenile Dream", "Little Suzy" and "Fire" and slower sleaszy romps of "Lost in Time" and the drink-a-long "Hey"-song "Freddy West". The whole thing is neated perfectly, it's everything you want, the production is good, but not polished so that it spoils the feel, the essence is captured just right. Definitely a band that can not only blow away their rivals, but their influences too! (10) |
