Max the Hammer pt. 1
· A re we rolling? Okay, good. Welcome to Max's five minute show airing live from Max's brain. Now today's topic is freedom. Everybody has it, everybody was b orn with it, yet some people waive their freedom for something called security. With me here today is Doctor Max, head of the department of Max's common sense. Good evening doctor, how do you fare this lovely evening?
· I fare well, thank you.
· Now doc, you're here today to talk to us about freedom versus security. Is one better than the other and what can we do to ensure both our freedom and our security are safe from evil?
· That's a loaded question there, Max. Let's break it down piece by piece. Freedom is something that we all have and we are born with it. It is something intangible that nobody can physically take away from us.
· Ah, but can it not be taken away from us by the law?
· Yes, and that is where the problem lies. People have the tendency to believe that anything that is made in writing is true, which is why the law is so highly valued and respected. Governments are stripping away our freedoms one by one in the name of national security.
· Can it not be said that since it can't be taken away that we are free no matter what the law says? So is there any reason to object these laws?
· I see where you're gong with this. Well, these types of laws are passed for reasons beyond our capability to argue. The government can basically do what they want and no one can stop them, especially if the main reason for these laws are for national security. Who would argue about that? But let's think about this for a second. What are they really doing? Writing something down on a piece of paper in order to boost security. In essence, they are not taking away our freedoms at all, but merely granting us security.
· But it takes a lot of money to do this.
· Yes, and that's the problem. Where are they getting this money from? They are diverting much needed funds from schools, hospitals, community programs (things that we truly need) in order to fuel this war on an invisible enemy. They are taking money out of our future and putting it towards our present. Basically, the government is stealing from our children. It's like emptying out their college funds to gamble in Vegas.
· Doctor Max, isn't it safe to say that our present is much more important to us than our future? I mean, what if terrorists decided that right now, our present, they want to use powerful weapons to destroy populations in large cities?
· Our future is more important and I'll tell you why. When or if this event you describe were to occur, who is going to be there on the scene to protect, help heal, counterattack, evacuate people, or douse the flames? Not your uneducated, ill, crack heads for children. Education and healthcare should be top priorities of the government. In fact, it is in their best interest to have highly-skilled professionals on their side. Fluxing money into community programs is a good place to start.
· So are you saying that we should use our brains rather than our brawns?
· Precisely. What good is an army if you can't outsmart the enemy on all fronts?
· Isee your point. So for the viewers out there watching at home, would you say that when compared to freedom, security is secondary in importance?
· Exactly. Freedom keeps our options open. It's like a game of chess, you don't want to trap your king with your own pieces. And you don't have to castle right away, and by that I mean raise security.
· Just a minute ago you said that this security was a good thing because the government can't actually take our freedoms away from us.
· Well you can disobey the government, but this being a police state that would be unwise. My point is that there are many better uses for this money than a war. Fighting a war to attain peace? Impossible.
Well that's all the time we have for today's program. I want to thank Doctor Max for giving up his time to be here today. Tune in tomorrow for another informing show. Good night.
