Think of him as a philosopher. He was an asshole, in modern terms.

The only thing he did was saying: "Love each other"

But he also said:

Nobody should marry after the death of his/her spouse because that is adultery
The one that sees a woman and desires her, is commiting adultery
Sex is just for procreation, if you enjoy it, that's a sin


I can't remember right now but I know he (we assume) said other pretty stupid things.
