14th May 1998 Daily Mail and Daily Express revealed that Neil is seeing Marie Helvin and has been for a short while. They arrived separately at a party for the new musical Rent; she was on the arm of Salman Rushdie. The attraction was obvious, lots of touching and whispering, and they left together in a taxi. In the Daily Express a 'friend' said that Neil was concerned about Marie's reputation as a 'good time' girl, and was serious about his political views. Personally I don't see why enjoying yourself makes you superficial but that was the subtext.
In 1stJuly 1998 Hello magazine we get the first picture of the two of them attending a social function together. They posed for piccies (see above) at the premiere of the new Harrison Ford movie Six Days and Seven Nights. Which is crap, apparently.
In 11th July 1998 Now! magazine there is another piccie of them sharing a joke at Vivienne Westwoods Perfume launch party.
In 6th August 1998 Daily Mail Neil is reported to have dumped Marie! Quick worker eh?
On 8th May 1999 Marie and Neil appear together as a couple at the TV BAFTAs, broadcast on 19th. Pictures follow in Hello! (No 561, May 25) and TV Times (22-28 May edition). So its back on!
