A Sad End to Train Naming
Circus?!
| Latest
on This Circus! Updated 5th April 2002 Our
Well-wisher Mr K.R.Panicker informs us now that
the train is named after Rabindrannath Tagore and
SWAMI Chinmayanandan, according to the Railway
Site!

Here is an edited photo of the page

So that's what the Railway says! If you read
the earlier news below, Minister O Rajagopal first
claimed that it is after Sree Narayana Guru and
later in the High Court "©J±z ¨si¢v©l oph±É¢ H.

The Govt and the Minister
didn't have the backbone to admit what the
Railway says on the web. Basically the Govt and
the Minister are big liars, which is nothing
unusual in today's India!
Guruforum
denounce such backbonelss stand and also
questions the silence of the so-called SNDP
leaders on the issue. Forum doesn't care at all
even if the train is named after a smuggler in
Bombay, but strongly oppose the unnecessary
dragging of Guru's name into dirty stunts by the
Politicians and the boot-lickers of Godmen! çµdwÎdLß

Earlier News:
Recently Union Government did a stunt: Named a
train Gurudev Express and minister O Rajagopal
claimed that its after Sree Narayana Guru! Some of the
Shivagiri crowd and SNDP guys hailed the action without
bothering to see that Gurudev in Bengali is referring to
Tagore (the train is going to Calcutta). There has been
some requests from SNDP related guys to rename the train
as Sree Narayan Guru Express. O Rajagopal openly said
that everyone knows Gurudev is Narayana Guru!!
Guruforum always opposed such political stunts. The
great reformer Narayana Guru does not need any cheap
support from the third class political parties and
ministers. We oppose such moves. Guru's message is
totally forgotten and the whole masses are resorting to
cheap rituals, miracles, godmen and third class
politicians for salavation! Such a debacle can only be
solved by hard work and understanding.
Now Kerala Rationalist Association
filed a suit in High Court against this nonsense. Union
Govt shameless gone back on their earlier proclamations
and now says that the trains are not named after any
particular person! This stand, obviosuly, was to escape
from the Constitutional problems arising out of the case.
Here is the news report on this in English and Malayalam.
HC
dismiss PIL on train naming
(Kaumudi Online 14.8.2001)
KOCHI: The
Kerala High Court yesterday closed a public Interest
Litigation (PIL) preferred by the Kerala Rationalist
Association against the naming of two trains as
"Gurudev Express" and "Amrita
Express" in the light of a statement filed on behalf
of the Union Govt and the Railway Ministry.
The statement said that the trains were not named after
any individual living or dead. The petitioners contended
that naming of trains after individuals were
unprecedented and against the declared policies of the
Railways and spirit of the Constitution. Naming of the
recently started Nagercoil-Howrah Express as
"Gurudev Express" and Palakkad-
Thiruvananthapuram daily express, as "Amrita
Express" was arbitrary, they argued.
The govt statement explained that the Howrah express was
named as "Gurudev Express" as a mark of respect
to Acharyas and the second train was named as
"Amrita Express" after the word
"Amrita".
A division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice P K
Balasubrahmanyam and Justice M Ramachandran said in the
light of the statement, the contention of the petitioners
was devoid of any merit.
