Swami Saswathikananda drowns in
Periyar River

regrets to report that Swami Saswathikananda, former head
of the Sivagiri Mutt at Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram,
drowned in the Periyar River at Aluva on the morning of
1st July 2002. He was 52. Swami was swept away while
taking bath at the Adwaitashram Ghat. He had come from
the state capital to take part in the meeting of the Sree
Narayana Dharma Sangh. Fire force personnel fished out
the body from the river and rushed to the Aluva
Government Hospital. Later the body was brought back to
the ashram, where a post mortem had held.
