Guruforum Comments:

First of all, we congratulate the young poet Balachandran Chullikkadu for making this observation. Once upon a time untouchables ('Avarnar') had no entry to temples in Kerala. Vaikom Satyagraha and subsequent efforts gained that entry. Guru himself defied the establishment by installing deities (Ezhava Shiva and so on). The whole idea was the freedom of entry to a religious place and the right to worship and the right to install whatever deity.

Since independence, the rich and politically active (former) untouchables lost their balance. They started worhsipping not only the God at the temples, but also the corrupt organizers of the temples and similar establishments. The much achieved freedom is thus misused to wash the feet of the same establishment which tried to suppress us all these years!

In recent times, the son of a political leader was insulted by Guruvayoor Temple. The leader made some noise, but later this year, the father-in-law of the insulted bridegroom donated a Golden door to the same Guruvayoor Temple! Washing the feet of the poojaris there would have given this Liquor Baron more 'punyam'!!! Seems like sins including that of rich Ezhavas can be washed away by donating a small per centage of the looted money (looted from the poor using illicit liquor) to a temple!

Recently low-caste priests were insulted and sent back from Malayalapuzha Yagam!!

Several Ezhavas are now trying to become self-styled 'Brahmins' by performing Yajnas and Yagas!
