backyard fire in a giant wok

My last night in Atlanta. The goodbyes are pretty rough. We roast marshmallows in a backyard bonfire. Everything is bittersweet.

January 22, 2007

Today I got to meet Scott McCloud at a book signing here in Atlanta. He signed my copy of Making Comics. Yep, I'm grinning. As can be expected from his writing, he's a very likeable, down-to-earth, knowledgeable guy. Very cool and supportive family, too.

In other news, I've used Aptitude to install the remaining LAMP software on my Linux server. Gotta figure out how to configure it next. Doing this all remotely with a ssh session from Terminal on my Mac. Soon I'll try using gcc to compile a game. Yippee!

Life apparently goes on. One endures despite disappointments and fickle fate, traveling from one phase of life to the next. So, the newest excitement is the Ubuntu Linux server I've installed in my home network. There's something terribly sexy about a command line interface that I think I'll never get over. A mouse is so superfluous! Typing arcane commands at the cursor is as close to magic as I can conjure in this lifetime. Gentle taps on the keyboard, blinking, darkness, silence, response. cd .. ls vi, oh yeah. It's like time just stops when I'm communing with my machines. The next step now is to configure the rest of the LAMP components and start reviewing my old PHP lessons. This is white-hot fun, folks! My cup of tea! Yippee! So far my Panther and XP machines are playing nice together as well in this little corral I've made.

March 4, 2006 - Night of the Living Grad

zombie looking girl

Bloodthirsty somnambulists have been reported in the graduate dormitories, wreaking havoc and leaving a swath of destruction. Be forewarned that their rage is beyond reason and they must not be approached under any circumstances. Resident occultists assure administrators that undead activity generally recedes after the yearly ceremonies of pomp and circumstance in the days following Walpurgis. Black robes and mitred headgear are encouraged.

green glazed china style teapot

Egads! I haven't posted in quite some time. Let's see, to catch up, I got a job at a brass manufacturer, took some classes in the spring, stayed in Atlanta over the summer, and now it's time for classes again. Hence the need for increased caffeination. Here's my lovely new teapot to suit the purpose well.

experimental electronics project on my wrist

Here's the pulse oximeter that I built for Experimental Media class. Not bad for a newbie in electronics, huh? Currently it's just hooked up to a digital potentiometer circuit that makes the LEDs pulse slowly. Still have some programming to do to make it all functional.

November 16, 2004

It's close to the end of the term and things are getting intense now. Lots of projects to finish, things to organize. Between homework projects, I attended my first football game over the weekend, which was surprisingly fun.

Jeez. I've neglected posting for a month. Um, I kinda underestimated how many hours this whole grad school thing was gonna devour from my free time. The Java class is hard, but I'm really excited to be studying programming at last. I've had to put in a lot of hours figuring things out, but it's so satisfying to see that code on the screen when it finally works.

August 27, 2004

Well, I've finally posted a few RPG character drawings on the illustrations page. Still looks pretty sparse, though. If you have a character you'd like to see illustrated, send me a description. During my free time when I'm not building robots, or learning to write Java code, I need to beef up my portfolio. :)

Atlanta...sauna city. Man, it's hot here.

July 11, 2004

Well, my pencil's worn down to a mere nub, but I've still got three more episodes to watch to finish off Season 3. I've just posted four more drawings on the Buffy page for all five of my fans out there. :)
In the meantime, I'm off to DC for a week of humid vacationing.
