Rei Hino lives at the Hikawa Jinja temple with her grandfather and Yuuchiro. Her mother died during childbirth and her father is a politician who works abroad. At the temple she is studying to be a Shinto priestess. She is psychic and can tell the future through dreams or fire readings. She uses her Shinto powers to track down and fight evil. She is very strong willed and independent. She is a manga otaku, singer, songwriter, and a talented skier. Even though they are best of friends, Usagi and Rei get into a lot of fights. During the Silver Millenium she was a guardian of Princess Serenity, and the Princess of Mars.
Sailor Mars' attacks are Fire Soul, Fire Soul Bird, Burning Mandela, and Mars Flame Sniper. Some of her attacks use a scroll called an Ofuda which paralyzes evil with the chant "Rin, pyou, tou, sha, kai, jin, retsu, sai, zen. Akuryou taisan!"
