The Proper Modern Roleplayer |
- The 'Wrong' Way - |
Alot of modern Roleplayers do not understand the conditions that guns must be used in fights. They do it in a way that is unfair, undescriptive, and downright stupid. I call this the 'wrong' way. Of course, the term 'wrong' must be used loosly because to them, of course, their way is right. As an example, the 'wrong' way of doing things would be a simple post such as this: |
Rio De Dagama pulls out his pistol and shoots you. |
These are the kind of posts that make the proper modern roleplayer have a harder time getting any respect. When I'm writing this site, I'm writing it to defend people that dont Roleplay like this. If you see any posts similar to that, feel free to let hell on them. But dont generalize that all gun users do this. Now, I've seen some improvement in these 'wrong' posts, but only to the extent that they realize thats at auto. Example: |
Rio De Dagama pulls out his pistol and fires a shot at Ahmose's direction. |
Now, any fair Roleplayer can see the general improvement in that post. They do regard that they must give the furre a chance to dodge. However, this is far from the way that gun users should be accepted. |

- The 'Right' Way - |
Before I get into the meat and bones on this, read this folowing general example of a modern RP fight in my own style: |
Rio De Dagama coughs under his breath, looking about the room. He takes the moment to stare blankly into the gaze of his enemy, showing off a sinister grin. A few moments later, Rio sprints behind the wall behind him, gipping a hand on the .50 at his side as he does so [1/3] [The .50 is a semi automatic, clips hold 12 bullets. There is no saftey built into the gun. Bullets are standard, but Rio also owns other custom clips he sometimes uses] |

Lets take a look at this post. You'll notice, fist of all, that is a prep. A 3 turn prep at that. In real time, it would be physicly impossible to draw, load, and fire your gun before your enemy has a chance to do anything at all. Also, notice the description of the firearm being used. I usually dont add this to my posts, unless the enemy knows nothing about guns or they ask me to do so. In the post afterwards, I would probably have began to load my weapon while being covered by the wall. This would change, however, if the enemy has done anything to delay this action. Doing so would result in either dropping the weapon and abandoning the prep, or a longer prep time needed to deal with the threat. I dont think you'd need a full example on that, but lets take a look at the actual first shot: |
Rio De Dagama finishes snaping the clip into the weapon, keeping still behind the wall. After the weapon is loaded, Rio immediatly leans out, exposing only the top half of his body, and fires two aimed shots at his enemy. Should this be successful, he would retreat to his hiding place behind the wall and grip his second .50 [1/4] |
First, you should notice that this was not an auto. I fired at my enemy. This allows him some room to attempt a counter. Also, notice that these shots were aimed. I didnt fire randomly, nor did I take an hour to make sure I was going for a head shot. These bullets are headed in the general direction of my enemy. Its up to him about how he would go about defending, but that is a basic idea of the careful steps modern Roleplayers make |
