Hot r Not, Who Says Buffalo Isnt Hot This Time Of The Season

By Shannon Goodefellow......May 6th, 2003

Where else can you say Buffalo, Minnesota and
Pittsburgh are very hot at this point in the season?  The
CFHL and their play is whats hot, not the weather.  With
a 4-0-1 record it was an impressive week for Pittsburgh
with a win and a tie against Montreal.  Buffalo and
Minnesota were the teams to beat, but only St. Louis
could beat the North Stars and the Isles were the only
victors against the Sabers.  Also posting great records last
week were Boston, Chicago and Calgary, each with 4-2-0
records.

Not boding quite as well last week were the Rangers
and Washington.  Each had tough 1-4-1 records.  Their tie
was against each other and their losses were against some of the best teams in the league other than Washingtons 1-0 loss against Atlanta but both teams will need better performances if Washington plans on getting out of the basement and the Rangers plan to stay above .500.

They had decent weeks compared to the great Canadian north teams of Edmonton and the expansion Ottawa Senators.  Ottawa had its lone win in its 1-6-0 record against its fellow ice cold team while the Oilers managed a tie against a hot Minnesota team in its disappointing 0-6-1 week.  Its early but both these teams are out of a playoff spot in the Campbell Conference and will need to turn it around before long of they look to see hockey ice in the post season.  Ottawa has publicly expressed its displeasure at its attempt to take an expansion and make it competitive and is possibly now more concerned about the future then this season.  Time will tell if any of the cold teams can make a 180 and make up for lost opportunities.

Look next Monday see if your favourite team was able to be one of the hot teams of the week or at least avoid being as cold as the ice they play on.  The Good, the Bad and the Ugly every week on the Frozen Pond of the CFHL.
