Gungnir's Trains
Animal Series Engine
The animal series engines were built by Borsig, Berlin. The first ones were built in 1883. The HSM, another forerunner of the  Dutch national railroad NS, operated these small engines on branch lines, for all services.
Remarkable in the construction is the space between boiler and water tanks, and a door in the front panel. Since this type of engine was meant to be operated by just one man, this allowed for the train conductor to reach the engine cab and stop the train in case of emergency.
For my model, I just replaced the large wheels with the standard LGB engine block and wheels assembly from a cheap starter set KoF.
