| What do you need? Some balsa strips, scouring pads, paint, sand and flock. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Cut off a strip of scouring pad of the height you want your hedge to be. Chamfer a strip of balsa (slope the corners, so they're not so sharp), and glue your hedge on with plenty of white wood glue (PVA). Brush plenty of PVA over the rest of the base, and sprinkle with dry clean sand. Shake off when dry. |

| Paint your hedge. I took two very different greens, because I want the dark green to give it extra depth under the flock. You may want to take another shade. I used cheap semi-gloss enamels. Note: the flash makes the paint look shinier than it is in reality. |

| Treat liberally with PVA (hey, the stuff is cheap!), and put your flock on. You can carefully press it a bit extra into the glue. |

| When the glue is dry, sprinkle or spray the flock with diluted PVA (app. 10% glue and 90% water works fine for me) so the flock is kept in place better, and you can handle your hedge without losing all of the flock. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Again, the flash overdoes the contrast between the dark green paint and the flock, but then again, you can pick colours closer together if you want. Naturally, a hedge in autumn would be darker than one in spring. This is a simple method, and costs very little. Do give it a try! |
