The Black Spidey Suit or NOT the
Black Spidey Suit?
"Spider-Man 3" is still a year away, but
speculation over the third installment has been going
on since "Spider-Man 2" left the theaters.
Who are the villains? What's the black suit? Who's
Gwen Stacey? Well faithful readers, I'm here to dispel
the myths and answer some burning questions.

Who
are the villains in Spider-Man 3?
|
The villains in SP3 are the Sandman & (Maybe)Venom.
Harry Osbourne may make an appearance as the Hobgoblin
at the end of the film.

Who is the Sandman?
|
 The
Sandman is a classic Spider-Man villain that
has been around for ever. In SP3 the Sandman
will be played by Thomas Hayden Church from
the TV show "Wings" and the movie "Sideways."
The Sandman got his powers from a nuclear
explosion that showered him with radiation.
As a result, The Sandman has the ability
to transform into a malleable sand-like substance
which can be hardened, dispersed, or shaped
according to his will. He can increase his
size and mass to an unknown extent when in
sand-form by incorporating sand grains in
his vicinity into his body.
Sam Raimi, the director of SP3, promises
special effects that have never been seen
before, to get the effect of Sandman's powers. |

Who is Venom?

Sometime in the 80's, Marvel put out a mini-series
of comic books called "The Secret Wars" in
which an evil super-villain transported the Marvel
heroes and villains to another planet to make them
fight each other, like a big chess game. While on
this planet, Spider-Man came into contact with his
new "Black Suit." The black suit was able
to transform from the super hero suit into any other
clothes, simply by having Spider-Man THINK it. When
Spider-Man returned to Earth, all seemed well...
for a while.
The suit began doing things on it's own, and not
responding to Spider-Man's mental commands. Concerned,
Spider-Man thought out the help of Reed Richards, "Mr.
Fantastic" of the Fantastic Four. Upon examination,
Reed determined that the suit was alive, and potentially
dangerous. Reed was able to remove the suit from
Spider-Man, and place it in a holding container.
Months later, the suit escaped and tried to re-attach
itself to Spider-Man. Spider-Man defeated the suit
by using the high-pitched tones of a bell tower,
the suits weakness. Spider-Man assumed the suit had
died.
The suit, however, proved more resilient. It attached
itself to a man named Eddie Brock, who had a hatred
for Peter Parker. After the suit had attached itself
to Eddie, Venom was born, and has become Spider-Man's
biggest nemesis.
In the new movie, Venom, or Eddie Brock, will be
played by "That 70's Show" star, Topher
Grace. Since the "black suit" can assume
any shape, We can assume that most "Venom" shots, (if any),
in the movie will be computer generated.
The extent of all of this Venom history, included
in the movie, is not known.

Does Spider-Man wear the black suit in SP3?

Sony Pictures have released ONE picture of
Spider-Man in a "so-called" black
suit, but even this image does not confirm
anything. As you can see in this picture (to
the left), Spider-Man is perched on a building
in the rain. It LOOKS as though his suit is
black, but looks can be deceiving. Is the suit
black, or is Spider-Man just hanging out at
night? Perhaps the lack of light makes the
suit look "black", but in fact, in
may just be mood lighting.
Upon the release of
this press photo, fan-boys and photoshop
fakers have gone wild. There are several
fake images of a "black-suit" circulating
the internet, most, if not all, just clever
ruses. Remember, the "Black Suit" in
the comic books looked nothing like Spider-Man's
classic "blue and red" costume. |

Who else is in the movie?
|
Kirsten
Dunst will be in SP3, but she has expressed no interest
in returning for a fourth movie, and has said that
she wants to move on from the franchise.
In the Spider-Man comic books, "Mary Jane" played
by Kirsten Dunst, was not Peter Parker's first love
interest. Gwen Stacey was. The Green Goblin had kidnapped
Gwen, and taken her to a bridge. This scene in the
comic books was used in the first Spider-man film,
where the Green Goblin kidnapped Mary jane instead.
In the comic book, Gwen fared a bit worse
than Mary Jane did in the movies. In the comic book,
The Green Goblin drops Gwen Stacey from the bridge.
Spider-man tries to save her with his webbing, but
the force of gravity, along with velocity, causes
Gwen's back to snap when Spider-Man's webbing stops
her fall. Gwen dies.
However, the movies are a bit different. With Kirsten
Dunst leaving the series, a new love interest must
be introduced for Peter Parker. Enter Gwen Stacey.
The role of Gwen will be played by Bryce Dallas Howard,
red-headed daughter of Ron Howard, and star of "the
Village." Bryce had dyed her hair blond for
the role.
Harry
Osbourne found his dad's suit at the end of Spider-Man
2, but whether or not he will become the new Green
Goblin is still a mystery. In the comic books, several
people have donned the suit, and have become the
Green Goblin. In the comics, Harry does pick up the
mantle of the Green Goblin after his father's death.
However, rumor has it, that this might be confusing
for movie-goers. The solution? Harry becomes the
Hob-Goblin (another Spider-man villain from the comics)
instead of the Green Goblin.
There it is! All the answers to all the
Spider-Man questions. |
