Chapter 3
anything like this is someone thinking
Even without an alarm clock, Miwa woke up exactly at 5:00, the time that Dr. J had always taught her to get up at.
She looked around and saw that everyone was still asleep.
Jealous, Miwa let out a low moan, and then got up.
She was all ready to start her daily routine; shower, get dressed, eat, look at statistics of her next assignment... Wait! There were no more missions!
Miwa came close to smiling, but pushed it down.
Now she could make her own missions.
Mission #1 she thought to herself, turning to look at the awakening girls, ... keep these people amused until the pilots get here.
She moaned, discontent with even her own assignments.
The guests weren't completely awake yet, so Miwa decided to do something constructive in the meantime.
Grabbing her toolbox, she went to work outside of the room.
Relena cracked one eye open. She saw Miwa sit down on a crate, right next to a long, high-school-lunch table with all sorts of wires, computer chips, and excess metal parts on top of it.
So ... she even has her own workshop!
She watched as Miwa began putting some of the components together; taping the wires, and soddering them to the chips.
Relena smiled, ... Just like her father.
Suddenly Koko yawned and got up, walking over to the busy mechanic.
Miwa stopped soddering, "What do you want?" she asked simply.
"Ummm ...." Koko said as her stomach growled, "... do you have anything to eat?"
Miwa groaned, but Koko was too tired to hear it.
She got up from the desk, and walked over to get Koko some breakfast.
Grabbing some cereal, a bowl, a spoon, and the milk, Miwa set them on the counter and left.
Koko watched her go back to her work ... and then she followed her.
Miwa was just about finished connecting the green wire with the main chip, ... when she sensed a strange presence right behind her ...
Miwa looked up right into Koko's huge face, and almost jumped.
"What is it now?!"
"Umm ... " Koko backed away, " ... what are you doing?"
"Can't you see?! I'm creating a safe pathway from the power source to the control board so the main components don't overheat!"
"Oh ... " Koko scrached her head.
" ... You didn't really come over here to see what I was doing ... did you?"
The other girl smiled guiltily, "Well, no you see, ... well, ... Trowa usually always makes my cereal for me, and so I was wondering--"
But Miwa had already gotten up, storming to the kitchen.
She started cursing as she threw in some cereal and splashed on the milk.
"Thank you!" Koko smiled happily, with a sweatdrop.
Miwa stormed back to her work, mumbling something about disabled people.
Bad morning person Koko figured.
Hilde awoke, hearing the crackling of Rice Crispies.
"Cereal!" she screamed happily, running for the counter.
She tripped over Sally, waking her up.
Koko leaned over her food, protecting it from Hilde, "this is mine!"
"But I'm hungry! ... come on, lets share!"
"NO!"
Hilde managed to grab the bowl.
"No, Hilde! That's mine!" Koko grabbed the other side and they both pulled.
Miwa cringed at the sound of splashing milk and breaking ceramic, followed by two " ... oops."
Hilde made her own bowl.
But Koko was starting to go over to whine to Miwa.
Miwa reached for her gun but
Sally got up quickly, knowing that Miwa was on the verge to kill, "Err ... Here! Koko, I'll make you some."
Miwa was relieved ... She didn't feel like killing anyone today ... yet.
Soon the rest were up, but unlike the already energized Koko and Hilde, the rest of the girls needed a separate energy source: coffee.
They began searching futilely for that round can of Foldgers they loved so much.
Miwa again felt a strange presence behind her.
She turned around to find three, living-dead people staring back at her.
"Now what?" Miwa growled.
"Um, Miss Yuy, ... might you have any coffee in your house?" asked Dorothy, trying to use charm to cover her morning-zombie-like looks.
Miwa growled even more, and gave a death-glare, causing even Dorothy to shrink back.
" ... Did you check behind the coffee maker?"
All three blushed.
Miwa looked about ready to kill. She clicked the safety off her gun.
Sally decided to make a quick getaway, "Well, thank you! no need to bother you anymore! Come on, Dorothy, Relena!"
Dorothy complied readily, zooming into the kitchen. Sally followed, but saw that Relena wasn't moving.
She decided to leave her alone ... she knew Relena would be fine ... hell, she might even be the only one of them who could get through to that girl.
But besides that, Sally knew the mother and daughter had a lot of catching up to do.
Miwa ignored her, continuing with her work.
"So ... what are you doing there?" asked Relena.
Miwa didn't answer. But nothing stops Relena.
"... You know your father does the same thing ... he even has his own workshop just like you do."
Miwa still didn't answer, but Relena knew she had gotten her attention.
She had to choose her next words carefully, though.
Oh how she wanted to ask about everything that's happened to her ... everything that she's been through ... and if she even remembered the times when she used to laugh when Relena held her in her arms.
Relena stared at the silent figure before her and wondered if it was the same girl.
"Miwa?"
"Hnn ..."
"Do you ... do you remember me?"
Miwa stopped her work and tried to concentrate her thoughts to the past.
Before the training, and the killing, ... past to what would be the time of her 'innocence'. She couldn't remember, something was blocking her memory ... some sort of promise, some sort of rage, and some-... something...
"I will ... "
Relena perked up, trying to discern what the girl was trying to say.
Miwa concentrated a little more, and the flood of memories came rushing back ... too fast, too much for her to analyze.
"I ... I will ..."
Suddenly a person came into view. She identified it as a stranger ... but a familiar stranger.
"I ...!" Miwa clutched her head.
The others came in, asking what was wrong. They crowded around and Miwa started to feel claustrophobic.
"Back!" she flailed, and they complied.
Relena rushed to help her, but Miwa, in her rage, backhanded Relena in her stomach, sending her to the ground.
Miwa hadn't realized what she'd done. She was still too deep in her thoughts.
The stranger in her head, was from deep within her past. Then another figure came, right beside the stranger.
They were talking, "Yes she will do fine O.."
She felt a wave of heat from her neck. She was angry. She made a promise ...
"I will ... will kill ...!"
She looked at the stranger, whose features focused into the face of Doctor J's.
"... YOU!"
Miwa awoke from her delusion. She found herself standing, and looking down at Relena's surprised features.
An alarm went off in Miwa's head. She knew she must have been speaking outloud and that meant, ...
"Run Relena!" screamed Koko, "She's gonna kill you!"
But it was Miwa who ran away.
Relena stared after her, wondering what-in-the-world Miwa had seen.
Contrary to what the others thought, Relena knew Miwa didn't mean to kill her even though she had said so.
I wonder who she saw ... the mother thought, remembering the cold, distant eyes of her daughter.
The others started to quarrel, looking at Relena and asking if she were all right, and then looking in the direction where Miwa had disappeared.
Their subject then changed to the mysterious object Miwa had been working on.
"I can't make heads or tails of it," said Hilde, moving to pick it up.
"DON'T!!" Koko screamed, grabbing her arm, "she'll kill you!"
"No she won't," Hilde rolled her eyes at the frightened girl.
She looked to Sally to be reassured that Koko was just acting paranoid.
But even Sally gave a look of warning to her.
Hilde backed down and decided to make some room between her and the desk.
Dorothy turned to Sally, "Do you have an idea? You're usually the expert on these things."
Sally examined it carefully, never touching it.
"Its too far finished ... and it looks an original model or a very old model... I don't know, it could be anything from a timer to a miniature bomb ...,"
They all sweatdropped.
" ... but it resembles that of the ... hmmm ..." Sally became lost in her own brainstorm.
"I say we should have the boys take a look at it." Hilde commented.
Relena got up. She slowly proceded to the outside of the 'room'.
"Miss Relena ... ?"
She stood silent, and stiff as stone ... listening for something.
And then,
"HIDE!!"
"WHAT?!"
"Hide quickly! Someone's coming!"
"But Relena!" said Hilde, "... couldn't it be Miwa?!"
"No." stated Miwa from the corner, cocking her gun. she was preparing for the intruder.
They all hushed and listened.
Sure enough, they heard the sound of car engines humming to a stop right outside the warehouse.
"Where'd you get such sensitive ears?" whispered Koko.
But Sally answered instead, quietly, "No doubt Heero taught her that."
Miwa loaded a second gun, equipped with a targeting lazer.
She aimed it at the door.
The rusty steel lock screached horribly, and echoed as whoever was behind the door turned the wheel to unlock it.
Miwa remained calm and focused despite the terrible sound.
The girls were huddled together in a hidden corner, trying to cover their ears and remain quiet at the same time.
Miwa's eyes widened as the door opened, then her pupils contracted against the bright, morning light.
A figure stepped into the shelter ...
