Eyebrow Girl

by Relena Tribal

Act 1

It was a week before Valentine's Day. Highschoolers in a large town were beginning preparations for the huge Valentine's Day dance on Thursday night. These preparations included buying or fixing up or picking out the prettiest red-pink-white gown (for girls) And red-white clothes for the guys, buying or ordering candy, flowers, cards, jewelery, picking out the perfect cologne, planning romantic dates for before/after/or instead of the dance, and let's not forget, finding a date! Our story begins inside the school. The last class before children were released to go home for the weekend.

"Relena..." A teenage girl with honey brown hair and the beautifulest blue eyes turned around to face the boy behind her. "Heero!" The Prussian blues eyes staring back at her from behind moss brown bangs seemed to glow with an emotion Relena had never seen before. Suddenly the bell for the last class rang and the boys eyes looked emotionless again as he turned and headed off to class. Relena turned to her last class and bumped into a friend of hers. "Quatre! What a pleasant suprise...Oh, no! I'm gonna be late!" Relena cried, kneeling to pick up her books. The blond boy quickly scooped up Relena's books that she dropped and then picked up his. "Have you seen Dorothy? I haven't seen her at all today!" He said, sounding worried. "No...I haven't seen her since I saw Duo making faces at her..." Relena answered. "That was first period." Quatre thanked her and took off down the hall.

Quatre entered the classroom and bowed. "Gomen nasi sensei!" He apologized. "I was looking for a friend!" Seeing the worry in Quatre's eyes the teacher said "Don't worry about it, just please take a seat." As Quatre took his seat beside his friends, Trowa and Heero, and behind Duo, the teacher said "Please behave while I take these papers to the office to scan." And he hurried out of the room.

Quatre looked over at Dorothy's empty seat near the back and on the other side of the room. Duo stretched himself accross his desk. Quatre put his hand on the braided boy's shoulder and asked "Duo, what did you say to Dorothy this morning?" "Me? Aw...nothing...I just told her that I'd ask her out if I wasn't already dating someone who didn't have tweezers for eyebrows." Duo answered. "I don't see the big deal, but she turned and ran off crying." Quatre sat back. "Duo...Dorothy is very sensitive about her eyebrows...Why did you say that to her? Do you TRY to hurt people's feelings? I mean...like Relena...she's afraid to wear pink around you for fear you might say something about it!" He said. Heero wacked Duo on the back of the head with his notebook. "Hey!" Duo cried. "I was trying to tell her how pretty she was, except for her eyebrows!" The unibanged boy, Trowa tapped Quatre on his shoulder and pointed out the window.

"Dorothy..." Quatre stood up and walked over to the window. He saw what looked like an angel, platinum blond hair flowing down to her knees, but the red school uniform told no lies. Dorothy was walking in the yard of the school. She dissappeared into the woods in the back yard. Quatre rushed out of the classroom, leaving Heero, Trowa, and Duo both blinking confusidly. He ran out of the school, around the building, and into the woods. As soon as he hit the dark, damp treed setting, he heard crying and hiccupping and sniffling.

Quatre followed the crying until he saw Dorothy, leaning against a tree, hugging it. She saw Quatre looking at her, staring, and shoved her face into the bark of the tree sobbing "Don't look at me! I'm ugly!" "Surely you can't be saying that over what Duo said this morning...can you?" Quatre asked, leaning against a tree in front of Dorothy. Dorothy buried her face deeper "My eyebrows are ugly! Everyone's been telling me this all my life! Even my parents tried to fix them but they grew back worse! Everyone is so mean! They push me and push me and sometimes they throw things at me because I'm such an ugly witch!" "You're not a witch..." Quatre said. "And Duo meant to compliment you today...Besides...I think...."

"I think you're beautiful..."

Dorothy looked up "You lie!" "Dorothy..." Quatre said, leaning towards her. "Would I lie to a friend like you? We've known each other since 3rd grade...I'd think you'd know me better to lie about my feelings..." He said. "Oh really, then why didn't you tell me you thought I was pretty before?" Dorothy asked. "Because...I guess I was shy..." "Shy, embarrassed, or lying?" Dorothy insisted to know. "You were probably just 'shy' because you didn't want to be seen hanging around an ugly woman like me!" Dorothy wiped tears from her cobalt blue eyes. "Besides...I remind Duo of vegitable Lo-Meign..." She sniffled. Quatre laughed.

"Dorothy...that's one of Duo's favorite foods..." Quatre said. "And yea, he was teasing you about your 'chopstick' like eyebrows...Hey Dorothy....where have you been all day?" Quatre asked. "I was...hiding in the girls bathroom..." Dorothy answered. "Ah...no wonder I never thought to look there!" Quatre laughed. "Boy, you had me worried!" "You...were looking for me?" Dorothy asked. Quatre nodded. "Why?" Dorothy wondered.

Quatre took Dorothy's hands in his and asked in the most romantic way "Dorothy Catalina...would you go to the Valentine's Day dance with me next week?" Dorothy pulled her hands from Quatre. "You seriously want to go with me?!" She asked. Quatre answered "Yes" as sincerely as possible, which was very sincere. Dorothy smiled.

"Wow! I guess you ARE serious! Okay!"

Quatre checked his watch then asked Dorothy "So...where were you headed to anyway?" "This is a shortcut home..." Dorothy answered. "Why don't you come back to classes?" Quatre asked. "I think someone owes you an apology..." "Only if..." Dorothy began. "Only if what?" Quatre asked. "Only if you take my hand and drag me back..." Dorothy answered, winking at Quatre. Quatre grinned and took Dorothy's hand in his and walked back to the building saying "I thought by dragging you, you'd be a little bit more resisting..." Dorothy laughed.

Quatre entered the classroom with Dorothy behind him. Dorothy took her seat without saying a word to the teacher. "Ms. Catalina, Mr. Winner...Please see me after class." He said. Dorothy shrunk lower in her seat.

The bell rang 30 minutes or so later. Everyone except Dorothy, Quatre, and the teacher stayed behind in the classroom. The teacher looked at Quatre first. Before he could speak Dorothy explained "It's not Quatre's fault...It's mine...I wasn't feeling good so I hid in the bathroom all day then tried to go home. He was worried about me and brought me back!" The teacher blinked and looked back at Quatre, who said nothing, not wanting to lie, but not wanting Dorothy in trouble. Finally, after thinking it over, Quatre said "Dorothy's been dealing with 'bully problems' and she really was afraid to come to classes today. So I went to look for her because I was worried..."

The teacher told Dorothy and Quatre they'd have to stay after to make up the class time they missed. Quatre didn't need to stay after as long as Dorothy did, but offered to help teachers she stayed after for. Other than that, the teacher also told Dorothy that there was nothing he could do about the 'bully problems' unless she would go to the office to file a complaint. Dorothy decided against it saying "It would only worsen the problem..." "Besides..." Quatre said "Not all of them really mean it."
