Endless Rain

The Autumn wind mixed up the dry leaves on the ground......One more leaf fell down from the
tree.
Relena was sitting on the bench at the park, watching kids playing on the playground.
The warm and happy atmosphere conflicted with the loneliness she felt.......
"This empty feeling in me hasn't changed at all......I keep working and working for peace, but
what I really want is to see him again...."
"Does he ever think about me?" She sighed, "......I've kept this question in my head for
years......I know nothing stays the same..........but how dare he?.......How dare he leave this
memory for me to handle, did he really hate me that much?"
Suddenly a man accidently stepped on her toes while walking by, "Sorry." he appologized.
The voice was very strange but also familiar.
"It's okay.... " She looked up.
"......Heero!?!?!!" She exclaimed.
But a questioning look filled his eyes......telling her he didn't know what she was talking
about.
"Sorry...." He appologized one last time.
"Well he really looks like Heero......or does Heero look like him?.........."
Relena blushed, "I'm sorry, it's just that you looked like my friend Heero Yuy......"
The man nodded, "It's okay Miss Darlian, bye."
Relena watched him walk away.
"........Hey, does everyone know me?......" She wondered, then realized the answer.
"Its not fair, he knew my name but I never gave him mine....In the past I would've said the
famous line 'My name is Relena Darlian, what's yours?'"
She held her head down, idly looking at her shoes, and at the dirt that the person had accidentally
left when he stepped on them.
She looked up towards the receeding figure again, watching his back.
Looking more closely, she noticed that the other people would always walk way around him, giving
him extra space.
"....Just because his clothes are not very clean." The sight made Relena scrunch her eyebrows.
"Why do people always criticize others?"
Then she thought back long ago, ".......for a time I didn't stand up for a person.....
And I didn't ask him his name. Well, come to think of it, the boy I met a long time ago really
resembled Heero. Suddenly she opened her eyes wide like she had missed something......he...he
was the boy that...I didn't....!!!!!!!
Relena stood up and ran in the direction that he had gone.
However, there were too many people on the street pushing her back.....She could only watch the
man's back slowly fade into the huge crowd of people.
She stopped running, breathing hardly.
".......I missed the chance again. I've regretted it for so long."
Suddenly someone tapped her shoulder.
"Relena???? What are you doing here??" It was Hilde and Duo.
"....I....was....he...." She was breathing so hard after the long run that she didn't have the
air to talk clearly. But she pointed into the crowd.
"What did you say???" Duo asked.
Hilde tried to translate the situation, "Well usually if someone is out of breath and pointing
into the crowd....."
"I know! He stole your wallet!!!" Duo answered.
"No....he ..look..like Heero...and he's..." Relena was still out of breath.
"And the thief looks like Heero! Okay I'll go after him!!!" Duo then disappeared........
"Wait!!!!...water...."
"I'll go buy some, stay here Relena!!!" ordered Hilde.
After.......
"You mean he is not a thief!!! UH-oh" Hilde and Relena looked at each other.....
"Please Hilde, stop Duo!"
"Okay I'll go trace Duo, you rest here."
"Thak you Hilde. I'll come later."
Then Hilde ran off very quickly.
Meanwhile.........
Duo was running and searching for the person that stole Relena's wallet.
"Searching with only one person is too slow, I should call somebody and get help!!!"
Duo smiled, taking out his mobile phone. He called the perfect soilder, Heero.
"Hey, Heero!!!"
"What, Duo?"
"A person stole Relena's wallet and he looks like you!!!
"......................."
"Come on Heero, her wallet may have your picture in it!! You don't want her to lose it and
cry, right?? Just come and help. We're at the park!!"
Heero didn't have a clue what was going on but he went anyway.
"Duo!!!! Wait up!!!"
"Hilde! Do you want to help with the thief-catching too?!"
"No, Duo!! He's not a thief!!!"
Duo stopped running, "What?"
"He's an old schoolmate of Relena's who looks like Heero." Hilde explained.
"Oh!! So that's why Relena likes Heero, because her ex looks like him!!!"
Hilde gulped as she looked at someone behind Duo.
Duo sighed, "he's right behind me isn't he?"
Braidboy turned around to face a quite shocked-looking Heero and Relena.
Heero quickly covered his surprise and death-glared Duo, the troublemaker of it all.
"Duo!!! You don't have to say that out loud." Hilde growled.
Relena put her hand on her forehead...............
"No why do I have to see him now when the situation is like this?.............."
But Heero cut the awkward silence, "Vice Foreign Minister and her wallet are safe, Mision
compelete." he started to walk away.
Duo laughed as he realized, "Hey! This is just like one of those movies, you know, with the two
guys in love with the same girl and.....!"
Heero turned back around to stare at Duo angrily.
"Duo, would you be quiet?! He's just a schoolmate of Relena's, not her 'Boyfriend'!" Hilde
corrected.
"But you said that Relena regretted for so long because she didn't talk to him. Did they have
a fight?"
This even makes Heero angrier than before.
"Duo....that's not what I meant, you see...."
"Stop it!!" Relena suddenly yelled.
Everyone did, and looked to Relena apologetically.
Relena blushed at her own statement. She wished she hadn't gotten Heero into this, and feeling
her face flush, she knew she couldn't face him like this.
So she turned and ran away...........
"See Hilde, you made her run away!!! I told you not to inflame her!!"
Both Hilde and Heero used the angry death-glare on Duo......
"I don't know what kind of sick joke you get from it, Duo, but one things for sure..........I'm
going to destroy you!" Heero glared, advancing towards Maxwell.
Duo sweatdropped, "Uh, heh, I think something else needs your attention now.....so come on,
let's chase after Relena!!!"
Duo ran before Heero could protest.
The three of them split up to search for Relena.
Soon Hilde found her in the playground, she was sitting on the swing.
Hilde walked cautiously towards her.
"Relena, I'm sorry, we all know Duo speaks when he shouldn't."
Relena smiled faintly at Hilde.
"No, I'm the one who started this mess. And I shouldn't have run away like that anyway......sorry.
But sometimes, I just want to escape from it all."
Hilde nodded, understanding.
Relena looked up at the chains that held the swing.
She smiled, "You know, when I was little, I always ran outside to my playground and played
on the swing. I always imagined that the swing would carry me into the sky, and let me fly above
the houses.......Its funny....I don't imagine anymore.....my playground has changed into a
podium for my speeches.......I wonder why grownups lose their curiousity?"
Hilde shrugged, "I guess sometimes we gotta let old things go in order to understand new ones."
Relena nodded thoughtfully.
"Relena......the sky is getting darker, see all the kids left. I think it's going
to rain, so why don't I ask Heero to take you home?"
Relena blushed again at his name, "I never ever guessed that I would meet Heero again during
that kind of moment. I feel so embarrassed. Sorry Hilde, but I think I'll just stay
here for a while. I'll come soon, I promise. And then we can have coffee in that new shop by the
corner.........Just let me be alone for some time."
Hilde sighed, "Okay, but don't stay too long, Relena."
Then she left.
Rain....silently fell on the ground and onto Relena's shoulder. She looked up at the sky.
"Who cares if it's raining........I liked rain when I was little...............because if
the weather was too bad, I could come home from school early........Hmm....Strange, even after
going through an entire war, and staring straight into the face of destruction.........I'm still
only remembering the rain."
Suddenly the drops came faster and harder.
Warm tears fell from her eyes, amidst the other cold ones, making her feel even colder........
"it'll be okay after I cry."
"Heero! Relena hasn't come back yet. She said that she would come to meet me in the coffee shop,
but it's been hours, and its already started to rain!" Hilde was talking to Heero on the pay
phone near the coffee shop that Relena had mentioned.
Duo had already gone searching for her.
Hilde hung up the phone after Heero told her that he was on his way.
"Man, where could she be?" Duo went back to the shop to meet with Hilde.
"Duo, did you find her?"
"No, it's so rainy out there, where could she be?" Duo wrung out his soaking wet braid, a puddle
of water came out and formed on the coffee shop floor.
"She can easily catch a cold like this." Hilde passed a cup of hot latte to Duo.
"Did you call Heero?" Duo put his hand around the cup to warm them.
"Yes, he said he'll go find her. But he'll come here to meet us first."
Heero, was holding a umbrella as he ran to the coffee shop. He splashed up water on the street.
His steps suddenly became slower and slower as he saw something in the park.
Moving his view towards the children's playground, he squinted....."is that Relena?....."
He asked himself, stepping closer and closer to the person sitting on the swing......he knew
that at this point he could only watch her from a distance like this. He had been away from her
so long......And he knew that if he ever got closer, it would be harder and more painful to
leave.
He forced himself to stay calm and professional.
But the strange feeling came back into his heart. The same one he got whenever he watched over
Relena. It made him want to run to her, hold her. He didn't know how to describe the feeling,
but it was something his heart understood. Something he feared, something he wanted to see
a psychiatrist for.......something he felt now.
".......It's been two years since the last time we've talked to each other. Sometimes
we were put together because her work needed.....a bodyguard. But we didn't have time to
talk.......and I think that hurt her......I think today hurt her too. The guy who looks like me?
What was that about? And what was that feeling I felt? Why did I get angry over Duo's stupid
comment about her ex-.........what is jealousy?"
Heero shook his rain-soaked head, "A perfect soldier doesn't need emotions.....especially
that one."
He regained his formal posture, to keep his feelings to himself when he faced Relena, so she'd
never know, never guess, his love for her, which he himself doesn't understand.
Relena heard footsteps, and turned to see who it was.
She expected it to be Hilde or Duo, but was shocked to see Heero.
Even in the dark, she recognized his cold, blue eyes, and the death-glare he wore.
For moments, they just stared at each other. Not a single sound was emitted from either of them.
Relena choked, "How many questions I've always wanted to ask him....and now I can't even open my mouth."
Heero held his professional gaze as he searched for the right words.
"I came here to bring her back....there's nothing simpler.....but why can't I even open my
mouth?"
Relena turned her gaze away, "He must be angry that I've run away.....after all......to him
I'm an asset to earth and colonies, nothing more."
Heero gritted his teeth, "How come I'm frozen?!......Why don't I have the courage to even
just walk away?......from my heart.......I...."
"I'm the annoying person, right Heero? I always cause trouble......I'm just a burden of yours."
For minutes they stood silent.....unable to confess......as the endless rain kept falling....
until someone broke the ice.
"Heero....I'm sorry to cause you so much trouble, I know that you hate me, I'm sorry for
keeping everyone late......I'll go back right now."
"He can't like me.....I'm too capricious. Following him around during the war, trying to
get every possible assignment with him, even bodyguard, and then chasing after some stranger
from my past, blowing any chance I had of gaining his respect....or more.....He doesn't want
anything from me. If I don't want to get hurt anymore, I must learn to let go."
"What are you talking about Relena? What do you mean by hating you?" "Is that how she
thinks of me? How can I hate her. I try so hard to protect her and....I......"
The rain became lighter and lighter, and for some time it stopped.
"But I thought you......" Relena was not very sure if she was hearing him right or not.
"I....I want you Relena."
Relena's face flushed red, fortunately it was dark outside. She lifted up her head and stood
up from the swing slowly, waiting for his correction on his choice of words.
"I need you, Relena, to keep the world in peace." Heero saw Relena's reaction and re-thought
how it sounded to her. He blushed a little.
"You mean you don't hate me?" She lowered her head once again. But she sneaked a quick glance
at Heero.
".....Relena...I.." He caught her hand and moved closer to her.
She blushed again as he reached down and kissed her.
"Could this be happening?"
His eyes explained the truth.......the love that resided in the deep blue color of his eyes,
exposed his heart.
And Relena smiled within her own heart.
She never thought anyone could make her feel so warm.
Heero pulled away, but gazed into her nile-blue eyes, as if to ask for her acceptance. Without
words Relena answered, and smiled. He was still holding her hand. He'd have never imagined
touching her delicate skin, and apparently neither had Relena.
Relena's hair and clothes were still as soaking wet as anything else in the park. But the
clouds had long gone, and the clear, starry sky had come out.
The fresh smell of grass, and the clear, cool breeze gave a sense of a new beginning. Everything
changed after the rain.
The streetlights came on as they walked back to the coffee shop.
Though Relena missed the chance to identify the boy, she found a new adventure to her life.
Relena suddenly thought back to Hilde's answer on the swingset,
I guess sometimes we gotta let old things go in order to understand new ones.
She smiled, " I guess sometimes we have to make that decision in the endless rain."
Still holding Heero's hand, they went into the coffee shop. As long as they live, there will
be new episodes entered into Relena and Heero's love story......the endless rain will never stop.

Wa: So do I make everything clear here in the story?? I hope you understand it. These is my
favorite one in all my stories. It was just a thought in the beginning but I wrote it anyway.
When I write a story, it's either a funny one or very serious. Once I start to write some funny
thing, I can't stop myself. Anyway I tried to avoid that in this one. Okay email me if you have
